Author Spotlight and Review: Endgame by Mia Downing

I FINALLY got the next installment of the Spygames series by Mia Downing. And it did not disappoint! Endgame gives us the story of steely eyed and hard as nails Charlotte. She’s fierce, she cold, and she’s a killer.  She’s sent to protect Jake’s brother Aaron. He’s royally screwed up and now she has to keep him safe. Little does she know, that while she’s on assignment her endgame will be put into motion.

Aaron and Charlotte are a little different from most characters in stories like this. Aaron is definitely not like Jake and Chase. He’s not very confident with the ladies and he doesn’t have much experience with the women. He’s more afraid of them than you can imagine. Charlotte is anything but submissive. She’s dominant and in charge of everything. She keeps a tight control over everything.

As Charlotte and Aaron grow closer, their roles begin to shift. Aaron learns how to take charge and Charlotte learns to let her true nature show through. Charlotte and Aaron find themselves growing closer and closer. The big problem? Charlotte doesn’t expect to survive her endgame.

Now, I’m the first to admit that I like my men dominant and my women submissive. That’s just the way I like my characters. The first part of this book was a bit difficult for me, simply because the roles are reversed. However, it works for these characters. The last half of the book, you really see the growth in Aaron and Charlotte and you see how they connect with each other. They are truly meant for each other and compliment each other in ways you can’t imagine.

Now, at the end of Lethal Limits, I was firmly entrenched in Team Jake’s camp. Chase could take a flying leap off a cliff for all I cared. He’s an ass. I guess being Satan and Lord of the Spies will do that do you. But for all you Chase lovers out there, he redeems himself. I continued to hate through this book, but by the end, I was feeling all warm and mushy toward him.  Pissed me off!

I’m hoping we get more Spy Games books. I do love a good super spy!

Endgame is only available at Amazon

Hi, I’m Mia Downing, and I want to thank Lee Anne for having me today! I’m excited to share a bit of news first—to celebrate the release of Spy Games: Endgame, the publisher has graciously put Trained for Seduction and Lethal Limits on sale for $.99 until end of day Friday, 9/23 at all locations. They’re extending the sale an additional week at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.

When I started writing Trained for Seduction, I had no intention of making it a series. I had an idea for a story, one that began at night while I was laying in bed. You see, my husband snores. Loudly. And seeing I’m fairly low-energy ::cough::lazy::cough:: it seemed like a huge effort to relocate myself to the much colder and more uncomfortable couch. So out of the cold came a really neat story of 62,000 words. My editor loved it and wanted two more books. I scoffed at that—I had no ideas for a series. Jake was a man whore and he’d never settle down. And how could I come up with a third book? It seemed way too much work (remember, I am low-energy.)

Obviously, I came up with a second and third book because book 3, Spy Games: Endgame has been released! Charlotte Smith ends up filling in as Aaron’s bodyguard under the ruse of being his girlfriend. Charlotte is a cold, hard and mean assassin with a score to settle. Aaron is an actor, running from the embarrassment of spiritual failure and his past. Sparks flew when the two met at Jake’s wedding and now both find the smoldering lust to be almost too much to handle. Here’s more juicy tidbits about the characters involved in Endgame

Charlotte Smith: She describes herself as cold, hard and mean, with a second degree black belt and excellent marksmanship skills. She didn’t start out this way. She was a gentle and kind woman from London, living a submissive life with a caring Dominant. And then she made a mistake, which led to a nightmare she later chose to forget rather than remember.
Charlotte appeared in Trained for Seduction as Kate’s nemesis and was later written to a bigger part. I knew in Lethal Limits she was the redhead in the bar with Jake, but knew little else. I had to add in quite a bit to weave her in better. I loved the idea of her being the strongest of the three women on the exterior, but actually the weakest internally because she’s been through so much. She needs a caring and sweet man who will gently demand her love and attention. I think Aaron is perfect for her. She just takes a bit to agree with me.

Aaron James Anderson: the youngest of five strapping Andersons, Aaron learned early that being smart got him farther than being hot. After having his life mapped out for him at age of sixteen, God went and tossed a monkey wrench in his plans, making him scramble for a whole new destiny. He struggles and hides behind the lies and deception of acting until Charlotte is unceremoniously dumped on his doorstep with her gun pulled and spy senses on full power.
After writing two very strong and well-schooled heroes I was ready for a change. Aaron seemed like the perfect candidate given his religious background and quest to become a priest. I wanted a man who could show some growth and become the man he needed to be.

