Giveaway & Interview with Colleen Hoover!

Today we have Colleen Hoover on My Secret Romance!! Recently Lee Anne read both of Colleen's books SLAMMED AND POINT OF RETREAT. After reading them, she emailed me almost immediately gushing like crazy about how great her books are and asked if she could interview Colleen. I hadn't read them yet but Lee Anne was this passionate over them who am I to say no?

Well, it took me a few weeks to finally pick up the books to read. All I can say is that I.AM.AMAZED. I can see why Lee Anne was the way she was after reading them. I get it because I am too.  If you haven't read the books please please read them! Here is the interview between Lee Anne Colleen. Enjoy!

Thank you so much for agreeing to the interview! I’ve read both Slammed and Point of Retreat. I loved them both. I really liked that each book is from a different POV.

Of the two books, which one was your favorite?
There are things I love about both books, but I really loved writing Point of Retreat.  I loved writing from Will's point of view.  Also, in SLAMMED, Lake and Will didn't get to spend a lot of time together, so it was fun writing scenes between them in Point of Retreat.

Young Adult books are not my typical genre. I like things a bit more steamy in my books than most YA books get. I liked how you didn’t avoid the whole sex issue with these two books. The kissing, petting, etc. was very realistic in both books and got quite steamy even though they didn’t have sex. What made you go that route with these books?
When I first started SLAMMED, I wanted to have an age range in mind when writing the books.  I wanted them to be enjoyed by more than just adults, which is why I didn't push it.  I have a child in junior high and wanted their age group to be able to enjoy the books.  Once I got to Point of Retreat, the subject of sex came up a lot more, but I wanted the same people who read SLAMMED to be able to read the sequel, which is why I kept it clean.  I'm not opposed to writing about sex and am actually looking forward to the book I'm working on now.  It will be considered more of a New Adult novel.

In the books Will is involved in poetry slam. Is this something you’ve done in the past? How did this become part of the story?

This is actually what started the story.  I wanted to read a book about SLAM POETRY, because I always enjoyed watching it on youtube.  I couldn't find a book with a character who slams, so I started making notes about it.

Do you have a sneak peak of Will’s Story you can share with us?
Other than what is on my blog, I can't really share any more.  I'm offering that book to the publisher who took the first two, so they probably want me to quit spilling teasers. ;)

Describe your writing in four words.
Fast.  Simple.  Emotional.  HEA's.
Is there any truth in your books?
The books are all fiction, but I love writing about things that could actually happen.  So while there is no truth for me in the stories, I know there are a lot of people who have been in similar situations throughout the books that can find truth in them.
Being an author, I’m sure you’ve read tons of books. What bores you as a reader? What do you stay away from?
Descriptive writing with a large vocabulary.  I'm one that skims a lot, so I try to keep the reader engaged with a lot of dialogue and very little use of excessive description.  I also am not a fan of detailed character physical descriptions.  What's attractive to some people may not be what is attractive to others, so I like the reader to be able to form the characters to how they would imagine them, not how I imagine them.

Where can we find out more about you and your work?
My blog is pretty much where I lay it all out.  www.colleenhoover.com

What is something readers wouldn’t know about you?
I started dating my husband when I was 16.  I'm 32 now, so last month marked us being together for half of my life.  It's CRAZY!
