Jerk of My Dreams #1

Jerk. Asshole. Douchenozzle. Admit it- you hate to love the jerks. That alpha male character who is so arrogant and rude but sexy as hell. That foul mouthed douche bag of a man who rocks your traitorous heart. We've all read them and we've all liked them to some extent. In real life you wouldn't touch the man with a ten foot pole. But in the fictional world? Nothing can stand in the way! Everyone would be lying to themselves if they didn't admit that the meaner the man, the further we run... Towards them! *sigh*

That's what this weekly meme is about- those jerky delicious men! Each Friday this meme will go up, and you can share your jerk anyway you want: review, interview, lines and quotes, giveaway of a book. However you want! All you have to do is sign up and follow the linky. Any time you comment on someones post, leave your link so that person can comment back.

I'm not going to start it this week since I want to give people time to sign up, but give you a little inside on how it started...

About a year or so ago, I created a shelf on Goodreads called, Jerk of My Dreams. I don't create many shelves other than the basic genre ones on there, but this one was a must- and it's my favorite.

A lot of my reader friends and friends on Goodreads starting commenting on it and how they love it, which surprised me. I mean, how many people like to read about rude and nasty characters? I thought I was the only one, besides my friend Alyssa, who liked them. Truthfully, this is my favorite kind of character. I can never have enough of them. So after months and months of people saying I need to do more with my jerks, I am.

Giveaway & Review: Lost To You by A. L. Jackson

***If I could give this more than 5 stars I would.***

"Be with me."

Those three simple words...what they did to me is something that I can't even begin to explain.

Lost To You is the prequel to Take This Regret, one of my most favorite reads ever. Even though this is how Christian and Elizabeth came to be, I highly recommend reading Take This Regret first. You'll see why once you do.

With this story, we get two alternating point of views. At first I wasn't sure if I'd like that.

I ended up LOVING it.
It made the story.

"I'd never had that in my life, someone I truly felt comfortable with. Someone who made me feel exposed, and somehow I was still okay with that fact. Someone to share my secrets and my desires and the goals I had in my life with me. The ones people saw weren't always mine, but ambitions created by my parents and the society they expected me to fit into."

Lost To You just solidifies the passion and connection that Christian and Elizabeth had for each other from the beginning. It was always there, but to see where it began made their story that much better. Their hearts are drawn to each other like a magnetic pull...it's really such a beautiful thing to read. Take This Regret really did a number on me, but to read this after, and to know what they went through shows that they were truly meant to be.

"He wanted a redo.
I wanted one, too."

Their friendship, their love, the emotional and physical bond they share is a true test of their love for each other from the start that could never be broken.

I took my sweet time reading this novella as the story is so close to my heart. I'm not exaggerating when I say this, but nearly every word made me emotional; it made me feel. How does A.L. Jackson do it? I'm blown away by her writing. My chest felt like I was restricting the air from flowing the whole time! This was a bittersweet read for me and I hated to see it end.

"An unfound possessiveness rapid-fired from my nerves, spun and wove a web around my heart, and the jealousy I'd felt earlier beat a steady song within the confides of my chest."

A.L. Jackson is one of those very few authors who can do no wrong in my eyes. Her words have such a strong affect on me. *sigh* I love her work.

I will be giving away TAKE THIS REGRET & LOST TO YOU to one person. Please just leave a comment WITH your email address so I can contact you.  I will pick a winner Friday night. Thanks & Good Luck!

Review: Lost to You by A.L. Jackson

Christian Davison was the type of guy Elizabeth Ayers should never get involved with. She knows he will end up adding her to the list of girls he has hooked up with since he arrived in New York City. She is very attracted to him, but recognizes that Christian needs a friend so that is what she is determined to be to him. Just. A. Friend.

Christian instantly knows there is something different about the attraction he feels for Elizabeth. He can’t get her out of his head. He is determined to be friends with her, even though he knows he wants more. They grow closer and closer every day, they are each other’s best friend. But, the attraction between the two is intensifying as well.

What will happen if they finally let each other give in? Will it ruin their friendship? Or, will they be lost to each other?

I was enthralled with this book. I loved seeing how Christian fell in love with Elizabeth, and how he knew almost from the start that there was something different with her. Elizabeth knew to guard herself around Christian, but how can you guard your heart from someone when it knows it’s already been taken?

Lost To You is the prequel to Take This Regret. Take This Regret was the first book I had ever read by A.L. Jackson, and it blew me away. Lost To You is what all we fans have been waiting for, the beginning of Christian and Elizabeth’s relationship, before the hurt and heartbreak. When they finally gave in to the feelings they both shared, I cried. I cried because for those of us who have read Take This Regret, we know what is about to come. In my opinion, I would read Take This Regret first and then read Lost To You, that way you can truly understand why the pain and hurt they suffered was so deep. A. L. Jackson has done it again with Lost To You. Read it, I promise you won’t regret it!

