Giveaway & Review: Escaping Me by Elizabeth Lee

What if you had the chance to start over? What if starting over meant changing everything about yourself? What if it meant finding out who you are? What if it meant nothing would be the same? Would you still want it?

When Whitney caught her boyfriend doing another woman, she left him. She ran to her mother’s house in the middle of NOWHERE. While there she meets bad boy Cole Pritchett. Cole was run out of the last town he lived in. Now, he’s starting over. So is Whitney.

This is an amazing story. It’s about second chances, finding yourself and growing as a person. The romance between Cole and Whitney was sweet, while at the same time pretty hot. They started out as friends but then it grew into something else.

Whitney was pretty neat as she grew as a person. She’s spent her whole life letting others dictate her life. She learned how to stand up for herself, ask for what she wants and deal with whatever happens.

Cole was just as wonderful. He learned when to control himself while still standing up for what he believes in.

The biggest thing was seeing how other people perceptions taint how we see ourselves. Watching Cole and Whitney learn to deal with others perceptions while not letting it taint their own views was neat.

Overall this was a great story! Coming of age has never been sweeter. Plus, I think we would all love to have a mom like Whitney’s!

Escaping Me Excerpt

You look like you've been busy today, too.”  She picks up her hand and settles it on my bicep, kneading against the muscle.  “I could give you a massage.  I'm sure you've been hard at it, trying to get the house fixed up.  Your muscles are all tensed up,” she flirts.
They're tensed up alright, but that didn't happen until you sat down next to me.”  My body is as tense as it can be, especially below the belt.
We could always just go take a hot shower together.”  I know what she is insinuating, and it sounds like a mighty fine offer, but I am not about to let her win.
I lift her chin up and lower my face to hers.  “Nice try, baby, but you're not getting in that house until I say so.”
She wrinkles up her nose and smiles.  “It was worth a shot.”
Don't think that you can come traipsing in here and roll me over with your charms.  You can go bat your lashes at some other sucker,” I jest.  She stands up from the table and walks toward the front of the house.  “Where in the hell do you think you’re going?”  I quickly follow the three steps she took and grab her waist, turning her in my arms to face me.
To find another sucker,” she chuckles before I devour her lips with mine.  I kiss her good and just a little harder than I meant to.  She doesn’t seem to mind. In fact, the way she sighs as my tongue plunges against hers tells me that she rather enjoys it.  When I think she's had enough, I take a breath and find her eyes with mine.
Still want to go find another sucker?”
She purses her kiss-swollen lips and shakes her head.  “Hmm-mm.”
That's what I thought.”  I smile as I tug her back to the picnic table.  This time I sit far enough back on the table so I can pull her between my legs and wrap my arms around her.
Scared I'm going to try and get away again?” she jokes.
I'm not taking any chances,” I confirm as I kiss her behind her ear and then nudge against her with my nose.  We sit quietly for a moment as she lets me breathe her in, the same thing I let her do to me in the driveway when she arrived.  “This is nice.”
It is,” she agrees.  “It's so quiet out here.”
Wait until the coyotes come out.” I nip at her neck and hold her tight to me.
Good thing I've got you to protect me,” she giggles.
About that…” I figure now is as good a time as any to let her know about my past.  “I'm not saying I won't protect, because I would.  Shit, I'd fight the wind if I thought it was going to mess up your hair, but I'm trying not to be that guy you got a glimpse of at the bar the other night.”
She turns her head to look at my face.  “What are you talking about?”
I saw the way you were watching me after I picked that kid up who hit Zeke.  It seemed like you were into it.  Like maybe you liked it a little bit,” I confess.  Even in the moonlight, I can see her cheeks redden.  “I'm trying to stay out of fights and I don't want you to think that I'm some lunatic that goes around starting them.”
I don't,” she quickly answers.  “I mean, yeah, it was kind of hot to see you rough Ricky up a bit, but it's not what you think.  I'm not turned on by the fact that you could beat him up.  I was turned on by the fact that you weren't afraid to take charge.”
That's funny coming from you,” I chuckle.  “You don't seem to have a problem taking charge with me.”
She shakes her head.  “That's a recent development, trust me.  I've never been in charge of one thing in my life.  I'm so used to having people tell me what to do, and then I moved here with my mom, who's very much into me making my own decisions, and I met you.  I guess you make me want to be in control of my actions for once.”  The way she is opening up to me only makes me want to protect her more.  Somewhere along the line, this smart, funny, beautiful girl was made to feel like she couldn't think for herself.  It pisses me off and I am just some backwoods hick.  It's not like I was raised in some liberal household where women were empowered, but I did grow up in this century.  What kind of assholes has this girl been around?

Cover Reveal: Escaping Me by Elizabeth Lee

All she wanted to do was forget. Forget the memory of walking in on her boyfriend in the middle of, well, another girl. Forget how she had her entire life planned out. And, forget about being perfect all the time. Unfortunately, she was Whitney Vandaveer and despite the fact that she moved to the middle of nowhere—she couldn't.

He always knew he would never be more than nothing. No job, no money, no future. Cole Pritchett had accepted the fact that he would always be the screw up and he was okay with it. Until he met her.

Here's the thing they quickly found out—sometimes we all need a little help escaping who we think we are.

Review: Shattered by Elizabeth Lee

This is not a rock star kind of book in the least, but this song was made for this book... Brantley Gilbert, You Don't Know Her Like I Do

"The relationship I'd once had with Garret and Jesse was now
comparable to a broken window."

