Guess the Indie Event!! Day 8

Welcome to the first ever Guess the Indie Event on My Secret Romance! I am super flipping excited for this! I had thought of doing something for Independent authors for some time now, but I kept finding more and more books that would occupy my thoughts for days on end, so….

So I’m hoping that if this goes well and everyone likes it, then I would LOVE to do another one, since there are soooo many amazing Indie’s out there!

Here’s how the game will go:

  • Each day a new post will go up with small snippets, lines or quotes from books by Independent authors.
  • You will have to guess which book the lines/snippets/quotes are from. Your answer will go in the rafflecopter, that way no one can copy each other.
  • Character names have been removed and replaced with XXX. If you look at the photo at the top, it shows which authors books I’m using, so that may help.
  • Every day with each post, I will be giving a kindle book or paperback book away. Some of the books were purchased by me and some were generously donated by the fabulous authors.
  • The goal of this game/event is for readers to find new indie’s to read. And what’s better than that? Sometimes a few lines from a book will seal the deal for me. Maybe it will for you too!
  • But here’s the catch- the giveaway book will not match the snippets of the post that day…because that just defeats the purpose of this game! But it will also open readers to new authors with is what I'm going for here. Maybe you'll win a book from an author you haven't read yet and fall madly in love with it....
  • The contest will run during the week only. A new winner will be picked each day but I will contact all the winners on Saturday. Seriously, I need to keep what little of my sanity I have left.
  • I will be posting this everyday so no one is confused. :)
Yesterday's snippet belonged One Pink Line by Dina Silver!!

Here is one snippet with four quotes:

Snippet-

He groans into his pile of pillows and mumbles, “Keep your mouth right there; I’ll roll over for you.”

Startled, I bolt straight up, but he catches my wrists, pulls me onto the bed and on top of him. If I was hot before, I’m on the dangerous verge of spontaneously combusting right now. I’m sitting with his cock pressed against my bottom and it’s as hard as it was last night. The only difference is that now, he’s not pushing me away. I feel my pulse in my throat, feel my body temperature rise. XXX cradles my face between his hands and guides my face down until it’s a mere inches away from his.

For what seems like an eternity we stay this way—staring into each other’s eyes while I straddle his erection. Does he realize that I’m a hip grind away from breaking my oath? That now that he’s touching me and his fingertips are entwined in my hair and his body is so warm against mine, I can barely function?

I’d be a liar and a coward if I didn’t admit to myself how good he feels.

Quotes-
And just like that, I’m friends with the enemy’s little worker bee.

The only difference is that now, it’s in person and once it’s over I’ll have to face the real XXX XXX and not the poor excuse I keep in my nightstand drawer or my own fingers.

Then he kisses me with a hunger that makes me want to rip both our clothes off right here and now. “God I could write songs about the way you say that.”

“You’d think they give blow jobs with photo shoots,” I say under my breath.

Yesterday's snippet belonged to The Sea of Tranquility by Katja Millay!!!

Here is one snippet with three quotes:

Snippet-

No person who has a decent relationship with both their parents could quite comprehend the disconnect that people like XXX and myself lived with. We’d imagine what our real fathers might be like, but grasping those images was like trying to hold water in a strainer. The task is frustrating, and ultimately the strainer winds up empty.

Quotes-
"You can't very well look your mistake in the eye and say - don't make the same mistake I did."

"We could only imagine what our real fathers might be like, but grasping those images was like trying to hold water in a strainer. The task is frustrating, and ultimately the strainer winds up empty."

"I held the little plastic test stick, which now seemed so technologically un-advanced, that I could hardly believe something so disposable was capable of delivering such life-altering information."

And there you go! Good luck!

Yesterday's snippet belonged to Disastrous by E.L. Montes!!! Read the review HERE.

Today's snippet with three quotes:

 Snippet-
"I hate my left hand. I hate to look at it. I hate it when it stutters and trembles and reminds me that my identity is gone. But I look at it anyway; because it also reminds me that I’m going to find the boy who took everything from me. I’m going to kill the boy who killed me, and when I kill him, I’m going to do it with my left hand."

 Quotes-
"I know at that moment what he's given me and it's not a chair. It's an invitation, a welcome, the knowledge that I am accepted here. He hasn't given me a place to sit. He's given me a place to belong."