Review: Reaper's Property by Joanna Wylde

Code
Honor
Loyalty

Three words that describe heroes of the modern world. But what if those words also described a man who walked on the wrong side of the law? A man who lived by his own code, his own honor and was loyal to a group of men who were so far over the line of the law, the line was nowhere in site? What if that man made you feel safe, cherished and wanted you all to himself? What then?

Marie’s brother Jeff made a huge mistake. He started working for the Reapers then he stole from them. When they found they went after him with a vengeance. Marie was given a choice, go with Horse and be his or Jeff would die. Marie would have to give everything to Horse, her freedom, her body. All she had to do now was hope Jeff came up with the money to pay them back. Then, maybe, she could go free.

HOLY HOT HELL BATMAN! This is one intense, angst filled, hot romance with some hot sex. Some of that sex is sweet and some of it angry sex, but all of it is HOT HOT HOT!

I felt so bad for Marie. She was stuck with a brother who she loved, but ended up putting her in danger. She paid with her body. While things did turn out well for her, it was not an easy road to haul. I was amazed she stood up to Horse. He was hot but scary. Marie made some difficult choices and stood by those decisions even when it was hard. She did it for her brother.

The romance between Horse and Marie was unconventional at best and torturous at worst. I felt so bad for both them. Marie didn't understand Horse's world and he couldn't....wouldn't do conventional romance for her. But in his own way, he showed her he cared. She just couldn't understand his ways.

Joanna Wylde did an amazing job of showing how life with an outlaw motorcycle gang was not glamorous but it was a choice people made. They weren’t perfect, but they were family and they stood by each other. She showed how hard that life is and how filled with danger it is.

This was my first book by Joanna Wylde and I can’t wait to read more. Holy Hot Hell Batman! Bring on the bad-boys!

Review: Last Call by Alannah Lynne

Callie Holden is the daughter of Holden Enterprises CEO, Max Holden. She has been in love with Gavin McLeod since she was a teenager. She just wants Gavin to notice her and think of her the same way that she does him; however Gavin has no interests romantically or sexually towards Callie. Can Callie come to grips that Gavin will never be hers or will she try to sabotage any relationship Gavin may have?

Gavin McLeod thought he knew which direction his life was taking; he has his career on track as the next CEO of Holden Enterprises and he is financially stable enough to help his Granddad out. That is, until one sexy bartender has him tied in knots when he is sent to check out the bar she works at to possibly use as an inspiration for a future resort. Little does Gavin know his whole world will be turned upside-down when he finds out the true reason for being sent to the Blackout. Will he do his job or will he help Sunny keep her bar?

Sunny Black is more than just a sexy and sassy bartender, she owns the Blackout along with her younger brother. She is immediately attracted to Gavin when he walks into her bar along with three other women who he seems to not even care about. When she finds out Gavin’s real reason for being in her bar she needs to decide if he is really there for her or for her bar. She isn’t going to sell her bar for any reason, even if that means the time she spends with Gavin will be limited.

Gavin seemed to have lost himself in a way and Sunny brought him back to the real him. He had special memories of the town that the Blackout is in; he used to go there with his Granddad when he was a kid. She was the perfect fit for Gavin. I loved how she wasn’t backing down from her “I’m not selling” stance. She wasn’t going to let anyone bully away what she has worked so damn hard for. She wasn’t ashamed about wanting Gavin sexually; hell those two could set some sheets on fire for sure. I think I may have to use some peppermint schnapps in the near future as well (read the book and you will understand what I mean hehe). Gavin doesn’t want to lose Sunny or let Max Holden get his way, he is determined to make Max back off even if it costs him his job.

Callie just seemed like a spoiled rotten princess. Gavin was never mean to her, even though he could have been after some of the stunts she pulled. But, when her eyes are opened to a lot of different situations regarding her father I was proud of her for standing up for herself. She deserves to be happy and I hope in the future we will see a book about Callie.

I am really enjoying how this series is coming to life. While this book and Savin’ Me are not tied together, you briefly see how it will all begin to come together in future books. I definitely recommend adding this series to your TBR piles. I am so anxious to see what the future of this series is and some of the characters are.

A Thank YOU Giveaway!!

HOLY. SMOKES.

The other day I was preparing posts on the blog, and I noticed that I was doing my 500th post....

