Cover Reveal: Broken By Lies By: Rebecca Shea

I had no idea how much I would love Alex the day he walked into my life.

He changed everything.

The way I breathed.
The way I thought.
The way I loved.
He brought me back to life.
He gave me strength and a safe place to land.

And then he broke me.

Finding Emilia was a chance to do something good for once in my life.

I wanted to change.

She believed I was her savior.
I ached to be.
She found her way into my heart and claimed it as her safe place.
I should be telling her the truth about me…instead I break her with lies.

This book is a New Adult Romance and contains mature subject matter. It is not intended for those under 17 years of age.

:An Excerpt:
**unedited, subject to change**
“What can I do to help you, Emilia? What do you need?” I wonder what it is she truly needs, aside from the basics of shelter and food.
“Nothing. You’ve done enough for me already.”
“I haven’t done anything.”
“You’re letting me stay here, which is very kind and honestly very unsettling.” She lets out a little laugh. “I don’t know you. I know nothing about you, except your name is Alex. And quite frankly, this entire situation scares me a little bit.” It’s the first time she’s been open with me, and I want to put her fears to rest.
“What do you want to know?” I lean back against the cool brick wall and study her.
She sits cross-legged on the bed, her skirt tucked just inside her knees. “Do you always pick up girls from the side of a road and bring them home?”
“Nope. This was definitely a first.” I chuckle.
“How old are you?”
“Twenty-seven.”
“What’s your last name?”
I hesitate, wondering what she’d find if she Googled me. “Estrada.”
“What do you do—your job?”
Shit. My family runs a fucking cartel. We smuggle drugs, people, guns—you know, living the American dream. I barely contain my cringe as I half-lie, “I own real estate and am co-owner of a transportation business.”
That wasn’t so hard.
She eyes me cautiously. “So you’re rich.” She glances out the open bedroom door into the condo that’s overbearing and way too extravagant for someone my age.
“I have money, enough of it that I’m comfortable, but I’m hardly rich.” I don’t know why I said that, but it’s true. While I have cars, a luxury condo, and more money than I can spend in my lifetime, there are so many things I’m missing. The things that truly make a person rich, I will never have—a nine to five job, a normal relationship, a family.
A spark of amusement hits her eyes. “What’s your favorite color?”
I give a small smile. “Blue.”
“Do you have any siblings?” she continues.
My brows furrow at this sudden onslaught of random questions. Before I can answer, she jumps in with the one I’m not sure I’ll ever be able to answer honestly.
“What scares you?”
I hesitate, wondering how to answer. Never show your fears. This is how I was raised. Men don’t show fear and they never talk about what scares them. “Nothing. I mean, I haven’t really thought about that.” I shrug. “Nothing scares me.” Everything scares me. My life scares me. The fact that I have to look over my shoulder every time I step out of my house scares the living shit out of me.
Pushing forward off the exposed brick wall, I come to where she sits on the bed. As I get closer, her eyes drop from mine to her hands that’re resting on the pillow in her lap. I stand over her thin body and drink in her beauty.
You scare me, Emilia. The feeling to protect and care for a beautiful stranger that I just met scares the living shit out of me.
“What scares you?” I ask her quietly.
She looks up at me, her bright hazel eyes glistening with tears. “Everything,” she whispers. “Everything scares me.”
I want to run my fingers across her cheek to wipe her tears but I hold back. “Don’t be scared. I won’t let anything hurt you."
It’s the first of many lies I’ll tell Emilia.

Excerpt
“All right, everyone.” Lindsay stands up and pushes back her chair slightly. She wobbles a bit on her heels and rests her hand on my shoulder to steady herself. “Apparently, tonight is as good as any night to let you all in on a little secret.” She wipes the palms of her hands down the sides of her black dress. “So, for a little over a year now, Matt and I have been seeing each other.” There are a few chuckles, but mostly everyone sits silently listening to Lindsay. “We’ve kept it quiet for a while simply because it’s what worked for us.” She shrugs. “It started off casual and just turned into more, and we didn’t really make a big deal out of it.” She looks down at me and smiles the most beautiful, genuine smile I’ve ever seen. Her blue eyes sparkle in the lights from the crystal chandelier and her long, blonde hair hangs in waves. She looks almost angelic in the dimly lit room. “So, cat’s out of the bag.” She laughs and raises her glass. I stand up and raise my glass next to hers. “To Matt and me,” she says with a smile on her beautiful face. I lean in and press a long kiss to her lips while everyone hoots and hollers around us. “I love you, sweet girl,” I say between kisses.

Today’s spotlight is Rebecca Shea! You asked the questions, she answered them. Enjoy!

What inspired you to start writing?
I’ve always been a writer. I just never sat down and took the time to do it. I’ve always had the stories in my head, I just never really took the time to sit down and really fulfill the actual story put it pen to paper or sit down with the laptop to do it. So, I finally did that in I guess starting in 2012 is when I kind of really started working on the story. It took me a good eight months to get it out and where I was comfortable enough to say okay I’m going to send this out to beta readers and send it out to an editor. So, it took me a while, but it was just taking that time for myself to take that story and let it out of my head.

What are you planning to do next?
I am still working on two different stories. The third and final book in the Unbreakable series, which is titled Unforgiven, that will close out this series. Then I’m working on a standalone romantic suspense called Evil Lives Here. That one right now is kind of my favorite story. It’s just very different that the contemporary romance that I’ve been writing. It’s still contemporary romance, but it’s a little darker, a little more suspense to it. I read multiple genres. I fluctuate between romance and mystery thriller. I love Mary Higgins Clark. I love Patricia Cornwell. So, I’m kind of taking some of those little things I’ve read in their work, just that, that suspense background and working it into the romance, contemporary romance novel.

