Review: Even Vampires Get the Blues (Deadly Angels #6) by Sandra Hill

The fact that vampire angel Harek Sigurdsson was a Norseman in his mortal life doesn't make thawing out after exile in Siberia any easier. But things heat up when his search for evil Lucipires connects him with Camille Dumaine, a human who thrums with sensual energy that can mean only one thing: she's the mate Harek's been seeking for centuries . . .

The SEALs call her "Camo" for her ability to blend into a crowd—yet Harek's intense blue gaze singles Camille out like a white-hot spotlight. The security wiz was hired to help bring down a ruthless band of international kidnappers, but Camille senses an unspoken agenda—besides Harek's bold declaration that she's his "destiny." Just Camille's luck that the sexiest man she's ever met may also be . . . a vampire!

Okay, first of all…Vampires…Angels…Vampires + Angels…Vangels. You with me so far? Vampire angels. This is a paranormal dream! Oh and on top of that, before they were vangels, they were Norsemen. Hot, virile, Viking men. A man’s man. Let me just take a moment to pause and reflect on the beauty of all that…Okay and the moment is up. So, how did they become vangels? Well, let’s just say the men focused on in this series were very naughty in their human lives. Like, committing one of the seven deadly sins kind of naughty. But, thankfully, the Big Man upstairs gave them one shot to repent and devote their energy to the greater good–helping to rid the earth of evil Lucipires and preserve humanity.

Enter Harek Sigurdsson. He had an issue with greed, a hunger for obtaining mass amounts of wealth. Always needing, wanting more. Even now, living in the modern world and serving as a vangel, he still struggles with his addiction. Oh, if Michael, the Archangel and basically his boss, knew what Harek was hiding…or does he? Michael sends Harek on a mission to help a team of Navy SEALs. However, unbeknownst to Harek or Michael, that mission puts Harek on the direct path to meeting his predestined mate.

Camille Dumaine, known as “Camo” to the SEALS, is devoted to her career in the military and serves her country as a WEAL, a sister unit to the SEALs. She is able to slip in undetected, and get the task done. Hence her nickname. Camille is a fierce warrior. She believes in what she does and works her butt off. She comes from a well-to-do family of scholars from New Orleans. Her parents are professors at Tulane and her brother was literally a rocket scientist, now a professor as well. Camille couldn’t have chosen a more opposite path. But, hey, it leads her to Harek.

Chocolate and Roses, that’s the fragrance scented when you put Harek and Camille in a room together. The scent, which only they can smell at first, is the first clue Harek gets to Camille being his mate. As much as he rejects the notion and tries to not give in, he can’t deny the hold Camille has over him. But, there’s this thing about him being a vangel, her being a human, and Michael really won’t be happy to know that another one of his warriors has bitten the love dust. Already this couple has a lot of odds to overcome. Add to it, Camille has been burned badly by love before, so trust is a major issue with her, Harek’s inability to follow the rules, thus keeping him from being on Michael’s good side, AND they need to work together to save a group of girls from terrorists working with Lucipires. All that there should give you an idea of how awesome this book is.

Sandra Hill does a fantastic job blending paranormal romance, suspense, action, and humor. Harek and Camille are extremely likeable characters. The glimpses we get of Michael are witty and funny. I get the sense that sometimes he feels like he’s herding cats, which let’s face it, he’s in charge of a group of vangels, so yeah it’s like that. But underneath the romance and fun is an underlying seriousness. The girls they need to rescue and the work the vangels do is no joke. There are sick minded people in the world and the perfect targets for Lucipires to team up with.

Even Vampires Get the Blues is the sixth book in the Deadly Angels series and one to add to your TBR list.

Review: Crave The Night (Midnight Breed #12) by Lara Adrian

Buying myself a Lara Adrian book is a given. I honestly just automatically set my purchase months ahead whenever it becomes available cause I KNOW I will read anything she writes. I saw the title of this book for the first time around February and thought: This is DEFINETELY one hell of a good story; it sounds like a movie title. A very SEXY and HARDCORE movie. Now, knowing in reality it's a Midnight Breed novel, I immediately realize it's waaaaaayyy beyond a good story. I wasn’t wrong.

It's an EPIC story.

With that being said, Nathan and Jordana have enough fuel to set the whole city of Boston on fire. I dare to say this is one of the best breed couples ever written. It's nearly impossible not to fall in love with both.

So, let’s go back in time a bit, and  if you recall, Nathan is the (genetically created) son of Corinne Bishop, who we met back in Deeper than Midnight, and back then Nathan was a 13 yr old boy, who was born and raised to be a Hunter. Fast forward 20 + years and he now is the second in command of the Boston squad, and very much in charge of his team. Nothing makes him lose focus; he's been extremely well trained, prepared and set to get rid of rogues, and he doesn’t hesitate for a split second to pull the trigger if needed to. This particular mission against a high profile club owner has gotten Nathan’s full attention and it appears to be everything is going according to plan. He’s determined to complete this mission and fight ANYTHING that might get in his way. He’s determined to not let ANYTHING get in his way this time.

Anything, except Jordana Gates.

Nathan has known Jordana for a while since she’s the best friend of Carys Chase (from who I am SURE we will see more in the nearby future). If you also recall, back in Edge of Dawn, they shared a brief encounter that shattered Nathan's self control. That was only the beginning of what would be a high octane love story with enough adrenaline to last you a lifetime. Seriously.