Chase Sanders: I know he’s not Lee Anne’s favorite character and he’s not ashamed of that. He’s the character you love to hate, and in his story, Trained for Seduction, we see firsthand how he struggles between love for his country and the love for his family and friends. I think the end of Endgame sees a tipping point toward the friends!
I love how we see him from a different characters’ point of view in each book. Charlotte used to think Chase walked on water, until the complications of being the boss got in the way. Where she used to blindly and devotedly follow his orders, now she questions them since they seem to be keeping her from her destiny. Aaron gets flack from Chase being the youngest brother of his best friend, but there’s an undercurrent of some other source of dislike as well. Aaron isn’t about to ask, since he would rather deal personally with Satan than his understudy.

Jake Anderson: I’ll save the best for Team Jake to swoon over. I loved having Jake back in this book. He gets to be Jake at his best—in love, learning to cook, wearing disguises, chatting in Russian. He’s full of advice and insight now that he’s a reformed man whore, but he’s also full of secrets and deceit that make Charlotte wonder if she’s smart in trusting her boys explicitly. It made sense to have Jake tag along for this one and I hope you love the role he plays at the end as mediator. He’s not used to doing that at all.

I hope that gives you a little insight to the characters of Endgame and the Spy Games series! Enjoy!

Review: Ripped by Mia Downing

OMG! I LOVED this book. Mia Downing has painted a beautiful picture of two men who grew up together. One is a jock and the other a geek. Now they’re all grown up. The jock is now a lifeguard and elementary school teacher. The geek is still a geek. They love each other and not just as best friends, but will they ever be together. Will they ever tell each other how they feel?

I loved Gavin. He’s been through so much in his life. He’s carries guilt he shouldn’t carry and while he loves hit best friend Erik, he doesn’t feel he deserves that love.

Erik is just as loveworthy to me as Gavin. He’s loved Gavin from afar and since he can’t have Gavin like he wants, he’ll move to California. Let Gavin live here and maybe, Erik will be able to start living his life.

It was amazing to watch Gavin come to terms with what’s happened in his life and realize Erik wasn’t going to leave him. At least he hopes not. Gavin realizes he hasn’t been giving Erik what he needs and plans to try.

I really liked how Mia brought all of this around. None of it was easy for either one of them. They had to fight to bring their feelings to the front and admit them to each other. It wasn’t a walk in the park. I also liked that everything was in baby steps. There were no “OMG you’re right and I’m all better in one word moments”. They had epiphanies and acted on those but it wasn’t easy. Life rarely is.

Male-Male romances are something I’m just getting in to. As I find authors that write amazing M/M stories I’m starting to fall in love with the genre. Mia Downing definitely does that!

Review: Just Ask by Mia Downing

Mia Downing, you owe me another box of Kleenex! I loved this book and I cried so hard. My heart went out to both Jordan and Ryan. They were dealing with so much heartache and found solace in each other. It was wonderful.

Jordan’s half uncle has died and he’s on his way to Bendura to spread his ashes and deal with the island resort he’s been left in the will. Ryan is part owner of the resort and want’s to stop Jordan from selling his half of the resort.

Along the way Jordan finds he’s attracted to Ryan. Jordan decides to go for a boys gone wild weekend and indulge his attraction. But what happens at the end of the weekend? Will Jordan sell? Will he follow his heart and go back to Ryan?

I’ve read a few M/M books but they are not my typical genre. I like girly bits mixed into my stories. That being said, there was something so hot and touching about Jordan and Ryan’s story that I couldn’t put it down! I read until the wee hours of the morning. I had to know how it turned out! Waiting until the next day to find out was NOT ACCEPTABLE!

I also found myself crying as they dealt with their grief. Hearing about Blake and they way he lived his life made it that much harder to hear he wasn’t with us anymore. (yes, I know he’s fictional, but if felt real!)

This is an amazingly emotional story that is hot! I want to visit Bendura to skinny dip in the ocean, lay in the hammock and see what naughty things I can find to do!