If you could turn one of your books into a TV series or a movie, which one would you choose?
Oh my gosh! I think it would be Unbreakable. I think that there is just a lot happening in that story. There’s a lot of characters. There’s a lot of depth in that story that eventually carries on to Undone, but you get so much background in Unbreakable. I think that would be the one I’d make into a movie. It’s funny too cause those are the ones that I found real life actors to envision as my characters.

Who’s your dream cast?
For Gabe Garcia is was Jay Hernandez from the Friday Night Lights T.V. series. Jessica Harper, Jess, I really envisioned Emma Roberts; the dark haired Emma Roberts as her. Just kind of that young, very innocent sweet face. And Landon was always

Stephen Amell from the Arrow series. He’s just got that very sexy, rugged look about him. Kind of that all American, even though he’s Canadian, that all American, kind of that sandy blonde hair, the blue eyes but very mysterious kind of look to his face too which is just totally my Landon. So, that would have been my dream cast.

What inspired your characters?
I don’t even know. It was just like I said, it was a story that I had in my head and I just you know just wrote it.

What is the time frame from start to finish for your first book?
My first book, I started writing it in December of 2012 and I published it in July. It was technically done in June, but I waited. For me I just wanted to take my time with it. So, it was I guess about eight months total for my first book. Which everybody tells me is not a bad timeframe cause some people work for years on a book.

If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?
Well, I’m not always a writer. I actually work full-time in the financial services industry. I’m a Marketing Manager for a bank. I love my job. It keeps me busy. I love my co-workers. I never to intend to quit just to write. I love writing to write. I love writing stories. I guess it’s a hobby of mine. But, if I ever became dependent on it to pay my bills or put food on the table for my family I feel like I would lose the love for it because now it’s the pressure.

Who do you fangirl over?
Oh my gosh, Rebecca Donovan. She was like my…I just…I just get nervous. I took a picture with her today and I was like ahhhh. I love her and she’s so sweet. I really respect her and what she’s done with her business. I just I adore her.

Well that’s it folks! Ten authors. One fun event. I thank all the authors for their time and you for stopping by and reading their interviews. Check out more about Rebecca Shea below.

Blog Tour and Giveaway: Undone by Rebecca Shea

Landon doesn’t do relationships.  Landon has rules that he follows, he never sleeps with the same woman twice, he doesn’t kiss a woman and he doesn’t share his past.  He almost broke those rules once, and while he doesn’t regret what happened, he will always remember her.  All he needs is his career, his sister Lindsay, his best friend Matt and a willing woman to share his bed for just a night.  At least he thinks that’s all he needs until he meets Reagan.

Reagan is new in town and is getting her career on track.  She is the newest partner in the practice so she knows she needs to concentrate on proving her worth.  What she doesn’t need is an attraction to a man that once he sleeps with her will be out the door.  She can’t stop thinking of Landon though, and against her better judgment sees him while trying to keep up the boundaries she has set so he doesn’t just walk away from her too.

We first met Landon in Unbreakable, and I will be perfectly honest I hated him.  I thought he was an asshole from the start and didn’t want to change my opinion of him at all.  Yes, I can be extremely stubborn at times, oh well that’s just me.  Landon has issues, that was made apparent in Unbreakable as well, ones that have made him who he is today.  He can be a total douche bag to women, have sex once then move on is he motto and he has no plans to ever settle down.  When he meets Reagan, he wants what he always wants, sex, but when Reagan doesn’t just fall into his bed but wants to actually spend some time with him, he actually goes along with it.  I slowly warmed up to Landon, yes that stubbornness of mine was being chipped away slowly but surely by Landon actually being sweet in his own way.  I felt for him when I read about his past, what he had lived through and I could understand why he kept it to himself.  By the end of Undone, I loved Landon, more than I ever thought I would.

Reagan doesn’t want to just be another notch on Landon’s bedpost.  She wants a relationship with Landon even if she doesn’t have the time for one because she is just getting started at her practice with the other partners.  She wants Landon to trust her and pushes and pushes him to open up until one day pissed off at him she pushes way too far.  She wants Landon to just instantly trust her but yet she has her own secrets that she doesn’t share right away either.  When a major event happens, instead of understanding Landon’s need to process it, she gets pissed off that he needs time and basically acts like a spoiled child and does the one thing she always accuses Landon of, running.  She pushes Landon away afterwards even when Landon proves that he will be there.  I really did not like Reagan at all, her character was hypocritical and judgmental at times as I honestly wanted to just smack the living shit out of her when she would constantly prod at Landon to share when he obviously wasn’t ready.

Undone had my emotions going all over the place.  One minute I hated Landon, the next I wanted to cry for him, and the next I loved him.  Reagan would piss me off, annoy me and make me want to throw my kindle at times.  By the end of Undone my emotions had been on a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs that I wondered if I needed meds to balance me out.  Undone is the second book in this series, and if you have not read the first book, Unbreakable (which for the record I absolutely loved and couldn’t get enough of) then you should read it before starting Undone.  Rebecca Shea has made a loyal fan out of me from the start with Unbreakable and Undone helped to make me love her even more.  I cannot wait for Matt and Lindsay’s story which comes out next.
