Sale Blitz: A Life Less Broken By: Margaret McHeyzer

On a day like any other, Allyn Sommers went off to work, not knowing that her life was about to be irrevocably and horrifically altered.

Three years later, Allyn is still a prisoner in her own home held captive by harrowing fear. Broken and damaged, Allyn seeks help from someone that fate brought her.

Dr. Dominic Shriver is a psychiatrist who’s drawn to difficult cases. He must push past his own personal battles to help Allyn fight her monsters and nightmares.

Is Dr. Shriver the answer to her healing?

Can Allyn overcome the broken?

Contains distressing content. Only suitable for 18+. Standalone.

A Life Less Broken is an extremely hard book emotionally to read.  This is not a book to read if you have any type of rape trigger, please if this is a topic that you know that you don’t like to read about then skip this one.  Just please take what I just wrote to heart.

God, what do I even say about this book?  From the start you know how horribly that Allyn suffered at the hands of her attackers.  I had tears in my eyes when I read what happened to her and then when you see how she hasn’t been able to cope just makes it all so much harder.  I had to step away from this book multiple times because of what I was reading.

When she meets Dominic, her new doctor you start to see that maybe, just maybe she can begin to live again. Slowly ever so slowly Allyn begins to battle the fears that have caused her life to just be at a standstill since her attack.  Feelings between the two begin to move past doctor/patient and that is when I started to not like the book as much.  It’s not because of their relationship but because it went from doctor treating patient to bam something else without a second thought to what would be at risk for him.

Then all of a sudden thing just go from bad to worse for Allyn, I won’t say what it is because I don’t want to give anything away but for me, that would have been my oh hell no breaking point.  It almost became over the top with the drama surrounding the truth.

I liked A Life Less Broken but I can’t say that I loved it.  I love dark reads, rape in a book is not an issue for me, but this one just didn’t sit right with me for some reason.  I have had 50/50 luck with this author so maybe it is a case of we just don’t mesh well together or maybe it was the book itself but if you take anything from this review, please keep the warning I posted at the beginning of my review in mind if you do give it a chance.  This is one read that will stay with me for a while and not in a good way but one that will make me wish that nothing like this ever happens to any woman, ever.

**Bound by custom or unique by choice.**

There's something about the written word that's pure magic.

Possibly it's the fact that there are 26 letters in the English alphabet, and they can create something so beautiful or so empowering that they're able to change our lives.

How important is it that we break suit and stretch our minds?

I like to think of myself as 'unique'. My stories aren't for everyone, and sometimes I may push what you believe to be 'normal'.

Normal is subjective.

I prefer to be known as a person who's never been 'bound by custom' but is 'unique by choice'.

Until next time

Review: Perfectly Broken by Prescott Lane

Peyton has survived a traumatic experience.  One that has not only scarred her physically but mentally as well.  She keeps herself covered in baggy clothes, she doesn’t date, and doesn’t trust easily.  She works in her pie shop and tries to get through each day without triggering the nightmare to replay in her mind.  When playboy Reed comes into her shop her life begins to turn itself upside down.  She doesn’t want to let Reed into her life or heart, but slowly he works his way in, not taking no for an answer.  Reed has his own demons and scars from his past that he doesn’t want Peyton to find out.  These two need to learn to trust each other so that they can heal the scars and begin to live.

I liked Peyton’s character even though at times I wanted to just shake her and plead with her to snap out of her self-imposed prison.  I understand why she is like this, but I have a problem with how she allowed her best friend at times to just push her around and dictate her life.  Ok I hated the best friend, she is a bitch one that needs to learn real quick that the world does not revolve around her ass.  I honestly felt bad for her boyfriend, I think she took his balls the second they began dating.

Reed, he is your typical rich playboy.  Not wanting to commit, and if one of his hook ups started to want more, he showed her to the door.  But with Peyton he is different.  He knows that he has to take things one step at a time with her.  He knows that he needs to get her to trust him before she will share her secrets with him, but yet he keeps his own personal secrets from her at the same time.

Then there is the jealous ex who feels that she needs to stick her nose into their business, cause come on let’s face it the ex always has to try to stir the pot of shit and make trouble.  And this ex, she’s a first class bitch to put it mildly.

I am not going to sugar coat how I feel about this book.  At times I wanted to not finish it, to just erase it off of my Kindle and move on to the next book.  I liked the book but sadly at times it was so annoying that I just cannot love it.  Now, I am not saying not to read it, I would never do that, but if you do read it be prepared for immature, bossy best friends, bitch ex’s, secrets, and total lack of communication at times and a female who would rather hide in her own self-pity than try to heal and become a stronger person because she is a survivor for a majority of the book.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Pieces For You (For You #2) by Genna Rulon

Warning:  While this can be read as a standalone you will understand more if you read Only For You first.  It also deals with the topic of rape so please be aware.

Sam has suffered something that no woman should ever have to suffer, to make a horrible event even more horrific someone she loved could have prevented it but didn’t.  Sam has shut down during her time to heal but is now beginning to become herself, a damaged but healing self once more.  Between the love from her best friend Ever, Hunter and their friend Griffin she is finally able to slowly live life once more.

Griffin has wanted Sam since the first time he ever saw her and was heartbroken when he found out what she went through.  He let his inactions before allow her to slip through his fingers but it will not happen again if he has anything to say about it.  He knows that he has to be cautious and patient with Sam but when threats against her begin he will be damned if she ever is hurt again.  The only problem?  Sam thinks she can handle everything herself.

Sam needed to heal and her going away allowed her to do that.  When she returns home she knows that she has Ever and Hunter there to help her and be there for her to finish healing from the nightmare that she suffered.  Slowly the old Sam begins to emerge and when she does it’s almost like she yells out “I am back bitches” but she will never be the same person she was before the attack happened.

Griffin knew that he had to take his time with Sam and not only earn her trust but her heart as well.  I love the nickname he gives her because you find out it means more than what you are originally allowed to believe and it made me fall head over heels in love with Griffin.  He takes some matters into his own hands and while his actions were not the “right” thing to do it needed to be done and he handled it perfectly.    He was going to protect his girl and that’s what he does even when Sam makes him want to choke her himself when she acts like she does not need his help.

Sam at times really annoyed me because of how she acted and while I understand that victims process their healing and move on in their own way it was at times unbelievable the way she acted.  Maybe she just rubbed me the wrong way in this book because in Only For You I loved her character.  Griffin, I can only praise Griffin’s character and will say that he is one of my favorite new book boyfriends.  For me, he is what made me rate this book 4 stars, if he wasn’t the way he way I will be honest and say I probably would not have liked this book as much as I did.

Genna Rulon has written a topic that is one that is painful for too many survivors, but she has shown that with the right love whether it be from friends or the person who would love you unconditionally, that it is okay to heal and not let it define who you are.  As with Only For You, Pieces For You is not a typical romance by any means, it at times is painful to read due to the emotions surrounding this topic.  It is not only a book about being a survivor but friendship, love and not letting that person who hurt you win by living your life the way you want too and still being able to have your happily ever after.  I am anxiously awaiting to see where Ms. Rulon will take us in the next book of this series.