500!!!! Yeah, how insane is that? I'm shocked by it to be honest. Utterly shocked. It felt like just the other day I was doing my 200th post with author Tarryn Fisher. That post freaked me out. I had just read her book and was insanely obsessed with it. She is the sole reason why I decided to give indie authors a chance in the first place. And because of her, I have found some truly amazing books to love and authors to become friends with. Interviewing Tarryn had me having a total virtual fan girl moment!

Then I was on facebook, where I spend all of my free time, which is nonexistent really, and noticed that I was almost at 2k likes. WHOAAA! When did that happen?

So, I figured a giveaway was in order since I have sooo many awesome followers!!

But first, I have to thank all of my reviewers who have contributed to MSR over the past year. I sure as hell wouldn't have gotten this far if it wasn't for them!! Not only are they a big help with the blog, but I've developed such wonderful friendships with them as well. I adore them so much. I hope one day I can meet each of the girls- Lee Anne, Janna, Nadine, Amanda, Sophie, Alyssa, Crystal, Bridget, Nicoleta, Jovana and Buffy.

I also need to thank the ladies who were there to help me along the way when I first started blogging too, Without them, I wouldn't have never made it this far either. They were there to show me the ropes, take me under their wings and answer all the questions I had- which were a lot. I probably drove them nuts, but I don't care because I made great friendships with them too. Maria @The Queen of All She Reads, Francesca @Under the Covers, Dawn @Guilty Pleasures Book Reviews, Kelly @Books-N-Kisses and Leagh @Romane Book Craze. <3

Most of you don't know this, but I almost gave up blogging this past year. If it wasn't for the Dawn, Maria, Francesca, Leagh and Kelly, I would have stopped. I broke down one day and they were there to talk to me. Again, I have them to thank. xoxox

I recently had my blog revamped. I FREAKING LOVE IT! Tabby @Insightful Minds created it for me. What a Saint that woman is. Bless her heart and the patience she had with me and creating the page. I'm sure she wanted to strangle me by the time it was over. :D

Bloggers. I have met some pretty amazing bloggers along the way and I am so grateful to have. Each one of them is like a piece to the puzzle of my life. I can't believe a because of a book, that I have so many wonderful people in my life now.

Ok, enough witht he sappy shit, let's get down to business!

I'm starting something new here on MSR!! Every two weeks, I will be giving away a book to a review I post here. It can be of any book to any review, but here's the catch- you need to be an active follower. You don't have to post comments everyday, but active enough on the blog. If I start to get a lot of active followers, I will start it every week. :) I'm not sure what to call it though....

I'm also starting a Jerk of My Dreams weekly post. I can't tell you how many people comment about that shelf of mine on Godreads! So I thought a post like this would be fun to do! I think I am starting it on Friday...but here's a look at my picture that my reviewer, Bridget, made.

I know, I know...I'M  DYING TOO.

Ok so for the giveaway. Finally!

There will be 9 winner's. This is a US only giveaway- sorry!

 Giveaway #2

Now, there is one more giveaway. Once I hit 5000 LIKES on facebook, I will give away a signed set of books by Kallypso Masters with bookmarks, pens and trading cards of hers. If you like BDSM romance, then you MUST read Kally's books! Her books do not revolve around sex, there is some hot sex don' t get me wrong, but the series is a plot driven series. The characters and storyline can hold it's own. It's really an amazing set of books. A definite must read.

THANK YOU & Good Luck!!

Review: The Devil's Pawn by Elizabeth Finn

Let me first tell you why I jumped at the chance to read this book immediately after I heard about it…

"Her new manager makes it abundantly clear he doesn’t appreciate her inexperience, innocence, and shyness. On the contrary, he despises everything about her."

Hero despises heroine? SOLD! ...The way the hero treated the heroine in this book may have been a big set-back for some readers out there, but Lord knows I love me some jerk heroes. Heck, I thought for sure I’d be able to file this book under my “favorites” shelf for that reason alone. Tie that in with a shy, virgin heroine and I figured I had just bought the book of my dreams... Unfortunately, it didn't work out that way.

For me, this was basically an amateur version of the books Captive in the Dark and Seduced in the Dark… An incomparable wannabe, if you will. The thing that irritated me the most about this book was the lack of depth…

...That's just a HUGE no-no for me. Now, this entire story was written in the heroine’s point of view, which could explain not only the lack of depth, but the lack of character development as well. I found it extremely hard to connect with the story and the characters involved on any kind of emotional level because the only thoughts and opinions we heard came from the heroine. There were no glimpses into the hero, Derek’s mind. Sure, we may have been able to see a few glimpses of Derek’s soft side behind his hard and cold exterior but aside from how the heroine interpreted everything in regards to him and their relationship, readers just didn’t get the opportunity to see more.

