Review: First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones

Why or oh why did I wait so long to read this book?  It’s fabulous and now I can’t wait to read the next one in the series!  I love a good cliffhanger and the fate of the world is no small cliffhanger!

Charley Davidson is a snarky, tough, sparkly grim-reaper and I loved her character. She falls in love with, who else, the son of Satan! Of course she doesn’t know he’s the son of Satan, only that he’s hot and she can’t stay away.  As she navigates life, seeing ghosts, helping the dearly departed cross over (through her no less), and solving murders, she tries to save Reyes. Once she finds out he’s the son of Satan, she’s a little freaked out. I mean, who wouldn’t? Through it all she keeps a sense of humor and a badass attitude.

Ms. Jones did an amazing job of building characters that you love! Including one you’re kind of scared to love but do it anyway! I find her take on the grim reaper and the after-life interesting. I don’t usually care for books that have ghosts. I usually find them tedious. However, Ms. Jones does an amazing job of keeping the story flowing, the characters interesting and ever changing.

I loved this book and my only regret is that I didn’t read it earlier.  I’m looking forward to the next one in the series and can’t wait to dive into it!
