Review: Predator's Claim by Rosanna Leo

Each one of the Gemini Island Shifters series just gets better and better. Each one is a bit more intense, more romantic. Maybe it’s because I know the characters from earlier books so I feel a certain connection to them, maybe it’s being more invested in the series, who knows. I just know I like each one a little bit more than the last one.

We’ve watched Bart and Charlotte circle each other in the past stories. It’s about time they finally got it together and got together. We finally find out why Charlotte keeps everyone at arm’s length. It’s a heart-wrenching story. Don’t worry, nothing violent happened to her, she just had heartache early on and it left an impression on her.

We also get to see Bart finally take charge. He’s been surly, grumpy and basically a bear to everyone around him. Everyone at the lodge knows why he’s so surly. They just need to get Bart to realize why.

Everything comes to a head and Bart does what he must. He protects his pack and Charlotte. He would do anything for them. Anything.

I love Bart and Charlotte. I was so glad to get their story. They’ve been avoiding each other and snarking at each other for the longest time. It was wonderful to see them get together. And they were amazingly hot together. Bart is an alpha-wolf all the way around, in the bedroom and out of it. All that alpha-maleness led to an explosive joining of Bart of Charlotte. I thought my kindle was going to burn up.

I’m loving this series. I can’t wait for the next one. I’m really curious which story we’re getting next.

Review: Freakn' Cougar by Eve Langlais

So, this time we’re back with the main family. The snarky family. The family that doesn’t let anything go. They’re freakn’ awesome. This time around we have Stu. He’s being arrested by the lovely Patricia. We met her in an earlier story. Stu is being arrested in order to help figure out who is killing shifters in prison. In order to do that, he’s going undercover with another shifter. They both figure out that Patricia is their mate. So, now Stu has to share his mate with another man. He’s not thrilled.

Patricia is reluctant to believe that she has not only one mate but two. See, she was already mated and lost her mate. Why would fate give her another one or two?

I really liked this story. We have two men who are vying for Patricia’s attention. They’re in prison to figure out who’s killing shifters and they’re trying so hard to seduce a woman who doesn’t want to be seduced.

The added tension of the mystery surrounding the murders enhances the story. Add in the fact they’re seducing her while in prison just makes it that much better. The creativity they came up with to find private places was great.

Oh and the name of the book is perfect. Patricia is older than both Ricky and Stu! She’s a cougar shifter and she’s a cougar! Rawr!

All around this was another homerun by Eve Langlais!

Review: Jungle Freakn' Bride by Eve Langlais

So, I’m totally loving the Freakn’ Shifters series by Eve Langlais. There’s hot alpha shapeshifters, snarky family members and some smokin’ hot sex. What more could you want?

Jungle Freakn’ Bride is another in this series. It’s a bit different from the others in the series. This time around we don’t have anyone from the main family that is usually in the story. This time we have two members of the Moon Ghost Jaguars and a stolen bride.

Now, while I really like Eve Langlais and the Freakn’ Shifter series, this one left me wanting a bit more. I think part of the problem was I pretty much knew what was going to happen because of Human and Freakn’. The two stories are tied together and part of the Jungle Freakn’ Bride was told in the last one.

I also think it lacked a bit for me because I missed the snarkiness of the family members, especially the mother. Since no one was in the story from the main family, we missed out on that.

Now, all this being said I still enjoyed the story. We have two hot alpha male shifters and a very feisty female. It was fun watching Carlie read them the riot act. She didn’t hold anything back! And believe me, they deserved it.

Acat and Chaob are awesome. They’re a mix of old and new. They follow the traditions of their tribe while at the same time, they have a foot in the modern world. It’s a good thing too, because Carlie is definitely a modern girl!

There’s a couple of surprises in this one that bring a new twist to Eve Langlais’s shifter stories.

Can’t wait for Freakn’ Cougar!

Review: Jealous and Freakn' by Eve Langlais

Francine has know Mitchell was her mate since they were kids. Mitchell is in denial.

Then, Alejandro comes along and devises a plan. He’ll be happy to play suitor to Francine in order to make Mitchell jelous. Only now, Alejandro realizes he’s also Francine’s mate. Seems like Mitchell has a little competition.

