Review: Execution Style By Lani Lynn Vale

Miller Spurlock might seem like a laid back man on the outside, but piss him off, or violate his trust, and he’ll show you the meaning of pain.

He was a Navy SEAL. He could kill a man a hundred different ways and not break a sweat.

He’s also a police officer and member of the SWAT team, which means he has the knowledge and skills to get away with it.

Rage boils in his gut when he witnesses what happens to the beautiful Mercy Shepherd during a SWAT op from hell that even his worst nightmare couldn't conjure up. And it surprises the hell out of him when she wants him, and him only, to comfort her in the aftermath.

Miller becomes the one shining beacon of light at the bottom of Mercy’s pit of despair.

The one man that could pull her through the rough days ahead and make her whole again.

And during her road back to herself, she realizes that she’s got the one thing she ever wanted in life…a hero to call her own.
I am sitting here trying to find the right words that I want to use in regards to Execution Style.  Normally for this author I end up cutting down my reviews some because I am usually raving about a book of hers.  This time, my issue is that unfortunately this is my least favorite of all of the books of hers I have read and reviewed.  If you have read my reviews in the past I am giving high praise for the story lines that Ms. Vale has written.  So it is really hurting my heart when this time I have to say this one was kind of all over the place and had too many issues for this reviewer to be able to overlook.

I normally hate to give any kind of spoiler away but in this instance I need to let you all know that it starts off with Mercy being raped.  Normally I would put a warning at the beginning but her rape is what takes over the entire book in my opinion and her choices after the matter.  I am a religious person but when reading this one I almost felt at times that religion was being pushed on me.  I didn’t like how Mercy in a way kind of put Miller on the spot about something, it to me made me not like her and she was never able to redeem herself in my eyes.  Miller, I really liked him, he was a really good guy.  Past wall breaking aside, he doesn’t want to pressure Mercy or add to her pain.

With all that being said I will continue to read the rest of this series and Ms. Vale’s books.  I am hoping that this is a onetime thing that I didn’t mesh with the book at all. I hope she goes back to the recipe that worked for so many books in the past; a sexy alpha male, a sassy female, sexy times and just enough drama and action to keep it interesting.

Review: Frisk Me By Lauren Layne

Officer Luc Moretti had no idea that his dive into the East River would have him drowning in a media frenzy. No matter how many times he tells reporters he was just doing his job, they're determined to make him into NYC's newest hero. Coming from a long line of NYPD's finest, Luc knows that being a cop has nothing to do with headlines and viral videos, and he's more than ready to get back to life away from the cameras—until he meets the gorgeous but jaded journalist assigned to film a TV special on him.

Ava Sims may be the only woman in NYC who isn't in love with Officer Moretti. That's why she's going after the real story—to find out about the man behind the badge. Ava's determined to keep things strictly professional, but the more time she spends around Luc, even she has to admit there's something about a man in uniform . . . and she can't wait to get him out of his.

When a cop saves someone’s life, they aren’t doing it for fame or for money.  They are doing it because that is their job but also because they protect people.  When Luc is recorded saving a little girls life, it turns his personal life into a media circus.  He hates all the added attention on himself because deep inside he doesn’t feel like a hero, but for other reasons that will make you want to just grab a hold of him and hold him tight.  Luc was funny, sweet, sexy and overall a really good guy.  I loved his character.  He loves being a cop and is from a family of cops so it’s not just a career for him it is in his blood.

Ava is a journalist with a serious chip on her shoulder, especially when it comes to the cop who wrote her a parking ticket a couple years prior.  In her ambition to get to the top, or wait is it her family’s ambition and not her own, she could end up hurting Luc and herself.  I will be honest for the first 2/3 of the book I hated Ava, there was absolutely no reason for her to act like an entitled bitch towards Luc when she in reality isn’t like that.  She really got on my nerves more than once and I almost set the book down because of her. Slowly she got on my good side, now I still don’t love her but I like her.

