my upcoming release, CLAIMED, we are introduced to a Dom, Dmitri and his
submissive, Presley. Today I'm going to chat about the relationship between
Presley and Dmitri, and what I enjoyed most about it.
Presley
and Dmitri share something that I think is so important in any relationship,
there is respect between them. I admit that most of this is due to Dmitri and
his personality. He understands that in the BDSM lifestyle, he holds a type of
responsibility to ensure he's giving the submissive exactly what she needs from
him.
Heck,
it's that foundation that CLUB SIN is based upon. Trust, honesty, and respect
are things that are important to Dmitri and it's a necessary requirement to be
a member of CLUB SIN. In the dungeon, Dmitri is exactly what Presley needs in
her life. Yes, he is a Dom, and he does have that alpha side to him, but when
it comes to Presley, he's gentle.
That's
what I loved about writing their story. He understands Presley and instead of
trying to change her immediately and forcefully into the perfect submissive, he
takes the time to mould her. Of course, Dmitri can be a big, scary Dom and can get
tough when he needs to, but he also understands that gaining a woman's
submission is by understanding her.
He
knows that Presley is nervous about her dark desires, which I suspect some
women would relate to. Even if we have fantasies, it doesn't mean some of us
wouldn't be scared out of our minds to act them out, especially if it involved
going to a BDSM club. And because of that, Dmitri takes his time with her. He
doesn't want to frighten her or scare her into submission. He wants to make her
comfortable and accepting of what he has planned for her.
Will
he always be gentle? Not likely! He is a Dom after all. But that's why I loved
writing a Dom like Dmitri. His handling of Presley made room for them to grow
throughout the series, even if we'll only see glimpses of them through the storylines
of other characters.
For
me, Dmitri's moral code made for such a great hero. It wasn't about him. It was
all about Presley and what she needed from him. He taught her with a gentle
hand, but he could--and did--give her a push when she needed it. Right down to
it, he allowed her to grow and discover things for herself.
So,
that's why I loved their relationship. It felt real to me and I could see why
they fell in love. It is based on all the things I think are important in a
relationship, trust and respect. But most of all, I loved that Dmitri earned
the right to be Presley's Dom. He's a man who knows exactly how to handle a
woman in search of erotic fulfillment. His entire focus was on seeing her happy
and confident in her choices. He's patient, kind, and honourable--yeah, that's
hero worthy stuff!
