Jerk of My Dreams #18

Jerk. Asshole. Douchenozzle. Admit it- you hate to love the jerks. That alpha male character who is so arrogant and rude but sexy as hell. That foul mouthed douche bag of a man who rocks your traitorous heart. We've all read them and we've all liked them to some extent. In real life you wouldn't touch the man with a ten foot pole. But in the fictional world? Nothing can stand in the way! Everyone would be lying to themselves if they didn't admit that the meaner the man, the further we run... Towards them! *sigh*

That's what this weekly meme is about- those jerky delicious men! Each Friday this meme will go up, and you can share your jerk anyway you want: review, interview, lines and quotes, giveaway of a book. However you want! All you have to do is sign up HERE and follow the linky. Any time you comment on someones post, leave your link so that person can comment back.

Assets (Balance Sheet #1) by Shannon Dermott

I LOVE a sexy Scottish accent! Kalen Brinner definitely has a sexy Scottish accent! Mmmmmmm……

Bailey Glicks has left her fiancĂ© and run to NYC. She’s starting a new audit with a new team. She’s living with a good friend of hers. She’s starting over.

On New Year’s Eve when she was supposed to be getting married, she’s getting some action at a New Year’s Eve Party, with no-name hot hunky Scottish accent.

Kalen finds Bailey and begins a seduction that is definitely more stalker than anything! But boy is it HOT! The chemistry between Kalen and Bailey burns white hot! Kalen is just flat out HOT! OMG!  His seduction of Bailey is unbelievable.  He surprises her with the most romantic and intimate things, however stalkerish it seemed.

Kalen is a total JERK to Bailey at times. He makes demands of her and is not the most trusting of people toward Bailey. He would send her off without a word and then show up in her apartment later at night, MUCH later, to seduce her. There was plenty of angry sex in this one!

I really enjoyed the seduction of Bailey. Kalen went all out to get her where he wanted her.  I was a bit disturbed by Bailey’s acceptance of some of the things he did. They were definitely stalker material at times and she let it go without question. While on one hand it’s kind of romantic that he went to so much trouble, on the other hand it would have been very stalkerish if he hadn’t been more honorable.

We’re left with a cliffhanger. Things DO NOT end in a Happily Ever After.  Luckily I don’t have to wait long for Liabilities to come out. It’s slated for publication on July 30!

Review: Birthday Wishes by Braxton Cole

Mari meets Luca on an adult website. She’s still smarting from a divorce and only looking to explore her desires. They create wish lists of their sexual fantasies and agree to work through them together. No strings, no attachments, nothing but pleasure, and Mari anticipates their first meeting with impatience. But through a miscommunication involving a private text message and Mari’s nosy brother, Luca ends up at her 30th birthday party, before their planned rendezvous. Much to her surprise, they seem to connect better than she expected, and in ways she hadn’t expected. He’s strong, commanding, but also gentle and respectful and he makes her ache in ways she never thought possible.

But when Luca later expresses a desire for something more than just casual sex, Mari's impulse is to run the other way. After all, her failed marriage is evidence that she really shouldn’t go much deeper. Can Luca convince Mari otherwise? Can he help her see that he's her ultimate birthday wish come true?

Mari was done with dating, after her marriage failed she figures she can live with some no relationship required sex with the guy she meets online.  I can understand where she is coming from, once you get burned you sure as hell don’t want to risk your heart being broken again.  She and Luca have shared their sexual bucket list with each other and plan on scratching off each item together.  Luca, is hotter than Mari ever imagined and when he shows up at her birthday party he begins to fulfill some of those sexual wishes that night.
Holy shit Luca is hot. He can’t wait to start working on both of their wishes.  When it’s his turn I was like holy hot damn boy is not holding back is he?  Mari, I think, needed someone like Luca to show her the way sex with the right person can be more than just sex or positions, but it can be healing both sexually and emotionally as well.
Braxton Cole made me think what would be some of my sexual wishes if I were to make a list, to share with my husband of course, or maybe Channing Tatum if he is ever available.  Birthday Wishes is the first book in the series The List and is a great start to what I hope will be a series that I will want to continue to read more of.

Blog Tour & Giveaway: Every Rose by Lynetta Halat

What do you do when you realize you were foolish enough to throw away true, unconditional love?

Lorraina Dabney turns her back on her creativity and tumultuous upbringing to embark on a college career that will lead her to law school and to becoming what she values most in life—a controlled, powerful, respected woman. When she stumbles upon her childhood friend's artwork, she feels inspired to reconnect with him and her former self.  This onslaught of emotion will send Lorraina into a tale-spin to figure out exactly why she abandoned all that she was, all that she could've been.

Coming from his own chaotic upbringing, Michael falls quickly and deeply in love with Lorraina at a tender age. Even her rejection can't stand in the way of his obsession. When she starts to date other boys, however, Michael finally relents, causing him to spiral further into a world filled with violence, drugs, alcohol, and women. Realizing his lifestyle will only lead to his further estrangement from Lorraina, Michael sets about to turn himself around before going to get his girl.
Michael Bang will have Lorraina questioning everything.

Review:
Michael Bang loved Lorraina Dabney since he was fifteen years old.  Lorraina on the other hand did not realize she loved him back till years later.

The story opens with Lorraina returning to her hometown during a college break.  She runs across a piece of art that she knows can only be the work of Michael.  Something about it awakens memories and emotions in her that she locked away a long time ago.  Finally, she sees the love Michael always had for her and realizes she loves him back.  Now, she’s determined to make things right.