…And don’t even get me started on the amount of sex in this book- Now, I'm no prude but a novel filled with sex on every other page is just completely unnecessary and irritating- Repetition leads to boredom, and sex thrown on every other page eventually starts to feel like a constant filler. Not only that, but it becomes way too unrealistic. While I know it’s not impossible to have an abundant amount of endurance in the bedroom, I do find it a little hard to believe a hero and heroine to have the stamina of an Energizer bunny.

I wish I could say that this story ended on a better note, but instead I was left wanting more. After reading about everything that this couple had to endure to reach their happily-ever-after, everything was just wrapped up nice and pretty entirely too fast. I also found it extremely hard to believe that the hero fell head-over-heels in love with the heroine… Unless that type of thing is possible after only seeming to share one or two conversations. So did The Devil’s Pawn completely dissuade me from wanting to read other books by this author? Not hardly. I've heard great things about some of her other novels, so I won’t disregard those before giving them a chance first. However, I can’t say that my first experience with an Elizabeth Finn book ended up being a pleasant one.

Review: Wallbanger by Alice Clayton

Wallbanger is a funny, laugh out loud romantic read that you won’t want to end.

Caroline Reynolds just moved into her new place. She and Clive, cat extraordinaire, are happily in snooze land when…

“Oh, God.”
Thump.
“Oh, God.”
Thump thump.
“Oh, God, that’s so good!”

Then I heard, for the love of all that’s holy, spanking. You can’t misinterpret the sound of a good spanking, and someone was receiving one next door.

Yep and so our story beings. :) After a few nights of thumping action and little to no sleep, Caroline is close to the breaking point. Having her own big O go into hiding as of late, she is sexually frustrated and very sleep deprived. No more! Deciding to take matters into her own hands, she heads over to confront her obnoxious, wall banging neighbor.

Simon, sex aficionado, Parker is not too happy by his neighbor’s rude interruption. What he does over on his side of the wall is his business. But damn! He does look good wrapped in nothing but a sheet with sweat glistening off his skin and sweet Lord the view only got better as Caroline’s eyes trailed over his body.

He rained kisses down upon my neck, licking and sucking as I moaned like a whore in church.

Who hasn’t thought about having a go with the cute, hunky neighbor, but knew that wasn’t a good idea. That’s Caroline and Simon’s predicament. Turns out they’re both sexually attracted to each other. Not just that, they also come to be friends and enjoy one another’s company. But how do you go from friend to lover? Is it worth risking their friendship?

Did he want to nook me?

Did I want to nook him?
Oh hell with it…
“I’m coming into the nook”

“Well, hello there,” her said, sounding surprised. Then he curled himself around me immediately. I sighed again, wrapped in boy and voodoo.
“What brought this on, friend?”

I was smiling and grinning through most of this book. Their friends added to the mix rounds the whole thing out perfectly. I hope there’s more to this story because I for one was not ready for it to end.

Savin' Me

Kat Owens has moved away from Charlotte NC to accept a position at a small marketing agency, Sinclair Marketing Group or SMG. This is a fresh start for Kat, a chance to earn the VP position that would finally prove to her family that she is doing something with her life, not just floating by like her parents think. While at a party for SMG, Kat runs into Erik Monteague, the one night stand from thirteen months ago that she hasn’t been able to forget or move on from. Kat doesn’t have time to be distracted by Erik, she needs to reach her goal, and unfortunately a man in her life doesn’t fit into that goal at this time.

Erik Monteague, owner of Monteague Boating, is a client of SMG. Erik can’t believe that Kat is in the same room as him after all this time. He is the one who normally walks away, but when she left from their one night together before he woke up, he thought he would never see her again. Erik is a typical playboy, he doesn’t do relationships anymore, not since ten years before when he lost his almost fiancé. There is something about Kat though, something that keeps him wanting more, but his past won’t let him.

The way that Kat and Erik interacted was believable and not forced. You could tell that the passion they shared that single night all those months ago hadn’t died in the tiniest bit, and when they would get together again the passion would ignite, and it did! I loved when Kat didn’t take anyone’s shit, especially from Elise, Kat's nemesis and her message to Erik was hysterical. Kat felt that until she made VP she would never make her family proud, especially her Granddad (which I loved that she called him that because that was what I called my grandpa).

I felt for Erik, the incident that happened ten years before really did serious damage. He had short term affairs, never any form of relationship since that time, and never wanted more until he was with Kat. He tried to keep his feelings from forming into more and when he failed at that, he did the typical guy thing, he pushed Kat away. When his past almost recreates itself with Kat, he finally opens his eyes to see that he needs Kat in his life and that she has helped him heal.