Frisk Me did take me a little while to get into, it started off slow for me but once I was in it I wanted more Luc.  It is funny, sweet and makes you stop and think could you hurt the person who may be the one in your heart just to get ahead or to get a position you have been waiting for.  I am looking forward to reading about Luc’s brothers and possibly his partner as well because I have a feeling the cops won’t be the only ones doing the frisking if you know what I mean.

Blog Tour: Bang Switch By Lani Lynn Vale

Lachlan Downy was a lover, not a fighter.

Okay, he wouldn't lie, he was a fighter, too. But nobody had to know that. Especially not Memphis Tennessee Conner and her stuffy attitude when it came to cops and ‘men like him.’

Memphis knew cops. Her daddy was a cop. He was also the president of a motorcycle club. Needless to say, he’s about as alpha as they come, and she’s tired of overbearing men who think they know how to run her life better than she does.

So when Downy comes into her life running his smooth talking mouth, she realizes that she’ll have to stand strong against his pretty words and promises to give her what she needs.

Downy is determined, though.

He’s the hostage negotiator for KPD SWAT, and he’s never met a person, man or woman, he couldn't talk around into his way of thinking.

Although, Memphis is about to show him just how much he miscalculated.

Seems Downy may not be as smooth as he thought, and Memphis is just the girl to show him the error of his ways.
Bang Switch starts off with a bang literally and doesn’t stop the explosions until the very end.  I have come to love this author’s work so much that I just know that if I have been in a book funk that when I see one of her arcs on my kindle that my funk will be over with just the first beginning words.  Bang Switch was no exception.  I love these sexy alpha S.W.A.T. guys and each one gets better and better with each book.

Downy and Memphis have chemistry from the first time he knocks her on her ass.  Memphis knows alpha protective men, her daddy is the President of a MC as well as a cop himself and she doesn’t want any of the headaches that come with a bossy alpha protective asshole male.  Especially one who keeps her awake banging his flavor of the week so hard that walls come crashing down.  Take a moment to reread that last part, it’s okay I will wait.  Did you read it?  Let me just say while it may or may not be Downy who causes said wall crashing, I would once like to be taken that hard that we cause structural destruction.  TMI? Yeah sorry but trust me you will laugh once you not just read that scene but everything that happens before and afterwards.

Unfortunately for Downy stubborn strong willed females are nothing new to him, just take a look at his partner, she doesn’t like to listen either.  Oh did I forget to mention he is also the K9 officer and his partner is a dog?  Whoops well now you know and knowing is half the battle, GO JOE!  Yes I channeled my G.I. Joe references for that one.  Of course he does the typical alpha male asshole move and does something to not just piss Memphis off but could cost her being in his life cause man, big mistake, huge (said in my best Pretty Woman impersonation). You will have to see if his negotiator skills will work on this stubborn female, and let me warn you, you are in for a wild ride that Lani Lynn Vale is known for.

Okay all cartoon and movie references aside, Bang Switch continues to prove to me why Lani Lynn Vale will continue to be a go to author for me; not just for now but in the unforeseeable future as well.  If you are looking for a book that is so funny you will have tears from laughing, an  alpha male trying to tame a sassy stubborn female (both human and canine), a little suspense, a lot of action (both in and out of the bedroom) then add Bang Switch to you must read now lists.

Just thinking about today and how I’d had to reschedule with the contractor was only one such instance when having predictable hours would’ve been more convenient.

Our shoulders bumped as we both stepped over a crack in the uneven walkway, causing her to look at me, and me to look at her.

“Sorry,” I muttered, trying as inconspicuously as I could to move my dick into a better position.

It was getting hard to walk with a semi-stiffy. Especially since I’d been fighting a losing battle with it all day long. I needed a good lay, and by the vibes pouring off of Memphis, I wouldn’t be getting it from her.

Not yet, anyway.

“Shouldn’t your dog be on a leash or something?” She asked suddenly.

I turned around to look for Mocha and laughed when she was nearly fifty yards back from where we were.

“Yes, probably. But she doesn’t like leashes,” I explained.

I could tell she rolled her eyes even though I couldn’t see her face.

“And your dog gets what she wants?” Memphis asked in surprise.

I nodded. “What my girl wants, my girl gets.”

I could practically see her mind whirling as something sat at the tip of her tongue, only waiting to be released.

