Out of the Dark by Jennifer Blake

Anne-Marie is the last living child in her family. As a result of the morning she has been in for the last several years, she has become different from the other belles of the ball. At one ball she is introduced to Lucien. Lucien has the reputation of being the Angel of Death as he’s been in many duels and left several of his opponents dead. Lucien becomes fascinated by Anne-Marie and decides to pursue her. Anne-Marie holds him in contempt. Will these two ever get past their differences?

I like Jennifer Blake stories and was excited to get one from free from Amazon! I was not disappointed in this one either. She paints a beautiful picture and creates characters that you love. Her writing is beautiful and the story flows very nicely. Ms. Blake does an outstanding job of building a believable world and creating wonderful characters in a short amount of time.

I held back on giving this one 5 stars for a couple of reasons. One, I like a bit more tension in my stories. I like the thrill of the hunt. Second, the language at the end of the story was a little too flowery for me.

Overall, this is an excellent novella and I encourage anyone who likes a straightforward romance with a Happily Ever After to read it!