Every Rose is told from Lorraina’s POV.  We get to relive all her memories of Michael with her and make new ones as they meet up again.  They both come from crappy backgrounds.  They both had to make mistakes and gain experiences in life before they could be with each other.  Michael may have loved her from an early age, but that doesn’t mean he deserved her just yet.  He had to get a grasp on his own life and decide on the person he wanted to be.  Likewise, Lorraina had to experience heartache and hurt before she could be open to the kind of love Michael offered.

This story flowed so well and moved along rapidly.  Michael is a reformed bad boy now.  He is sensitive, artistic and so protective and loyal to her; maybe a little too protective at times.  But, overall he’s the perfect guy.  I enjoyed seeing them together as a couple and discover that side of themselves.  But, I have to warn you.  This book packs one heck of an ending I did not see coming.  It ripped my heart to shreds; left a gaping hole in my chest.  I’m still a little in shock as I write this review.  Tread lightly with this one and protect your heart or keep tissues handy when you approach the end.

For as long as she can remember, Lynetta Halat has lived to read and has written countless stories and plays since she was a young girl. A teacher by day and an avid reader and closet writer by night, she has always dreamt of penning books that people could connect with and remember; and her first novel, Every Rose, is the perfect catalyst to launch her into the world of publishing. A self-proclaimed "Coast Girl," she lives in Mississippi with her adorable husband, two amazing sons, and two loveable dogs. She is currently at work on her second book.

EXCERPT:

Michael shakes his head and grins at me. I fight the sudden urge to run my hands through that silky midnight hair of his. “Always so quick to label and categorize.  I guess that’s what will make you an excellent attorney. Assess. Label. Categorize. Add up the W’s. ” He leans in a little and whispers, “How about we just go with the flow? See where it leads us. Label later?” He raises his brows, offering my type-A dominant personality a direct challenge.

Caution to the wind, very atypical for me, I reply, “OK. I’m up for it.” Challenge accepted. “You?” Challenge returned.

“You bet, Lorraina,” he rasps softly.

He leans into my door and places his hands on top of mine. I’m suddenly quite anxious and ever so grateful for the door between us. My hands get clammy and my heart races. Blood races and pounds in my ears, making me feel very much awake now. One hand moves up to brush my hair from my forehead and moves down feather light until his knuckles brush across my cheekbone and lips. He pulls his thumb slowly across my lips. It’s excruciating. It’s exquisite.

Both of his hands come forward to frame my face gently, and he pulls me in for a kiss. A too quick kiss. It’s over before I realize it’s even begun. He gives me a half smile and turns and walks away.

“Michael!” My voice barely sounds human. More animal in nature. It’s raw with ache.

He turns and takes two long strides back to me. This time when he grasps my head it’s anything but gentle. He pulls my lip in and nudges my lips open with his. All rational thought escapes me. I mirror his grasp and enjoy the fullness I feel with him in my mouth. I give as good as I get. This kiss is nothing like our two before. I savor it.

When he turns to walk away, I release a long pent up breath. If he would’ve looked back, he would’ve seen that I was the one on my knees now.

Review: Double Dealing by Linda Cajio

What would you do for love?

Would you give up your job?
Would you give up your ancestral home?
Would you be willing to kidnap someone?

Double Dealing is the story of a crazy-old coot of an uncle who throws two people together. These two people are not only thrown together, they’re at opposite ends of the battle for her ancestral home.

Jed sneaks into the Barkeley estate to try to talk some sense into Merriman Barkeley. Instead he gets Barkeley’s niece, Rae. Uncle Merri deeded the house Rae after he backed out of a real-estate deal with Jed and the company he works for.

Now Jed’s job is on the line and they go toe to toe. So, how does Rae decide to fight? She kidnaps Jed. Once she realizes what a terrible mistake she’s made, she releases him. But Jed has other ideas. He decides to stay kidnapped.

Over the next couple of weeks, Jed and Rae slowly fall in love. The only question is, will they be able to get past the sale of the Barkeley estate?

This was a sweet story about two people who knew each other as children and met again years later. There’s no trauma, no hidden pasts, no angst. It’s a sweet story about two people finding their way to each other.

Review: Strictly Business by Lisa Eugene

Strictly Business by Lisa Eugene is anything BUT Strictly Business!

Nina Henley has dedicated her life to her profession. She’s an ER doctor and damn good one. She up for promotion, she’s dedicated and she cares.

Then she meets Wade Connolly, a medical malpractice lawyer. He comes to the ER one night, needing medical care. There, he meets Nina. Things happen in the ER room that rivals Grey’s Anatomy!

Wade is investigating a case and before he knows it, Nina is involved. He’s attracted to her and he wants to protect her. Nina thinks he’s a womanizer who’s just using him.

I really liked this story. We had some suspense and a bit of mystery. The passion and attraction between Wade and Nina were hot. Nina and Wade are both lovable and come across as real people, not just story book characters. There was some doubt on the part of Nina, justifiably so, but it didn’t overpower the rest of the story.

I do wish we had gotten more of Wade’s inner workings. We got enough to know him but I would have liked a bit more from his standpoint.

At one point in the story I started to think the mystery of the case had been dropped off. Nothing was said about the case for a while, but we did eventually come back around to it. I was surprised at the outcome of the mystery. That was not one I was expecting.

Lisa Eugene is a new author to me, but I will be checking out her next boo Steal My Heart. This time around we have an OR nurse and an Ex-Navy SEAL. We all know I love a man in (or out of) uniform!