Review: Lethal Limit by Mia Downing

I have found a new series to love and it’s Spy Games! Mia Downing has created a wonderful series that keeps me enthralled from the first sentence. I’m so hooked on these characters that I can’t wait for the next one!

Jake is the perfect man-whore. Love ‘em and leave ‘em. Satisfied. He doesn’t go to the same woman twice, then he meets Tia. He stays faithful to Tia even though they’re not exclusive. Unless of course it’s with Kate and Chase.

Kate realizes Jake is in love with her, so she tells him no contact until he’s found his own woman. Jake takes off for a long weekend and takes Tia with him. Let the f**ked up rules begin.

I loved Jake and Tia’s story. Tia is so messed up from her upbringing and she won’t let anyone in. She’s a total masochist, she wants pain because she thinks that’s all she deserves. Jake sets out to prove there are different kinds of pain and some of them are good.

During the long weekend, they fall in love. But Tia doesn’t believe she deserves love, so she runs, just like always.

This was a wonderful story and I loved so many things about it. I love Jake. I’m totally Team Jake and Chase can shove it (for now!). We get more on Kate and Chase in this book (their story is book 1), and it just makes me want to read more about them. Tia is one kickass heroine. She’s scarred, scared, and tough as nails. Jake is so good for her and she is so good for him. He makes her want to be loved and she makes him a better man. A good man.

I really like the ending and how it relates back to the first story. I’m so happy this story tied into the first story. I like the consistency through the series I read. I like them to be intertwined.

I didn’t have as much of an emotional charge out of this book as I did the first one. I think that’s because Tia kept looking for trouble and reasons to run.

I’m very excited about Charlotte’s story being next. There has been so much hinted at regarding her story, that I’m dying to know what happened to her.

For now though: TEAM JAKE!! TEAM JAKE!! TEAM JAKE!! TEAM JAKE!! TEAM JAKE!! TEAM JAKE!! TEAM JAKE!! TEAM JAKE!! TEAM JAKE!! TEAM JAKE!! TEAM JAKE!!

Review: Trained for Seduction by Mia Downing

I have a HUGE Book Hangover! HUGE! I’m still reeling from reading this book and I can’t find another one to read! I desperately want to read the next one in this series, but since it doesn’t publish until November, I’ll have to wait. DAMMIT!

This story had me reeling from the very beginning. Emma is a wonderful heroine. In many ways she’s jaded as she’s had to deal with her psychotic father, and in other ways she’s sweet, innocent and naïve. All that changes when she meets Chase Sanders.

Emma is innocent in dealing with men, having friendships, and interpersonal relationships in general. She’s worldly in learning how to prepare herself to disappear and survive on her own.

Chase is an alpha male who NEEDS to be in control….of everything…..at all times. Emma/Kate destroys that control and takes him for the ride of his life.

Mia does a fantastic job of creating characters that pull at you in so many different ways. Her characters are diverse and have more depth than most I’ve ever seen. I love how she separates Emma from Kate, even though they are the same person, they aren’t. Emma represents all that is innocent and naïve while Kate represents what she’s had to do to survive with the limited options available to her. Chase is much the same way. He’s the boss and is often an asshole to those he care about, all in the name of the mission and protecting the American people. He’s also this wonderful, funny, warm, and witty guy that relaxes when away from the office. He loves Emma and Kate and she loves both sides of Chase.

Chase is placed in an interesting and heart-wrenching predicament when he’s told to prepare Kate to be a seductress and send her in to kill someone. Especially when he finds out she’s not expected to survive. Chase does his duty and seduces Kate and along the way falls in love with her. How can he send her off to die, when he loves her? How can he accomplish the mission and get her out alive?

The dichotomy of the characters was phenomenal! I felt every heart breaking decision they made. I hated Chase with Kate and my heart broke when Chase made her hate him.

At one point I had to stop reading because I was crying so much, I couldn’t read the words. Once I calmed down, I finished the book. I stayed up all night just to finish the book to see if Kate and Chase would get their HEA. I HAD TO KNOW!

There were some definite twists and turns in this plot and it had a unique storyline. I’m eagerly awaiting the next installment of the Spy Games series.

Side Note: The BDSM in this very light.
