Blog Tour: Have I Told You by F.L. Jacob

Warning: There is a rape scene and attempted rape scene in this book.

There are many things I like about Have I Told and there are some thing I didn’t like. It really was a mixed bag for me. So, for this review, I’ll just run through things as they hit me and see where we end up!

The concept of Have I Told You is one that I like. Uber-hot, Uber-rich, young business man takes a liking to a college student. He pursues her, wins her, life goes on. I like this concept. It’s the fairy tale, the white knight whisking the princess off into the sunset for a little HEA. Who wouldn’t like that?

When Caston saw Sabrina dance, he became enthralled with her. So much so, it actually became a bit stalkerish. When Sabrina found out, she was mad at first but then forgave him. Their initial meeting (not at the dance recital, it was actually month later) was very sweet. Caston came to Sabrina’s rescue and whisked her away someplace safe. It was at this point I got a very Fifty Shades of Gray feeling to the book. This feeling continued for a bit then went away. While I had that feeling at the beginning, it disappeared in the middle. Then, toward the end, that feeling came back.

In the beginning Caston was very alpha male and set out to protect Sabrina at any cost. I loved it. Then later in the book, he became co-dependent on Sabrina. The co-dependency came across as whiny to me. I couldn’t see the alpha-male that Caston started out as. He seemed to disappear before my very eyes.

I became very frustrated with Caston as well. He had plenty of opportunity to tell Sabrina about Beverly but he kept putting it off. This is information she needed in order to protect himself and her, yet he kept putting it off. It was very frustrating to me.

My other frustration came in with the dialogue. The conversation themselves worked very well and carried the storyline. However, there was a limited use of contractions and so the dialogue felt very stiff and formal at times. I ended up reading certain conversations over again and inserted in my own contractions to make it flow.

I loved the flip between Sabrina and Caston. It worked very well for this story and was easy to follow. It also added in the extra depth of knowing what was going on with each of them. There were only a couple of places where we back-tracked in time when flipping POVs. However, those few times worked and it didn’t create any redundancy for me.

The steamy scenes between Caston and Sabrina were really good. They were hot and lent themselves to the storyline. My only problem was I felt like they had sex so much, I don’t know when they talked and go to know each other. So, that kind of deterred me a bit.

Now, I’m not real big on F/F scenes. In ménage situations I like for there to be two males and 1 female and straight F/F is not my thing. That being said, there is a scene between Sabrina and another female that is so totally hot! It takes place on a dance floor and OMG! Then later we have a scene with the same female and Sabrina in an airplane along with Caston and another guy. OMG! That was scorching hot. Didn’t matter is was a LOT of F/F interaction, it was HOT!

We’re left with a cliffhanger at the end of this story. I will be reading the next one because I want to see what happens. In spite of my problems with part of the story, I did enjoy the concept and overall storyline. I’m invested in these characters and I want to know what happens!

Author Bio

I am a mommy of two, wife to an amazing man, and full time employee. Life is crazy and my love for reading had fizzled over the years but thanks to a wonderful group of ladies that I met last year I started reading again. Their love for books turned me on to many great writers who I would have never discovered if I hadn't started reading again!

I started writing for them. They brought out my love for writing that I haven’t seen in years. Starting this process was tedious and nerve wrecking, but my lovely ladies and my fabulous husband have inspired me to take my love for writing to the next step.

Review: Heaven's Sinners by Bella Jewel

Everyone has a past.
Everyone has someone they loved and lost.
What if the person you loved and lost is back in your life?
How do you get past the hurt to find that love again?

Ciara and Spike have one of the hardest, most difficult pasts ever. Many years ago they were best friends. They both wanted the other but were too afraid to act on it. Then Ciara’s sister, Cheyenne, decided she wanted Spike. Now, Cheyenne is dead, Spike and Ciara hate each other, and the drama continues.

