Release Day Blitz: Where Darkness Lies By: Bella Jewel

Anger and pain brought them together, but their passion might just set them free.

Dimitri wants only one thing: revenge. His stepfather, Hendrix, has caused him nothing but pain and heartache. At last Dimitri can take something—someone—important to Hendrix and make him pay: Jess.

Jess is feisty and strong headed. Her past haunts her and connects her to the dangerously dark Dimitri in an unexpected way. Dimitri keeps his secrets locked deep inside, and Jess is drawn to this broken man like no one before.

With little to cling to besides their haunting pasts, both could have been doomed to lives spent raging against the darkness that holds them prisoner. Instead, it seems that as their pain draws them closer together, it is their desire that will set them free.

I was a huge fan of Enslaved By The Ocean but in my opinion Where Darkness Lies has blown it away.  You first meet Dimitri in Enslaved By The Ocean and you want to hate him but you know that he has suffered and he blames his step-father, Hendrix, revenge and rage has fueled him for years.  Dimitri thinks that Jess is the way to achieve his goal, little does he know that Jess will do so much more for him than he ever had planned.

Jess is a nurse on Dimitri’s ship but she has a damaged past, one that she believed ruined her from ever having true happiness.  When Dimitri kidnaps her she sure as hell doesn’t make things easy for him.  Slowly she starts to see beneath Dimitri’s hard exterior and sees that there is more to him than people see.

I loved how both Dimitri and Jess interacted with each other, and that Jess didn’t cower from his intensity.  The relationship between them slowly moves from captor/captive to sort of friends and then so much more.  Neither person trusts easily, which is understandable but it is beautiful when these two begin to trust each other.  Is their relationship perfect?  Oh hell no!  Both make mistakes, Dimitri makes a massive one, one where even reading it the second time (cause yep I had to read it twice it really is that damn good) I wish I could have punched him in the balls.  I love how this book shows that even in the darkness, a light can break through and not just bring in the light but also bring healing and forgiveness.

I am very curious as to who the next book in this series will be about.  I have stated before how much I love Bella Jewel’s books and my love has grown more with Where Darkness Lies.  Make sure you read Enslaved By The Ocean first and I promise you that you will love these pirates as much as I have.

4.5 Stars!

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Enslaved By The Ocean by Bella Jewel

Indigo, ”Indy” is on the run from her past.  She knows that it is only a matter of time that it will catch up with her if she stays in the States.  She plans on starting her life over in England, maybe there she will be safe.  While on her way there, the yacht that she is on catches fire and she and Eric, her best friend, have no choice but to abandon ship and pray that someone will come and rescue them.  When help arrives, it’s not who they want to help them, it’s a ship of pirates and not the arrr matey ones but the real dangerous thing.  Either way their fate isn’t looking good, either die at sea or possibly die at the hands of the pirates, even if the captain is sexy as hell.

Hendrix, the pirate captain, is dangerous, an asshole and oh so sexy.  He plans on paying off a debt with Indigo, what he doesn’t plan on is what he starts to feel for her while she is on his ship.  He is mean and will not take any shit from anyone and proves how far he will go to stop her from trying to escape.  There is more than just the rugged and tough exterior to Hendrix, but will Indy be able to see the other side to him?  Will he pay the debt he owes, or will he do whatever it takes to keep Indy with him?

I was surprised how much that I really liked this book, it is different than what I thought it would be and is something I wasn’t sure I would enjoy.  I didn’t know about the whole pirate theme and how it would play out, but it works and honestly it has a pirate/MC feel too it, it wasn’t like how I thought it would be. I couldn’t put it down. I loved the interactions between Indy and Hendrix from the start, you could feel the sexual tension from the first moment they had alone.  He could be such a douchebag to her and then do something to make me love him all over again.  Indy was a survivor and she planned on doing what it took to survive her time with Hendrix, what she didn’t plan on was how she would feel for him.  All I am going to say is I want to recreate that waterfall scene in my life, holy shit that was hot!

I was a fan of Bella Jewel before I read this book, and now I am an ever bigger one.  She makes you fall in love with her series and the characters in each book are ones that you won’t forget.  Fans of her MC Sinners series will love this one as well, and should put this on their TBR list.   I cannot wait for the second book to come out so I can have another dose of these sexy as sin pirates!