" The world should be full of Josh Bennetts. But it's not. I had the only one, and I threw him away."

"If you scrape off the makeup and dress me like a girl as opposed to what I look like now - a profanity-spewing guttersnipe being dragged out of a crack house on cops."

And there you go! Good luck!

Yesterday's snippet belonged to The Proposition by Katie Ashley!!!

Today's post has two snippets and one quote:

Snippet 1-

Yeah, that did it. I think I was beyond my boiling point. In my best impersonation, I mimicked his beach-blonde’s Boston’s accent. “Oh why would you want me, XXXXX, when you can have Boston Barbie!”

Plastic chick didn’t dig my comment. Cocking her head to the side, she put her hands angrily on her hips. “Are you, like, offending me or something?”

Laughing once at her stupidity, I thought about whether I should even answer her. “No, not at all, it’s like a compliment to be called Boston Barbie or something.” I spit sarcastically.

Straightening her position, she smiled. “Oh, okay.” Then she giggled. With my eyes and mouth wide open, I faced XXXXX. “REALLY?” You could’ve done just a tad better XXXXX, seriously!”

Snippet 2-

Biting my lip, I studied him. He hadn’t noticed me. It had been over two weeks, and from this distance he seemed slimmer. His hair was a mess, though an adorable mess. He wore jeans and a navy blue fitted shirt. His hands were folded together on top of the small table. He stared down at them while his leg nervously bounced.

Running his hand through his hair, he began to mumble something then spread his hands as if speaking with someone sitting in front of him. No one was there. Shaking his head, he sank his face into his hands. Both legs were bouncing now.

At that moment, I was going to turn around and walk away, but after rubbing his face, he looked my way. His entire body froze when he laid eyes on me. His lips parted and eyebrows creased. I tried to swallow a few times, but my throat was too dry. He slowly brought his arms down to the table, and his eyes remained locked with mine. Looking down, I broke from his stare. Unhurriedly, I made my way through the glass door and to him.

Quote-

“I’m not perfect, xxx. And our relationship may not be perfect to you, but it is to me. You will never find one couple in this world without problems.” He tossed his hands in the air. “Hell, I bet there’s another man right now on the other side of this planet, standing in the pouring rain, fighting desperately for the woman he loves.”

And there you go!

Friday's book snippet belonged to Undeniable by Madeline Sheehan!!! You can read the review HERE.

Here is your snippet with three quotes. I have not read this book yet, but the feedback it's getting makes me want to read it now!

“It’s just with the type of man you are, you can’t possibly understand my problems or my desires.”

He snorted. “Let me guess. Because of my alleged womanizing reputation, I can’t fathom what it must be like for you to want to be a mother so bad you’d get your gay best friend to knock you up?”

            “That’s not what I meant.”

            “Then tell me.”

She leaned over to where their faces were only inches apart. “Since you think you know everything, tell me if you understand this. Have you ever wanted something so bad you think you’d die if you don’t have it? That the mere thought of it keeps you up at night. You can’t sleep, you can’t eat, you can’t drink. You are so consumed by that desire nothing else matters, and you’re not sure life is worth living if you can’t have it.” Bitter tears stung her eyes, and she bit down on her lip to keep from sobbing right in front of him.

While he remained silent, she shook her head and leaned back in her chair. “See? I rest my case. A man like you can’t possibly understand what wanting a baby feels like for me.”

“No, I get it. I really do.”

She arched her auburn eyebrows at him. “I doubt that seriously.”

“Maybe to a certain extent…” A slow, lascivious grin slunk across his face--one that sent warmth to her cheeks and made her squirm in her chair. “I wanted you so bad at the Christmas party I thought I’d die when you refused to come home with me.”

The husky tone of his voice startled her.  “Excuse me?”

He scooted his chair so close to hers that she fought the urge to back away. She gulped at his nearness. The lustful gleam flashing in his eyes made him like the Big Bad Wolf looming over her. “How much plainer can I make it for you? You were so damn sexy in that green dress. Your hair was down and fell in waves around your shoulders. And you kept giving me those innocent little smiles from across the room.” His breath scorched against her cheek before he whispered into her ear. “I’ve never wanted to fuck someone so much as I wanted to you.”

