Review: Demon's Caress by Crystal Jordan

The story definitely grabs your attention from the very beginning as we catch up with Maron as she’s on the hunt.  Her former partner was reassigned, because she’d entered into a Triad bond, so now she’s been saddled with two new partners and she struggles to put some distance between herself and them so she’s not tempted to enter into that bond everyone’s hoping they’ll form.  Despite hot sex, she continuously tries to push them away, and it begins to cause problems in the field.

My biggest problem with the story was that I just didn’t quite fully connect to all the details.  Her tragic past was sad, yes, but I still didn’t feel like it matched the level of fear and determination that she used to fight the bonding urge.  I could also tell that there was a deep bond between the characters, but I didn’t feel it as strongly as I knew I should’ve.  I can’t put my finger on why, maybe simply how quick everything happened (it all took place over maybe 24 hours or so).

Despite the slightly shallow connection I personally made to the story, I did still connect to it and enjoy it.  It was a very hot story and the world was neat.  The fact that human’s automatically forget they were ever in the presence of demons is handy and who wouldn’t enjoy being able to shoot fire balls?  Maybe even a little lightning?  I liked the characters, but it was actually a secondary character that was probably my favorite, Samael (Maron’s boss).  For being a big bad upper demon, he likes to play matchmaker and has a sense of humor.  He and the world the author built were my favorite parts, not counting the sweaty sex of course, especially in the elevator!