Excerpt:

“Stand up, this will be easier if you do,” he orders. He stands, taking me with him, and I lose my balance when I accidentally try to lift the wrong foot. Hendrix reaches out, taking my shoulder and goes to take a step forward to steady me, only to realize he’s wrapped the rope around his ankle, and is now tangled too. As if in slow motion, we topple backwards. I scream, and land with a thump on the ground as the ropes surround me. Hendrix lands over me, but manages to put his hand down to stop me taking the force of his body. He’s pressing into me in places he really shouldn’t be.

“Fuck,” he curses, tugging his hand to try and untangle it.

“How the hell did you get tangled too?” I cry out, squirming.

“Stop fuckin’ squirming like that,” he orders, and I stop as soon as I realize why he’s asked me to. He’s hard. My God, he’s hard.

“You’re…you’re…”

“I’m fuckin’ hard because you’re squirming against me. I’m a man. Get over it.”

“Please reconsider…” I say, lifting my eyes up to meet his. He crosses his broad arms across his chest, and standing like that, he looks incredibly handsome and powerful. God, he’s dangerous, it’s written all over him. From the way his muscles rip and move when he does, to the way his clothes hug his hard, firm body. His hair is loose this afternoon, and it hangs down to the base of his neck in thick waves. He has the kind of hair any woman would envy. The gold hoops in his ear glimmer. How can he be so beautiful, and yet so completely awful? “All the pleading ain’t goin’ to change my mind. I have debts to pay. Don’t take it personally.” “Don’t take it personally,” I snarl. “You’re selling me to someone who is likely to use me as a sex slave, but you don’t want me to take it personally?” He growls. “Listen, girl. I suggest you stop questioning my motives, and start learning to shut your mouth. I am not beyond hangin’ you off the side of the ship and lettin’ the sharks have a go at catchin’ you.” My eyes widen. His tell me he’s serious. “I don’t want to stay in here with you, let me go back to the cell.” “Ain’t gonna happen.” “I won’t leave my friend, I will make your life a living hell!” I threaten. “Is that a threat?” he growls, uncrossing his arms and stalking over. “No, pirate. It’s a promise. He’s everything to me. I won’t let you leave him down there to rot. Unless you’re going to watch me every second of every day, then you can’t be sure I won’t do whatever it takes to escape this. Including taking my own life.” He takes a deep, ragged breath. “You wouldn’t kill yourself, what sort of friend would that make you?” “You’re selling me to be fucked for the rest of my life, do you really think it hasn’t crossed my mind?” He stiffens as if my words are suddenly a very real possibility. “I will give you one choice here, you either take it or you don’t. If you stay here, keep yourself safe and don’t attempt to run…I will continue to feed your friend. I will give him food and water, and when we stop, I will let him go.” My eyes widen. He’s offering Eric’s freedom, in return for me promising to stay and do as he asks. Basically, it’s my friends life or my own. If I say no, Eric dies. If I say yes, I am basically selling myself. I close my eyes. I already know the answer, I knew it from the moment I decided I would do whatever I could for Eric. I open my eyes and I meet Hendrix’s gaze. “How do I know you’re not lying?” “Pirates code. We make the deal in blood. I don’t break my deals.” “You will swear that he will be fed and given water, and released with no strings. He can go back to his life and live it happily if I promise to do as you ask?” Hendrix nods. I close my eyes and hang my head. “It’s a deal.” He steps forward, and I lift my eyes to see him bring out a knife. He slices it across his palm lightly. A small trickle of blood appears. I cringe, and my entire body begins to throb. I’m about to sign my life away. It’s the only choice. At least with this choice, I know Eric goes free. I can find a way to escape after. I’m sure I can. Hendrix reaches down, and he takes my hand, bringing the knife to my palm. I try to tug it away. “No, I don’t want to blend blood!” I cry. “Everything is sealed in blood, pirates code. You don’t seal it, I don’t promise your friends safety. I don’t have diseases, so stop your crazy and shake my fuckin’ hand.” He makes a line so fine on my palm, I barely feel it. Only a tiny drizzle of blood appears. He reaches his hand out. I hesitate. “How much is your friends life worth to you? If you don’t shake my hand, I don’t make the deal. By blood or by nothing. I don’t break my promises. You hesitate a moment longer, and I will change my mind.” I stretch out my hand. If I die from a disease, so be it. My outcome really isn’t looking too positive anyway. Hendrix reaches his hand out, and just before I touch it, he speaks the words. The words that bind me to him - at least for now. “By the code of the ocean, we make this deal.” I swallow, and I put my hand in his. One of his large hands covers mine, and I find myself shivering at the contact.
“By the code of the ocean,” I whisper. “We make this deal.”