Eve Langlais manages to write these wonderful stories that draw you in. You’re hooked from the very beginning. This is no exception. I was hooked from the very beginning. We have a wonderful romance, a love triangle and let’s not forget a little threat to Francine to make things interesting.

Mitchell’s family is awesome. We first met them in Delicate Freakn’ Flower. And they continue to bring amusement. At least it’s amusing if they’re not your family. They had such depth and wonderful passion for life to the story. They’ll do anything for each other and quite often do!

The sparks between Francine and Mitchell and Francine and Alejandro are titillating. It’s fun to see what they come up with. The competition between Alejandro and Mitchell however just tear you apart. Francine is suffering because of them. But because she loves them both, she’ll do what she must to keep them both. Mitchell and Alejandro grow into men and make you believe in the power of love.

This is a great series and I can’t wait to read more. I’m especially ready for Mitchell’s brothers to fall victim to their mates!

Review: Predator's Refuge by Rosanna Leo

Gemini Island….A safe haven for shifters. They’re free to be themselves and find their way. Have a little fun.

Anton has come to Gemini Island to start over. He’s royalty but has no plans to claim the throne. In fact, he would rather it all went away.

Marci has worked at Ursa Lodge for years. She’s always been awkward and she’s a late bloomer. She’s finally come into her lynx and she’s been trusted to run the lodge.

The problem? Marci’s lynx is in heat and wants Anton. Anton however won’t give in to Marci. He’s afraid to. He wants her, oh how he wants her, but he won’t do it!

New problem? Someone is attacking the shifters on the island, including Marci.

I love Marci’s lynx! That is one wild cat. She knows what she wants and will do anything to get it. Now she just has to get Anton to agree.

The chemistry between Anton and Marci leapt off the pages. They were so hot together. I found myself wanting to take a 2x4 to Anton! He was so stubborn! What is up with these stubborn men! But, once he gave in, it was HOT HOT HOT!

The mystery of the attacks on the shifters added a layer to the story and gave us some tension. The tension added to the story. It gave Anton the push he needed. The tension of the attacks didn’t over power the story of Marci and Anton, it enhanced it.

I’m loving this series. I’m looking forward to another story from Rosanna Leo. She just needs to write faster!

Review: Bad Kitty by Eliza Gayle

Kity has lost everything.
She lost her father.
She lost her clan.
She’s been banned to the neutral zone.
And if she’s not careful, she’s going to lose her life.

The day Kitty moves to the neutral zone, she gets attacked. In order to save her life, she runs. She runs right into the enemy territory where she’s about to be claimed by the enemy.

Rafe comes across her and decides he has to save her. She’s his mate. The problem? She’s feline and he’s canine. On top of that, their clans don’t really get along. Add into this complication, according to the rules, Rafe’s clan members found her first and have claim to her.

This was a hot little tale. Rafe and Kitty were good together. My biggest problem was Kitty. She was difficult for me to like at times. She could be a real biotch.  Rafe was good with her. He put up with a lot and helped her learn to trust him.

The ending was a bit weird for me. It came a little out of left field for me. However, that ending did set up for future books in this series. I’ll definitely be reading them. This one is a spin off of another series by Eliza Gayle. I have not read that series and it did not prohibit me from enjoying this book. Enough back information is provided that the others are not necessary to this one. However, I intend to go back and read those!

Review and Giveaway: Riptide by Susan Hayes

This was my first selkie shifter story and I was a bit hesitant about it. Most of the shifter stories I read are about races that have dominant traits to them, wolves, bears, cats, etc. Little did I realize that reading about seal-shifters would still give me that dominant male in the story line.  I was very pleasantly surprised by that.

There were some aspects of this story that were unique to me as part of the shifting world. They may be common in selkie stories, but since this was my first one, it was unique to me. I liked these unique features and found it enhanced the story quite nicely.

First, the selkies shed their pelt the first time they shift. This pelt acts as a talisman for the magic needed to shift. The selkies guard their pelts closely since anyone who holds their pelt basically hold them hostage.

This leads me to the second thing I found unique about the selkies in Riptide. They mate in triads, two men and one woman. This is so at least one male mate can be with the woman at all times. They have this instinctual need to protect the woman at all times since legend has it fisherman would capture the pelts of the women and hold them forever as their slave. The men can’t help it. They have to have one of them near her at all times.