Jordana on the other hand is a very important Breedmate, raised in an upscale Breed environment in the city of Boston. She has an 'almost formal' I would say, relationship, with a high profile Breed male (whom you can tell she doesn’t really love, mind you), she has her dream job, a loving father, everything she’s ever asked for. Her world is calm and delicate, until Nathan appears in her life like a storm lifting her off the ground and swirling her. Their love is nothing less than an avalanche full of emotions and action. Nathan is as lethal as Jordana is pure fire; and what neither one of them knows is that she is the key to a whole new mystery building within the Breed nation (Remember: Mrs. Adrian KNOWS her alphas and Nathan is by far one of the best one’s she’s written about. There is not one thing u cant love about Nathan, not one flaw). Jordana on the other hand will become the key to a hidden world that the Breed must fight against; and their love story will be the beginning of a new mission that only the Order can complete.

Every single chapter in this book will captivate you. Every love scene will melt you a little. Every kiss shared by Nathan and Jordana will increase your heartbeat. Every action scene will drag you into this phenomenal love story only Mrs. Adrian can deliver in such a MAJESTIC way.

Review: Power of the Moon by Tina Carreiro

I enjoy paranormal stories. There’s a lot of leeway that is given to authors when dealing with the supernatural. Things that you can’t do a “normal” story, you can do in a paranormal one. Normally I stick with straight vamps and shifters. I rarely get into stories with ghosts or psychics. For that reason, I was hesitant with the Power of the Moon. However, the description of the book had me intrigued, so I gave it shot. And am I ever GLAD that I did!

I was hooked from the very beginning! The action starts off immediately and you’re drawn into this web of intrigue and murder. It was awesome!

Mia and Cole are both enigmatic characters. I was drawn to them both. They’ve both been hurt. However, Cole is willing to take that chance on Mia. Mia, is scared. She’s been hurt and doesn’t trust her heart with anyone very easily. Add into that, her reality has just been shattered.

I will admit I still don’t know exactly what Mia is. She’s special and has special abilities. But I’m not 100% sure what she is. It was never said outright in the book. It really adds to the mystery for me.

Cole is amazing. He’s also a man, so he’s frustrating at times. There were several times I really wanted to hit him on the head with a 2X4.  He’s had over 100 years to adjust to this reality. Mia’s had 3 days? REALLY? Give the girl a break!

One of the things that was unique about this story was the way Mia held out. She kept the goods under wraps. Now, there was still PLENTY of tension and some really steamy scenes. In fact, I’ll never ride an elevator again without thinking of this book. I’ll also never look at cemeteries the same way again. Oh boy!

We meet some really neat characters in this story. Mia’s mothers is a riot. She’s so open and understanding. She’s exactly what Mia needs. Cole’s co-workers are diverse and bring life and color to the story. I’m really hoping we get to see more of some of them in later books.

Tina’s take on the supernatural mixes some of the old with the new. There are some things that we know about vampires and take as truth. There are also some things that Tina made her own. She put her own spin on the myth. I love getting new perspectives on the paranormal. There are so many possibilities, let them flow!

We’re left with a wonderful ending. Mia finally gives in and faces her fears. In doing so, she gives the love between her and Cole a chance. This is the first in the series and I'm looking forward to the next one. Unfortunately I think I have a few more months to wait!

Review: The Bite Before Xmas by Lynsay Sands and Jeaniene Frost

Let's split this in the two obligated parts that correspond:

The Gift: 3.0 Stars
Home For the Holidays: 4.9 Stars...(if possible)

Lynsay Sands bought my loyalty when she wrote Lucern Argeneau's story "Single White Vampire". For those who DON'T read the RT Book Reviews magazine you may not understand several jokes inside the story, but making a MALE romance novel writer attend the RT Book Lovers Convention is possibly a HUGE task. Inside the convention several things happen and at the end you fall in love with the whole Argeneau clan as much as Lucern falls in love with Kate.

12 books and several short stories later, THE GIFT made me just want to ask for my money back....

I just can't (no matter how much I tried) imagine a 64 year old man lusting after a 25 yr old (LOOKING) woman. Now, granted shes over 2K yrs old, yes, BUT STILL! Picturing old Teddy Bruwnswick, fall in love IN A DAY! (actually less than 48 HOURS with a woman JUST because she convinces him she's her life mate, is one of the most twisted and wack stories I have possibly read. Many will disagree, but don't get me wrong! I love Teddy. He was possibly THE ONLY character that actually SAVED the entire book "The Accidental Vampire" (possibly the worst book in Sands Argeneau series) and made it survive the inevitable drowning as you could actually realize Sands is running out of ideas. But if he has been part of several books and is a well known character by now, don't you agree with me that he at least deserved a BOOK instead of a story? Look at "The Reluctant Vampire" how come "Drina Argenis" and "Harper Stoyan" deserved an entire book (actually well written) and not Teddy??? Maybe my disappointment rounds the idea of unfairness towards some characters we have learned to love...Bitten by Cupid DID justice to Tiny and Mirabeau...but this one....Im sorry Mrs. Sands, you absolutely disappointed me beyond reason...

Cat and Bones...well, I worship Jeanine Frost's hands and brain. Its like Cat & Bones live with her and she has seen every single adventure happen before her eyes. I just LOVE books written in first person. So maybe that's why Cat never disappoints. I just wish it would've been longer. Possibly explain a little bit more, but i think that Bite Before Xmas should be enough for all of us her loyal readers...2 books and one story in a year must be EXHAUSTING! :)