Best friends torn apart by an unfortunate and untimely death. For Jesse, Garret and Alyssa, they were inseparable. Rode four-wheelers, ate lunch together at school, and were each others prom dates. They were each others backbone when times got tough with family. A friendship that started out because of a friends watchful eye ends up being the most amazing bond three young teens could ask for- until one life is cut too short. Now two friends are left to cope without him.

Shattered is now, without a doubt, one of my favorite books.

Jesse!! He's definitely on my Jerk of My Dreams shelf! He might be the total package. Jerk (obviously!), sweetheart, asshole, small town hottie, and so very loveable. But he's more like the sweetest jerk- and that is okay! Jesse was a total jerk at time but then would show such sweetness towards Alyssa that it nearly killed me. *sigh* I <3 him.

Alyssa was so devastated by the loss that she shut Jesse out completely... well as much as she was able to. He tried every which way he could to penetrate that hard head of hers until she finally saw the light. Alyssa was suffering on the inside after loosing Garrett, who was still so ever present and probably will always be. But what she failed to notice was that Jesse was suffering as well.

Alyssa was drowning her sorrows in alcohol and prescription pills, pills which her witch mother made her take since Alyssa wasn't recovering fast enough after loosing Garret. Jesse tried to be there for her, but she wanted to hurt him the way he hurt her when he left, so she ran into the arms of the towns playboy who was nothing but bad news.

I've had this book on my kindle for some time now and refused to read it. I just knew the affect it was going to have on me and wasn't ready for it. But after reading Give Me Something by Elizabeth as well, I felt like I was ready. Shattered tore me up for sure, but I truly loved this story and the emotion it brought forth from me. I want to feel every word when I read... and sure did with this book! The characters left a lasting impression on me, ones that I don't think I could ever forget.

The only minor issue I had with this book is the reconciliation between Jess and Alyssa. I felt like when it finally came, it was dealt with too quickly. I would've preferred to see them talk it out more than what they did. They'd been through a lot together, and to see it wrapped up so quickly didn't work for me.

I feel Elizabeth Lee is an under rated New Adult author whose name needs to get out more. She has the right balance of emotion, plot and realism with this story that anyone can connect to. I see a lot of potential in Elizabeth Lee and look froward to her future work.

T&E: Twitter Love...and a Giveaway??

So this is a totally random, but book related, post. And there's a giveaway at the end, of course. So yay!

I took to Twitter recently due to a good blogger friend who was giving me some advice one day. I have to say, that I love Twitter now! It's way better than facebook! Facebook is loaded with constant drama, but not Twitter. I've met the coolest bloggers, readers and authors on Twitter! I should probably thank my blogger friend for making me go on Twitter since I met some freaking awesome people! Thank you to The Autumn Review!! <3

Have you heard of author Elizabeth Lee? If not, please check her out!! I beg you! She tweeted me one day, and her and I have been dating ever since. Okay, not really! LOL But we became fast friends on Twitter and I love her!!! You know what I mean. :) She not only writes some emotionally angst filled YUMMY books, but she has such a great sense of humor. She's very welcoming and easy to talk to. I know as a reader, I get all giddy and shy when it comes to speaking with authors. You know... they're our ROCKSTARS! Even as a blogger, I'm all shy, I just can't help it. But Elizabeth is an incredibly down to earth nice person to talk to. She's very humble and sweet, and not all authors are easy to talk to- TRUST ME.

So that's what this blog post is about...how much I adore Elizabeth and the wonderful friends I've met on Twitter! It's all book related too! I've decided to show you Tweets for you to understand. :)

Elizabeth helped get me hooked on Country music, which I never expected to happen- like ever! Now every time I hear a new song I love, I have tweet her. She's probably sick of me now, but tooo damn bad! The songs are like mini stories in each one! It's her fault for introducing me to singers like Brantley Gilbert. I'm obsessed with him. And Lee Brice. And Jake Owen. And LOTS more. You've got to hear those voices...holy hot damn! I can't believe I held out so long!

'Somewhere Without You' by Kenny Chesney played on the radio and it hit me HARD. So I tweeted Elizabeth and told her she had to write a book for me that's similar to the song. Yeah, I told an author to write a book for me. LOL! She'd be perfect to do it, since she lives in the sticks and all and understands country lingo...

Elizabeth knows I love the guys with the raspy, deep voices. Tyler Farr's 'Redneck Crazy' is a song that she wanted me to listen to....

Another person I met on Twitter is the HILARIOUS Amanda from Globug and Hootie Need a Book Blog I swear, this chick was a comedian in another lifetime. I have never, ever, met someone as funny as her! You never know what she's going to say, but you can bet your ass you'll be laughing!Ashley from Ash's Book Nook gets in on the action often too. She's another that's fun to tweet with.

I have this weird teeny bopper crush on Justin Bieber. Hey!! His music is catchy! Unfortunately, no one feels the same way as I do. JB came up in topic one day, though, I can't remember how....

But seriously, who's better looking? If you HAD to pick one?

I can't deal...

Polly Pocket? The other day Amanda told me Kenny Chesney looks like a turtle in so many words. But see what I mean! Just rereading those twit pics and I'm laughing!!

As I write this, I'm listening to Brantly Gilbert (DUH) and drinking Raspberry Rum with Redbull...

As you can see, Twitter is the place to be! Get on there and come tweet us!