This story killed me. I cried through nearly the entire thing. Ciara and Spike just kept hurting each other. They couldn’t stop! I wanted to hit them both upside the head. Just when they would start to make progress, one of them would say something stupid and mess it all up again.

I do love how Ciara handled Spike on several occasions. Instead of running, she faced him head on with a smile on her face. It left Spike reeling, not knowing what was going on.

Once Spike and Ciara finally got together it was great. Spike held nothing back and Ciara gave as good as she got. It was intense. The whole story is intense. It’s full of heart-ache, mistakes, forgiveness, and moving forward. It takes a lot of courage and a big heart to be able to forgive someone. To be able to move past the things Ciara and Spike did to each other is phenomenal.

In case you’re wondering why he’s called Spike, you’ll have to read to find out. I guarantee you’ll be left with your mouth hanging open. I know mine was.

Ciara also manages to make friends with one of the guys in Spike’s MC, Muff. He was a great secondary character and I’m really hoping he gets his own story. He was a riot!

Of course we still see Addi and Cade in this one. I love seeing the past couples in series show up again. They’re not just secondary characters that make an appearance, they have a significant role in this story and I like it. I like knowing they were left behind in their own story. I like that they continue to live on in the following stories.

I only have one complaint about this story. The level of cussing went up dramatically. I don’t remember it bothering me in the first one. But this one, it feels like every other word was the f-bomb. Cussing in stories doesn’t usually bother me, but at one point I had to put the book down because it was just too much.

We have what appears to be a resolution to the problem Spike had. We don’t know for certain, just an assumption on the part of the MC Club. We’re left with them working on finding out for certain. No big cliffhanger, just a little uncertainty. We also leave Ciara and Spike with the HEA. Even though they’re big bad bikers, and they’ve done some pretty crappy things in their lives, you still love them. You still want them to have the HEA. They’re completely heartless. In fact, they almost seem….normal.

I’m thrilled to say I have the next one in the series in my hot little hands. I’ve moved on to Knight’s Sinner and I must say, it’s starting off with a bang.

Review: Until November by Aurora Rose Reynolds

Another badass Alpha-Male who meets his match!

Asher is all male. He’s also a man-whore. At least he is until he meets November. November is his downfall. As soon as he meets her, he goes all caveman on her and pursues her with a relentlessness that she’s helpless to resist.

November is new to town. She’s left New York and moved to Tennessee to be with her dad. She’s not used to being around people who love her and she’s been hurt before. To say she’s cautious is an understatement.

When November and Asher meet, sparks fly. There’s hands on hip, chest poking action. November doesn’t roll over and take Asher’s high handed tactics. She stands up to him and reads him the riot act.

When November’s apartment is broken into, Asher moved her in with him. November’s dad agrees with him and so, the relationship between Asher and November is jump started!

I have to admit, I loved this story from the very beginning. Even though November had people in her who loved her growing up, she didn’t let that stop her from enjoying the love her dad’s family was lavishing on her. She opened up and let them in.

I also liked that November didn’t let her past keep her from taking a chance on Asher. She had insecurities but it didn't overtake her personality or her relationship with Asher.

Asher was awesome. Complete caveman, complete with badass alpha-male tendencies. He reassured November when she needed and didn’t hesitate to put her in an Asher fog to get her compliant.

The mystery of the attack on November added a nice little spice to the story. I was a little surprised by the guilty party. Only a little because there were signs, I was just surprised the person went to the lengths they went to.

This is the first book in the series. We’ve already met several people who will be getting their own stories. It’s exciting to meet them and get to know them. I’m looking forward to the next stories.

Excerpt

“You like me distracting you with my mouth.”

“You need to kiss me. All night you slept cuddled into me. You can’t do that to a man without at least kissing him.” His face was close to mine and his eyes were warm. My eyes drop to his mouth. I couldn’t help it, he has a nice mouth.

“Kiss me,” he whispers his mouth brushing mine.

“No,” I whisper back, watching his eyes darken.
“Okay, then. I'm going to kiss you,”