She wanted to say something, but I could tell she didn’t want to say it. She lost the battle, though. Curiosity winning out over propriety.

“So what about your woman…does she gets what she wants?” Memphis asked suddenly.

I turned to look down at her, studying her facial features before saying, “My woman would get what she needs.”

She looked horrified, and I had to physically stop myself from smiling. She probably wouldn’t find her discomfort as funny as I did.

She looked discombobulated as she said, “I cannot believe you just said that!”

I snorted. “Why is that so hard to believe?”

“What about what she wants?” Memphis exclaimed.

I did lose my battle with laughter at her offended tone.

She crossed her arms, refusing to say anything more.

We turned around and walked the half-mile back to the apartment complex in silence. I could practically feel her anger simmering

Peter was now walking between us, I’m sure put there by an angered Memphis.

Mocha was now in front of us, her eyes scanning our surroundings as she moved.

I held the door open to the apartment complex once we arrived, and she walked inside, not offering me a thank you.

I smiled as she disappeared up the barely lit stairs. I followed closely behind her, making sure she felt me at her back, causing her to move all the faster.

When she came to a stop in the hallway, I reached into my pocket and withdrew the money from earlier.

Leaning in close, I slid my hand around her hip, moving it until my fingers were at the top of her ass so I could put the tip into her back pocket.

Making sure she felt the movement, I pressed my hard body into hers, pressing her against the wall beside her door.

“Here’s your tip,” I said, wiggling the money in her jeans before taking a step away from her.

It was hard. Both the actual act of moving and the state of my dick.

Her eyes were hooded, and I knew I had her. Not all the way…not yet. But I would. Soon.

“Goodnight, Memphis,” I said against the side of her head. My breath rustling her hair.

Then, turning my back to her, I walked slowly away.

When I had the door unlocked once again, I turned back to see her walking woodenly into her apartment.

Right when she got to where she was closing the door, I called her name, “Memphis!”

She stopped and opened the door slightly, poking her head out of the opening to look at me.

“When you’re ready to get what you need, and not what you think you want, come see me,” I said before closing the door to my own apartment.

“Wow, that was deep,” Miller said from the couch.

I flipped him off and walked away, not bothering to conceal the steep rod tenting up the front of my tactical pants.

Apparently, they needed to make a new weapon holder to keep my dick in check.

I had a feeling I’d be needing it for the next couple of weeks before I could convince her to give me a try.

Blog Tour: Double Tap By Lani Lynn Vale

Nico met the love of his life when he was seventeen.

Immediately, he realizes that the gap in their ages is too significant to make a move on her until she’s legal in the eyes of the law. So he joins the United States Navy, killing time until he can come home to her again.

But a tragedy strikes while Georgia is alone and vulnerable, and with no other recourse, Georgia leaves, disappearing without a trace.

After months of searching, he finds her, but quickly realizes that she needs the time to herself to work out her problems on her own.

So he leaves her be, knowing that if she ever felt anything for him, she’d come back home to him.

But it takes her years to return, and in those years, Nico changes, too.

He’s seen too much. Done too much. Lost too much.

He lives his life as a SWAT officer for KPD, goes through the motions of everyday life, but only as half a man. And not even the good half. The US military saw to that.

When the two finally come back together, one question remains. Will she love him as the man he is now, or leave him because he’s not the same man he used to be?
Lani Lynn Vale has done it again and made me love another one of her alpha men, this time it being the sexy, brooding, quiet, make your panties drenched with a single look Nico.  If you can’t tell by my description of him he is one sexy as hell alpha male cop, but there is so much more about him that I NEVER would have expected, and that something not only shocked me but made me love him for who he is even more.  Nico has known from the first time he ever laid his eyes on his little sister’s best friend, Georgia, that she was it for him.  Even though the age difference made it so he had to wait to claim her, it didn’t matter because she was it for him.  When something so heartbreaking has her moving away and not returning for years later, you wonder if he will still feel the same way about Georgia, and that answer is one you will have to read the book to get.

