Blog Tour: Beautifully Brutal By Nicole Edwards

Sometimes love isn’t beautiful...
Sometimes the only way to describe it is beautifully brutal.
If you think you know him… You’re wrong.
If you think you know his family… Wrong again.
If you think you know his story… You don’t.
If you did, you’d likely wonder how the hell a man like Maximillian Adorite managed to make it to this point in his life. At twenty-nine, he’s experienced more than most people could only ever imagine, all thanksto his family. Organized crime they call it. Mafia.
No matter how they spin it, it comes down to one thing. Max gets what he wants. Except for the one thing he wants most.
Her name is Courtney Kogan.
And now that he’s had a taste of her, Max knows he’ll never be able to let her go.

The Southern Boy Mafia series is a spinoff from the Sniper 1 Security series. It has been set up to be read without reading Sniper 1 Security, however, the characters will frequently cross over.
Sitting down to type this review I knew I was going to have problems because while I am a huge Nicole Edwards fan, I had a hard time getting into Beautifully Brutal.  I have read Wait For Morning and was excited to find out this would spin off and connect the two series together.  I just wasn’t feeling like I wanted to be invested in reading this book that for me started off slowly and couldn’t hold my attention.  It took me longer to read this one than I ever have taken to read a book that I had been wanting for so long, but slowly I did read it and the further along I got into it I did begin to like it more.  I just never loved it and it is killing me to say that or more correctly type.

I enjoyed the feel of the Romeo and Juliet type thing that was going on but while I really did like Max because you just knew that Courtney was it for him from the start, Courtney I was never really able to warmed up to.  I think first impressions of her (although it wasn’t really a first impression per say since I did read Wait For Morning), caused my unmovable opinion of her.  She just came across very bitchy and for some reason it bothered me more than it usually does.

I will say this, even though this one may not be my favorite from Nicole Edwards the heat level didn’t disappoint.  I can always guarantee that when I read any book by Nicole Edwards that the sex will be scorching hot and will leave me squirming in my seat. I do still plan on continuing reading this series because I think this may be an instance of my mood when I started to read Beautifully Brutal, and not the book itself.

Excerpt:
Courtney spun around, her gaze slamming into his.
“Check on me? Why the hell would you wanna do that?”
Because it was an excuse to see her. But that wasn’t what Max told her. “I wanted to make sure you were all right.”
Courtney huffed as she returned to pouring the vodka into a glass, adding 7-Up from a can sitting on the table. Max’s gaze instantly strayed to the extra glass, and his frustration rose again.
She tossed him a glare over her shoulder. “Oh, you’re referrin’ to when you blew some guy’s brains out in the middle of your office? Don’t you have a dead body to clean up or somethin’?”
He didn’t say a word. His rule was that he’d never own up to anything. He didn’t feel safe anywhere that wasn’t home, never knew when someone was trying to trap him. And of all people, Max wasn’t delusional enough to believe Courtney wouldn’t turn on him with the right motivation. Ultimately, she was one of the good guys. And that was why they never had been able to find a middle ground. It was more difficult than it appeared considering they were at opposite ends of the spectrum—middle ground was just too far away for either of them.
Not to mention, arguing with Courtney was moot. Max knew from experience that she would never let up, which was why he’d given up long ago.
“Oh, right. You have people for that,” she continued, turning to face him again before taking a sip from her glass. “I’d offer you a drink, but then you might think you can stay.”
“I’m gonna stay,” he informed her.
Courtney’s eyes narrowed on him, and Max’s body instinctively reacted, hardening instantaneously.
“You’re not gonna stay,” she retorted, her tone clipped. “Not today, not tomorrow. Not ever.”
Max shrugged out of his leather jacket, folding it across the arm of the sofa as he moved closer.
“I’m serious, Max,” Courtney said, her eyes widening as she backed up until her ass hit the table. “You’re not stayin’. RT’ll be watchin’ my house until you leave. It’s not an option.”
Max continued to stalk her slowly until he was standing only a few inches away from her. Unable to resist, he cupped her face in his hands, enjoying the silky smoothness of her skin against his palms.
Damn, how he’d missed her. It’d been damn near a full year since the last time he’d touched her, since the last time he’d made love to her. Although touching her now ... it was as though not a minute had passed since that fateful day.
“I’m stayin’,” he said softly.
Courtney shook her head, opened her mouth, but then snapped it closed. She wanted to argue; it was evident in the lines that creased her forehead.
Leaning forward, Max tested the waters, allowing his lips to brush hers lightly. Even that was nearly more than he could handle. It’d been too damn long since he’d touched her, tasted her, loved her. And fuck if he didn’t want to do it all again. Right here. Right fucking now.
“Max, please,” Courtney pleaded quietly. “Please don’t do this.”
“Do what?” he questioned roughly, pulling back and allowing his eyes to slide over her beautiful face, down the slender column of her neck, where he noticed the rapid thump of her pulse.
“We’re through,” she stated, her tone holding a hint of conviction.
“So you’ve said.” In fact, Courtney had told him they were over many times during the year they’d been together. And for the year that followed, right up until this very moment, Max had thought about her every single day, about the way she’d ended things so abruptly the last time. Didn’t matter that he’d called her bluff and that had technically been the reason they’d gone their separate ways.
Had it not been for the crazy shit he had to deal with on a daily basis, he might’ve actually taken the time to play her games. But there was another problem with that. He was fucking tired of playing, which was the only reason he’d allowed her to walk away then.
And that was the real reason he was there tonight. He wanted to know whether or not this was truly over. For him, it wasn’t. There wasn’t a chance in hell that he’d ever be able to get over her. Probably not in his lifetime. But that didn’t mean that moving forward wasn’t possible. With or without her.
If she didn’t want him, he’d move on. He had business arrangements dangling in the wind, one in particular that was entirely dependent on where he stood with Courtney.
“Tell me you want me to leave, Courtney. Tell me to go, and I’ll never darken your doorstep again. You’ll never have to see me.”
Max could see the surprise in Courtney’s eyes, in the way her throat worked when she swallowed hard. He’d never made her that promise, never told her that he’d willingly let her go, although he’d spent the last year staying away from her. He’d had eyes on her the entire time; he knew every single move she’d made during those months. He knew for a fact that Courtney had never brought another man home with her, nor had she ever gone home with a man. Had she made that choice, Max wasn’t sure how things would be at this moment, but more than likely, there’d be another dead asshole buried six feet under.
The point was, she hadn’t.
“Tell me that’s what you want, and I’ll do it, Courtney. But know this ... if you send me away this time...” Max took a deep breath, exhaled. “I won’t come back. Whatever this is between us, it’ll never die, never go away completely, and we’ll both have to live out the rest of our lives with the decision that you make right here. Tonight.”
“I want...”

