The
Darkest Day is a delectable read. I was completely engrossed in this
book and could not put it down. It’s a debut novel by Britt Bury and
it’s the first in The Immortal Heat series.
Immortals
of varied beings inhabit the Earth now. Humans have been wiped out of
existence or so everyone thinks. Izel Campbell grew up believing she
was an immortal Fionn. She didn’t know why her powers had not kicked in
yet. She travels to her ancestral home of Scotland to get answers from
her grandfather. When Izel arrives she gets a whole lot more than
answers.
Kelvin Kerr has been alive for a
thousand years. He seeks vengeance for the death of his father by the
Campbell clan. He is out to eliminate the Campbell heir who has been
prophesied to have great powers. But he never expected the heir to be a
female.
This
was such an engaging story. It was sexy, dramatic, full of action and
romance. It's got a bit of everything. You've got immortal highlanders
(yum), demons, monsters, Lucifer's daughters!
When
Izel lost the magical enchantment she gained the feel of emotions. For
25 years she's never felt desire, lust, happiness, or anger. It's fun to
see her discover these emotions all towards Kelvin. He protects her
and fights for her. Tries to fight his feelings for her. Ha! The man
doesn't stand a chance. They have some bumps along the way to a happily
ever after. Including a nasty curse Izel's grandfather placed on Kelvin
that just may backfire on him.
I'm seriously excited about this series. Britt
Bury did an amazing job creating this refreshingly, new paranormal
world. Honestly, I'm impressed that this is her first book. I can’t wait for the next one. What a great start.
