Zombies and romance!  Who knew they could be sexy hot?  Paige Tyler that's who.  This story was packed with romance, action, sweet loving, suspense and originality.  I really liked this one! 

Drake Parrish is an arrogant playboy who messes with the wrong girl.  His punishment is to be cursed to live the life of the undead; part-time that is.  Once a top dog of Wall Street, now he lives the life of a recluse working from home as a consulting editor.

Simone Kent is a successful romance writer suffering from the dreaded writer's block.  Following the recommendation from a friend, Simone seeks Drake’s help.  From the start there’s a spark between them, although they’ve only been in contact via email.  When Simone learns that he too lives in New York she takes the leap and asks him out on a date.  After some encouragement and pushing from his only friend, Drake accepts. 

It’s been EIGHT years since he’s been in the company of a woman.  The spark that started in the virtual world only ignites in person.  However, his time with Simone is limited when he can go full zombie at any moment.

Dead Sexy was so much fun to read.  I really hated to have to put it down when life’s responsibilities nagged at me.  I’d say Drake learned an excellent lesson during his eight years of abstinence.  Not only did he learn how to treat and appreciate a woman, he damn well learned how to romance one too.  Simone may have found the perfect man.  But, can they have a future when she learns of his part time undead status?  Oh and there’s also this vindictive Voodoo Priestess and her zombie horde that won’t let Drake have any chance of happiness whatsoever.  To protect Simone and have a shot at a future, Drake needs to defeat the Voodoo Priestess once and for all.

Paige Tyler Interview Questions

Hi Paige, thank you so much for stopping by My Secret Romance.  Your new paranormal romance, Dead Sexy was released last month.  This was a fun, sexy read!  I really enjoyed it.  I love paranormal romance and honestly this was my first zombie book.  Who knew they could be hot! So I gotta ask…zombies!  What inspired you to write a zombie romance? 

I’m so glad you to hear you loved it!  Me, too!  People always ask what book that I’ve written is my favorite, which is like asking a mother which child is her favorite, but this book is definitely one of my favorites. 

To answer your question, my hubby actually suggested the idea of a zombie hero. I looked at him like he was crazy. Zombies aren’t the heroes of any story (except in Warm Bodies, of course). I mean, how can they be, right? They’re downright unattractive, not to mention scary. What woman in her right mind would fall in love with a dead guy? No way could that work.

“The hero doesn’t have to be a zombie all the time,” he told me. “Think outside the box here.”

Okay. I can be open-minded.

In hubby’s out-of-the-box world, the hunky hero got cursed by an evil Voodoo priestess and only turns into a zombie sometimes. “And when he does go zombie, he doesn’t have to be like the kind in the movies,” my hubby added. “Well, he has to look like one, you know all dead and stuff, but he doesn’t have to be a mindless creature or attack humans or eat anything gross.”

So, brains are completely out, thanks goodness!

“And when he's not a zombie, he can be a hunk.  Think Jensen Ackles or Jared Padalecki.”

(Yes, my hubby knows I’ve got a thing for the Supernatural hunks!)

So, I ran with the idea and ended up with a full-length novel I think is one of the best I’ve written yet. It finaled in the EPIC Awards and got glowing reviews, including the Gold Star Award from JERR. I was thrilled and hubby walked around for a week with an “I-told-you-so” look on his face. LOL!

You have some dark voodoo magic happening in your book.  What kind of research, if any, did you do?  Was there anything that was most personally interesting to you?

I definitely couldn’t write a book about Voodoo without doing research. And anyone who knows me, knows I absolutely love doing research. Which can be both good and bad, especially when I realize I just spent two hours on Google going from one website to the next and haven’t done a lick of writing! And since there are so many good websites out there on the subject of Voodoo, you guessed it—I did just that!

You’ll be able to see the research I did in a few places in DEAD SEXY, most notably when the evil Voodoo priestess curses the hero, when he later visits a Voodoo shop in Brooklyn, in the scene where the good Voodoo priestess uses her magic to help Drake, and finally during the action-packed, emotional finale that Whipped Cream Reviews says, “…will leave you blown away!”

If you gave one of your characters an opportunity to speak for themselves, what would they say?

Drake would say either "Show a zombie some love!" or "Don't hate me because I'm a zombie!"

What was your favorite chapter to write and why?

My favorite chapter in DEAD SEXY? Let me think. Probably the chapter where the heroine discovers the hero is a zombie. I won’t say too much about what happens because I don’t want to give too much away, but the depth of their emotions and the aftermath really tugs at the heartstrings.

What is your next project? 

I just finished the second book in my X-OPS Series for Sourcebooks. It’s a military/paranormal shifter romance series about covert operatives working for a secret department within the Department of Homeland Security.  The first book is called Her Perfect Mate, and it comes out May 2014. The hero is a hunky Army Special Forces soldier and the heroine is a kickbutt feline shifter. It’s hot, it’s sexy, it’s romantic, and I think readers are going to love it. I’m so excited! Can’t wait!

I’m also working on a new shifter series featuring a pack of very hunky werewolves and the women who can’t help but fall for them.

Can you leave us with a favorite quote or teaser from your book?

Simone (the heroine) to Drake: “So, is this as zombified as you get?”