I also liked that some of the triads have the men involved with each other and other the men are not involved with each other. It allows for each triad to find their own way and what works for them.

As similar to other shifter stories, there is a blood exchange to complete the bond. This is expected and I’m glad it was included here, it felt right, comfortable. I did find it humorous how Evan, Rory and Jess completed their bond. It was totally caveman and I loved it!

All of the characters in Riptide were lovable. They all had flaws, they all had strengths and they played on each others strengths to fortify themselves and the bond. Rory was definitely the alpha of the group, and rightly so. Evan was the tender touchy feely one but had his alpha moments as well. Then there was Jess. She was the perfect compliment to both Rory and Evan as she was submissive when needed but was by no means a doormat!

The interaction between them hot and it was enhanced by their link. One thing I didn’t like, was the foot fetish the men seemed to have. I had to skip over that part of their lovemaking, but the rest of it was very enjoyable!

There’s not much tension or angst in this story. The most angst or tension we get is Jess not knowing about her heritage and learning to accept a triad. Otherwise it’s a pretty straightforward love story.

I’m looking forward to the next Kismet Cove story. I hope I know who it involved!

Review: Howling Heart by April Bostic

Riley and Paige met 13 years ago when they were young and Paige’s family was on vacation in Black River, Co. Now she’s inherited her father’s cabin there and she’s back to figure out what to do. She runs into Riley again and things take off.

There is such potential in this story and the series. However, it just didn’t happen for me. Some of the concepts April Botic brings into this shape shifting story are unique. First, they are not humans that transform into wolves, they are wolves that appear human. Second, the Beta of the pack is the Alpha’s son. It’s not the person who is best for that position. Third, how they became shape shifters and what allows them to shift was unique as well. There were some other unique items, but I’m going to focus on these three.

Other things about the Pack were similar to other shape shifting stories and it gave a level comfort with the story.

So, what didn’t work for me? Riley was the Beta because of his father. Not because he was best for the position. He would one day be Alpha, but I never got the alpha vibe off him. I felt more like he was a whiny 12 year old pouting because he didn’t get his way.

We also have the fact they are wolves who appear human. Which was pretty neat. However, in the course of the story, Riley asks Paige if she would mate with him in his wolf form. She’s human. Ewww…. I could not handle discussing that. It really bothered me. There is no sex between Riley and Paige when he’s in wolf form but they do discuss it! Also, she’ll give birth to wolf pups, not humans. Ewww….. No, it doesn’t happen in the story but they did discuss it.

Now the why and how they shift was very cool. I liked the story and thought it fit. However, when Riley got hurt I kind of felt like a reason was needed to make things fit together. It felt forced and not natural to the story.

I was really looking forward to this story and had high hopes for it. The concepts were unique and it has promise.

Review: Predator's Kiss by Rosanna Leo

Paranormal romances are so much fun. There is so much you can do with them. You are not bound by the constraints of working with only full human characters. In Predator’s Kiss author Rosanna Leo takes advantage of those allowances and gave readers and amazing bear-shifter stories.

There are not many bear-shifter stories out there. Most shifter stories I’ve found revolve around wolf-shifters and large cat-shifters. One of the fun things about bear-shifter stories is their contradictory nature. They’re usually cantankerous and set in their ways. However, once they find that one person, they’re cuddly and protective!

Ryland is no exception to this! He’s a loner (for the most part), set in his ways, and wants no part of humans. When Lia literally runs into Ryland and his brother (as bears no less), Ryland takes an instant like to her and HE HATES IT! Lia, bless her heart had to deal with being chased by paparazzi, a stalker and finding out about bear-shifters. Talk about a rough day!

Ryland and Lia’s courtship was fun to watch. They were both fighting different things while at the same time wanting each other. Ryland, being the big fuzzy bear he is, set out to protect Lia. When they finally give in to their simmering passion, it becomes white hot. They are so good together and the passion they feel for each other comes across very well.

The added tension of the stalker and paparazzi enhances the story beyond just a romance. I loved the ending. I was on the edge of my seat and was totally unprepared for who it was. I was completely surprised by that one!

I’m looking forward to the next book in this series as we once again have a bear shifter! This time it’s Ryland’s brother, Soren, who was a beautifully antagonistic brother in this story!

Find it on GoodReads!
