Giveaway & Interview with Tiffany Reisz

O.M.G. Tiffany Reisz is in the house! So excited for this interview! Interviewing Tiffany was one of the most fun and interesting interviews I've done to date! She is such a cool chick, you really need to check her out. Enjoy the interview and don't forget to leave a comment for her for a chance to win a paperback of The Siren.

Hey Tiff! Thank you so much for being here and taking the time for an interview. Tell us about yourself and how you got started in writing dark erotic romance.
When I was in high school I was obsessed with the tv show Forever Knight. Weird dark Canadian drama about a vampire who became a cop to repay the universe for 600 years of sins. The main character was so heroic…he bored the shit out of me. But he had his ancient vampire master (tall, blond, amoral) and him I loved. So at age fourteen I started writing this bloody, sexually violent, dark drama about the characters. I didn’t even know I was writing fanfiction at the time. That was my first attempt at fiction. Now twenty years later I’m STILL writing bloody, sexually violent dark dramas (with heart and humor) about big blond scary men.

Is there truth behind THE SIREN? A person you may know, relationship experiences, places you’ve been?
Søren, my uber-Dom, is very loosely based on my first Dom who was a six-foot-four blond sadist. Very arrogant and intelligent. Not a priest, however.  A lawyer. Hence the random lawyer jokes I scatter in my stories. A lot of the BDSM scenes are based on personal experience. The plotline of an editor forced to work with a writer he doesn’t want to work with happened at a small press a friend of mine used to work at. And the scenes when Wes, my female lead character’s intern, goes into diabetic ketoacidosis happened to me as well. My ex-boyfriend was a type one diabetic and this happened to us when we were together including me not being able to find him.

THE SIREN isn’t the first book you’ve had published, yet it seems to be getting much more recognition. Why do you think that is?
It’s my first full-length novel. Everything else I’ve released has been cute and short. THE SIREN is anything but cute and short. Well, Wes is pretty damn cute, and Nora is short. But that’s it for similarities.

Where did you come up with the idea for THE SIREN?
I had this idea for a stuffy sexy repressed British guy who needed help getting rid of his guilt for a long ago offense against someone he loved. Who better to help with matters of the heart and the bedroom than an erotic writer? My leading lady Nora is also a Dominatrix so she knows everything about pain, especially how much it hurts to lose the most important relationship you’ve ever had.

I must admit I stalk you on Twitter. I love what you tweet! I have this urge to comment on your every tweet…but I refrain from doing so. Have you always been so outspoken with your thoughts?
STALK AWAY! I’ve always been me is my answer to that question. I think I’ve always said silly shocking things that I didn’t mean to be shocking. I remember there was a day in high school that out of nowhere I told a guy that I had a crush on him. It just came out like vomit. And I wasn’t nervous or anything. I wasn’t even hitting on him. I knew nothing would happen. I just said it. He laughed and said he knew. The world didn’t end. A girl who overheard said, “Wow.” She was so impressed that I just told a guy I liked him entirely without fear or shame. I remember it like yesterday. Happened on a field trip. I guess after that I knew that I could say whatever I wanted and wouldn’t lose any face for it if I said it without shame. I’ve never forgotten that.

I’ve heard the name ‘Mistress Nora’ used in another one of your books. Is it the same Nora in THE SIREN?
All my stories are related. The Eleanor of SEVEN DAY LOAN is the Nora of THE SIREN. There’s only one Mistress Nora.

Why do you think erotic romance is so big right now? By the way, I thought THE SIREN was romantic. I loved it. I saw the happy ending…even if it wasn’t happy for most.
Erotica and erotic romance have been going gangbusters for years. It’s only now because of the 50 Shades phenomenon that it’s become national news. For those of us in the writing community, it’s old news.

What is romance to you?
Romance is my boyfriend Andrew spooning me during our afternoon naps. And romance is a bite mark leftover from a very good evening. And romance is whips and floggers because nothing is more romantic than trust and trust is the foundation of BDSM.

What is something readers wouldn’t know about you?
I hate violence. Seriously. Violent movies or violent tv shows? Hate them. No horror movies. No action movies. Anything more violent or scary than a Batman movie and I’m out. Can’t take it. Supposedly I write books that are edgy and scary. My books are all about consensual sexual practices that everyone involved enjoys. Nothing dark and scary there. Serial killers and slasher flicks? That’s just not my thing.

What project are you currently working on? Can we have a sneak peak, please?
Sure! I’m working on book four in THE ORIGINAL SINNERS series. The shit hits the fan at the end of book three and it’ll take all Mistress Nora’s courage and training to make it out of this alive. THE MISTRESS – this time it’s not a game.

Do you plan your characters and storyline or do they come to you as you write? What happens when you do plan the story but you find it going in a different direction? Do you go in that new direction or stick to your original one?
Good question. I had a great plan for book three in my series – THE PRINCE. I had it all mapped out in my head. It would take a lot of research to pull it off but it would be awesome. Then my deadline for THE PRINCE materialized and I had to write it in two months. Screw the research! I started writing it and suddenly Kingsley took over the book. He was supposed to be the subplot but he became the main plot. You never know until you put pen on paper what will start to come out.

Describe your writing in four words.
I cheated and asked my Twitter friends. Their answers are…

Sexy x4

Devastating, sexy (she could only think of two)

Delicious (that’s just one)

The real deal hollifeld

Sexytimes meets literary goodness.

Sexy. Intelligent. Intimidating. Wrenching.

Lascivious. Lyrical. Imaginative. Humorous.

Candy fantasy stripped bare!

Soul-crushing, soul-freeing, words branded into my heart (she went over her four word limit)

Effortless. Thoughtful. Provocative. Sexy.

My favorite answer from a Twitter friend was, If I only knew. Let’s go with that one.

If YOU were to come with a warning label, what would it say?

Definition of romance...touch. It can just be a glide across the arm, back, butt or it can be a no holds barred grab, especially the butt. Also, you have to have trust and respect. You don't have that love doesn't always prevail.

Romance doesn't have to be grand gestures, just holding hands, cuddling and talking to someone special can be romantic. So looking forward to reading this!

Romance means trust in all things! If you can trust a person 100% everything else comes naturally!

Romance is an emotional attachment between two people with love and friendship and commmitment.

That is actually a hard question. Romance can be something a little as emptying the dishwasher or having dinner ready when he knows you've been swamped at work.
I'm not a flowery person so I find receiving flowers kin to wasting money.

However, I love love when I wake up from sleeping in Saturday to find my favourite coffee store coffee on my night table just waiting for me to wake up. Now that is so romantic to me.

Romance...is flowers and wine and dinner. It's hanging out watching tv. Its kisses and hugs and more passionate times too.
Romance is whatever a couple makes it.

My definition of romance... finding somebody who "clicks". Being completely comfortable with each other 24/7, knowing you can tell each other anything. Embracing the good times and weathering the bad times.

My idea of romance in a book is totally different than it would be in real life. In books I adore grandiose gestures and over the top wooing... in real life, I think romance is in the small things like opening a door, or kisses on the forehead or even just reading to each other.

A romance must have a HEA! Great contest! Thank you so much for the chance to win!

Smut!! I'm just kidding. Probably a HEA at the end of each book. That's the single most important thing. Each book is just different in how they get to that point.