Georgia has a very heartbreaking past, something happens to her that had me shedding tears because it was very hard to read and extremely sad.  Georgia never wanted to leave Nico, but didn’t have much of a choice.  She knew when she returned she would have to face him.  I loved the connection these two share.  Georgia is sassy, strong, hilarious and oh boy can she hold a mean grudge about something and while I may have had him running after I started shooting at his ass for what he did, I will say that I loved Nico’s reaction when a secret she was hiding comes to light.  But let me tell you I wouldn’t want to be around her if she umm goes through that again lol.

In true Lani Lynn Vale form Double Tap is filled with sexy as sin alpha males, sassy strong females, smoking hot sex scenes that will have you catching fire, drama, action, hilarity and most importantly, Double Tap will have you loving this series with each word you read.  I know I am always singing strong praises for this author but please believe me she deserves them.  I know when I read one of her books that I will be laughing my ass off and smiling in the end.  So please, if you haven’t given her a chance, grab one of her books and just sit back and be prepared to laugh and fall in love with these men.

“Hey, this is Nico. I wanted to see if you could come clean my house later this week. I’ve got a bit of a mess going on right now, and you know how I am. Let me know when you can do it. Thanks, bye,” I said to Candice’s voicemail.

I hung up and glared at my still dirty floors.

That was the third time I’d called her in three days.

“At least it wasn’t the thirty fifth like someone I know,” I snarled as I threw down my phone and went outside.

Feeling the need for an exhausting workout, I went outside and gathered up my axe and wedge, then took them to the large pile of wood I’d stacked in a heap at the corner of the house.

A tree had fallen a couple of weeks ago during a storm, and I’d cut it up with my chainsaw, leaving the large chunks to cut up for fire wood at a later date.

I’d been doing it nearly an hour when I heard wheels crunch on the gravel road that led up to my driveway.

I didn’t turn around.

I knew whom it was as soon as I heard the engine whine.

So the little coward had decided to finally show after three fucking days.

Imagine that.

I felt her stare, but I never stopped chopping the wood.

Set the wood up on the stump. Swing back. Strike hard and fast.

Thwack.

I repeated it over and over, waiting on her to say something.

It took her a long time.

Thwack.

I counted thirty five pieces before she finally spoke.

“I’m mad at you,” she said softly.

She was crying.

I hated when she cried.

I didn’t stop, however.

I just kept going, waiting for what she had to say next. The only outward sign that I was listening was the bunch of my shoulders.

“You should’ve told me about her suicide the night she did it,” she said tearfully.

I whirled on her. “Is that right? And how exactly did you expect me to do that? I fucking called you seventeen times that night, and left you at least a fuckin’ million text messages. I know how to take a fucking hint.”

Her eyes widened at the vehemence in my voice, and she took a step away.

I was on a fucking roll, though, and really let her have it.

“All you had to do was be understanding. If you can’t handle this, what makes you think you can handle it when I have to take down a goddamned kid because he pointed a gun at his big sister?” I asked irately.

I walked past her, going inside to the kitchen to grab a drink.

She followed.

I heard her stomping feet behind me as I walked up to the fridge and pulled out a bottle of water, twisting the cap off viciously.

“I don’t like it when you’re right. It makes me mad when I have to admit that I’m wrong. I know I was wrong, but you were wrong, too,” she snarled.

I looked at her incredulously. “You’re so full of shit. You piss me the fuck off.”

She crossed her arms. “Well, maybe if I’m so full of shit, and I piss you off so fuckin’ much, we shouldn’t be together.”

I shook my head at her and gave her a droll look.

“We fight. We yell. You throw shit and I glare at you. That’s just how we are. We don’t have the type of relationship where it’s all hearts and goddamned flowers. We have the type of relationship that’s real. We fight hard, and make up harder. And you need to get over your fucking snit, because I’m so fucking hot for you that I might not be nice when you really need it,” I growled in Georgia’s face.

She tried to push me away from where I was pinning her to the wall, but she didn’t get me far. In fact, it was only the barest of millimeters, and that was only because I didn’t want her to hurt herself when she slammed her wrists against my chest.

“I fucking love you, Georgia. Get the fuck over it,” I yelled.
