Review: Rough Edges by Ashlynn Pearce

To sum it up: Jake Korte is emotionally broken. Angry. Hurt. Worthless. Fearing that he will become the abuser his father was, the last thing he needs is a woman in his life. He feels like a virtual time bomb just waiting for the internal explosion. So when tiny Rebecca Saylor "chats" her way into his life and then crawls under his skin, panic descends. He can't seem to stay away, but is terrified to be with her.

After surviving an abusive marriage, Becca isn't looking for love, only safety. But through her research for her column "Chat Addiction," she meets Jake, who is anything but safe. He's the one man who can make her feel alive again. But can she overcome her own fears to claw her way into the heart of a man so fractured?

I really enjoyed this book- was it a little too short for my taste? Definitely. Did the story seem a little rushed? Without a doubt. But with that being said, it's not a book that I regret reading at all.

I always love tortured/brooding heroes. Always. It's one of the reasons that I loved Jake so much. Aside from the fact that he has a huge tattoo, (*sigh*) he has anger issues and a fierce protective streak. Go ahead and wipe the drool from your mouths ladies! Jake can be his own worst enemy at times- he's moody and tough, and sports that classic "don't mess with me" attitude. But deep down, he's just a lost soul who craves love, but feels unworthy of it.

Becca on the other hand, sees the real Jake. She knows of his troubled past, and can see beneath his tough exterior. She has her own issues to deal with, but her love for Jake never wavered. She never failed to let him know that he was a good person on the inside and out, and was worth all the love she had to give.

I really could have dealt with less sex scenes- it's not something that I find necessary in my romance novels, and it wasn't something that I felt was necessary on every ten pages or so of this book. They just didn't add anything to the emotional development of the story or the characters. The writing style and dialogue felt a tad bit amateur as well, but aside from it's flaws, it was still quite enjoyable- definitely recommendable if you're looking for a quick and easy read :)