She shoved him away with all the strength she could muster. “God, you’re such an egotistical bastard! I’m baring my soul to you by talking about wanting a child and you tell me you want to…to…”

He crossed his arms over his chest. “You’re a big girl. Can’t you say fuck?”

“You’re seriously disgusting.” She gripped the edges of her glass and narrowed her eyes at him. “If I didn’t desperately need the rest of my margarita, I’d throw it in your face!”

He chuckled at her outrage. “Now is that anyway to talk to the future father of your child?”

Quotes-

She pursed her lips thoughtfully. “Okay, here’s a really bad analogy for you. XXX is like the Indy 500 of Sex, and I need someone who is more—”
“Bumper cars?”
“I was going to say the slow lane, smartass.”

He kissed her neck while running his hands up and down her back. “Damn, I missed you,” he murmured against her throat.
“Me or the sex?” she asked, repeating her familiar question.
“After all this time, are we still playing that game?” he growled. “You. I fucking missed you, okay?”
She pulled away to grin at him. “Oh, XXX, you’re so romantic. Whisper more sweet words to me!”

She passed a manila folder over to him. “I also had my lawyer draw this up.”
He eyed it before bringing his gaze back to hers. “A contract, huh?” He leaned back in his chair and flipped the folder open. “Is this one of those contracts like in that kinky book where we outline what we’re willing to do or not do during sex? Like our hard limits and safe words?”
She felt a wildfire of embarrassment spreading through her cheeks. “Absolutely not!”
He laughed. “Glad to hear it. Just so you know, I don’t go in for freaky shit like whips and chains.”

Yesterday's book snippet belonged to Take The Regret by A.L. Jackson!!!

Here is today's snippet with two quotes:

We fell onto our bed in a tangle, kissing feverishly, tearing at each others clothing. “Love you,” I breathed, “So, so much.”

He pushed the straps of my dress down my shoulders and spread kisses along my collarbone. His mouth traveled lower, his hands pulling my dress down as he went. I threaded my fingers through his hair, moaning, begging him for more.

Using the tip of his tongue he traced the scar from my c-section.

“Fuckin’ love you, baby,” He rasped.

Then he got to his feet and tugged my underwear off. Lifting my legs, I rubbed my grass stained feet over his bare torso and giggled.

Grinning, he unzipped his jeans. “You want it hard?” He asked gruffly.

I bit my lip and shook my head. “I want it slow, baby.”

“Shhh,” He growled into my mouth. “I got you, I fuckin’ got you. Just let it go baby girl, just fuckin’ let it go.”

“She doesn’t belong to one of my boys, she’s fuckin’ mine.”

And there you go!
Seriously. That book...fucking LOVE it!

Yesterday's snippet went to The Perfect Game! I was surprised by how many knew it! I LOVED that book and that scene very much! Here is a review to the book, in case you haven't read it yet.

Here is today's snippet with three quotes:

“XXX. . . ” she whispered in what sounded adoration. If I could see her face right now, I knew what I’d find. I’d see what was in the expression she’d worn as she had gazed out at me from her kitchen window on Sunday afternoon, the same thing that I had felt in her touch when she’d knelt before me and begged me to look at her, one I’d recognized but had been unable to respond to.
She swallowed, and in her hesitation, I knew she wasn’t ready to say it.

Turning to lie on the cold sheets of my hotel bed, I faced the wall in a way that I was sure would mirror her position, pretended that she held me, felt her ghost her fingers along my jaw, and listened to her breathe. It calmed me, soothed the sting, caressed the pain. "XXX,” I said again, this time softly, matching the calm her distant presence brought, her name a promise on my tongue—soon.

"Did your mom ever talk to you about why I wasn't with you when you were younger?"
She shrugged one shoulder as if it didn't matter at all. "You didn't want me."

"For so long, I’d wanted to hear those words fall from her lips. I’d just had no idea that in those words there would be so much sadness, that they would be tainted by years of her sorrow, and that my own thrill in finally hearing her say them aloud would be tarnished by the immense amount of resentment over what she had done."

"A love as intense as the one we shared, one that had not dimmed through years of betrayal but had only grown, was terrifying. We had the power to destroy, to devastate and ruin, to lay the other to waste. But I wasn’t running."

And there you go!