This is the first book in the Heat Wave series, and I really enjoyed it. I am looking forward to the rest of this series. I was able to read this is one afternoon; I can only do that if the book really draws me in, and Savin’ Me drew me in from the start.

*****Savin' Me is currently free until the end of this week!!!******

Cover Reveal: Relentess by Cassia Leo

Release date: March 1st 2013

Claire Nixon is a twenty-year-old college dropout with a secret. To Claire, Adam Parker is just another flirty customer at the cafe, until a chance encounter and seemingly innocent comment spurs a bet between them.

The bet is simple: If Adam can get Claire to reveal the secret that made her drop out of college, she has to re-enroll. If he doesn’t succeed, she gets to keep her secret and he must never step foot in the cafe again. Claire thinks she has this one in the bag. She’s perfected the art of forgetting her past. But she isn’t prepared for Adam’s relentless pursuit or his physical prowess. She's also not prepared for Adam to share his own secrets. And she’s definitely not prepared for her secret to come banging down her door one year later.

Excerpt from Chapter Six
When I arrive at Cora’s house at five minutes past three, I only have to knock once before the lock turns and the door creaks open. Adam is standing before me wearing a soft smile and I know he’s probably been here all day.
“Come on in,” he says, holding the door wide open for me.

I walk inside and Cora is sitting in her recliner in front of the television with Bigfoot in her lap. The apartment is clean and the usual sharp litter box smell is gone. Cora looks up and smiles so big I can see the gap where she’s missing her two back molars.

“Hello, honey. Have you met Adam Parker? He’s your new neighbor,” she says in a voice that makes me feel a little like a preschooler being introduced to a classmate. “I think you two should get to know each other.”
She obviously doesn’t know about our date yet.

Adam takes a seat on the sofa, on the side closest to the recliner, and pats the cushion next to him. “Yeah, come sit down, Claire. Let’s get to know each other.”

I take a seat on the sofa, making sure to put at least a foot of space between Adam and I, then I turn to Cora. “What did you do today? Where’s Tina?”

“Adam’s been taking care of me today. He gave her the day off,” she says, and her eyes crinkle with delight.
I narrow my eyes at him and he grabs Cora’s hand as he turns back to her. “It was my pleasure. I didn’t have anything to do today since the only other person I know in this town was working.”

“You work too much, Claire,” Cora chimes in, as she continues to stroke Bigfoot with her free hand.
Geez. It’s like these two have spent the past six hours rehearsing a routine to get Adam and me together. First he switches my schedule without my knowledge and now he’s using Cora to get on my good side. He is a master conspirator.

I stand up and do a quick check around the kitchen just to satisfy my curiosity. As expected, he did everything I asked. He even stocked her cupboard with plenty of hot cereal packets and her refrigerator with lots of fresh fruit.
“Well, it looks like you’re all taken care of so I’m gonna head home,” I say, as I plant a kiss on Cora’s forehead and rub Bigfoot’s head. “I need to shower and get to bed early. I have the early shift tomorrow.”

“Walk her home, Adam,” she says sweetly and he immediately pops up off the sofa.
“See you later, Cora. We’ll have to watch that movie another time.”

“See you later, sonny,” she says, and I know what’s coming next. “But just because I call you sonny, doesn’t mean you’re bright.”

He laughs and points at her. “I can’t keep up with you, C.”

Adam follows me out of the apartment and uses his own key, which Cora must have given him, to lock her deadbolt.

I take a few steps and turn when I reach my door. “C? Did you spend the whole day with her?”
“I ran a few errands for her, but other than that, yes, I spent the day with Cora. She’s funny and we were about to watch a movie before you interrupted us.”

“Oh, well, don’t let me interrupt your date with Cora. Please go right back in.”

He steps forward and my back hits my front door as I take a step back. He leans against my door with his hands on either side of my head, effectively caging me in.

“Are you jealous of my relationship with Cora?”

His breath is hot against my nose and warmth rushes through me, lighting up my core.
“I just don’t want her to get so used to having you around. She’s had a lot of people bail on her and I….” His face is getting closer with every word I speak. “I don’t want her to get hurt.”

“Are you sure we’re talking about Cora?” he whispers against my lips, lingering for a moment before he pushes away from the door. “I work all week, but I’ll be by your house at nine a.m. on Saturday. Wear a bathing suit under your clothes.”

I let out a deep sigh and scramble into my apartment, slamming the door behind me. I take a few calming breaths then try to ignore the ache pulsating between my legs as I make my way to my bedroom to meditate.