The pause that followed stole the air from the room.

Blog Tour & Author Interview: Center Mass By Lani Lynn Vale

Luke Roberts came to the small lazy town of Kilgore, Texas with one thing on his mind: Forgetting. He wanted to forget why he left. Forget those emerald green eyes that haunted his dreams. And forget how it felt to have his heart ripped out of his chest by a woman who didn’t like the fact that he had a child. It was something he’d been doing a damn fine job of doing, too. Until Reese smashed through every one of his defenses, and made him feel again.

Reese Doherty was just trying to do the best for her little girl. So she moved to the little boomtown nearly an hour from where she grew up to be the school nurse for Kilgore’s littlest people. That’s where she met him. The SWAT officer and the man that would change her life forever. The sexy man who liked to drive fast, and live life like it should be lived. He drove her crazy, and became something she could barely live without.

But Luke was a hero. A man used to risking his life to make the world a safer place. Something Reese had to decide whether she could handle or not. Preferably before her and her daughter became too attached.

Just when she’s ready to give him her whole heart, her world takes a huge hit, and everything she thought she knew wasn’t as it seemed.

Luke wasn’t a quitter, though. Damn far from it, and he’d prove to her that he’d be there when the dust settled. Whether she wanted him to be or not.
When you read as much as I do, it at times can be hard to find an author who is consistently one that hasn’t let you down with their books.  Sometimes an author can lose that special touch that has made their previous books ones that you re read and remember, sometimes you just don’t click with a character or sometimes your love for that particular author has run it’s course.  Luckily for me, none of those scenarios have happened yet when it comes to reading Lani Lynn Vale’s books.  Have I read all of her books?  No I have not read her Boomtown series yet but that is something I plan on correcting very soon.  I was super excited when I found out she was starting a new series that also ties into her other ones but this time it is about a S.W.A.T. team with ties to her previous characters.  Center Mass is the first book in her Code 11 KPD SWAT series and I am already wanting more of these sexy alpha cops.  Let us take a moment to appreciate the sexiness that is a member of a S.W.A.T. team in their full gear and guns, sigh I need to wipe the drool from my mouth.

Luke and Reese balance each other out.  Luke being the alpha male tough guy that is soft inside when it comes a certain little girl in his life.  Reese is sassy, stubborn as a mule at times and also a little, let’s say crazy yeah crazy works but she is crazy in a good way.  I was crying from laughing at times because they would crack me the hell up, add in the secondary characters and you have yourself a real life comedy act going on, especially when you are chasing naked old men around the streets.  See now you are wondering about that little tid bit aren’t you?  Let’s just say I had the giggles for a while after reading about that.

I love how the author finds the perfect mix of humor, suspense and sexiness for each of her characters.  Each book in my opinion has gotten funnier and draws you into quicker and quicker, to the point that once you begin reading you don’t want to stop until you reach the last word.  If you are a fan of Lani Lynn Vale’s previous books then you will love Center Mass, and if you haven’t read any of her books yet please go grab them and dive right in, you won’t regret it.

Welcome to My Secret Romance, I am honored that you agreed to a short interview with me today.  I loved the entire Heroes of the Dixie Wardens MC series, and I just finished Center Mass and loved it as well.  I am having a bit of a fan girl moment so don’t mind me.

1.        Can you tell us a little about yourself and your books?  What are you currently working on?
My books are about the ultimate alpha men and the women that tame them….well as much as they can be tamed.  ;)  I started writing early in 2013, and published my first book in June of 2013. I’m a married mother of three, and I live in Texas.  I started going to school for nursing, but found that I much rather liked not having a time constraint on my writing, so I started doing that full time in February of this year.  :)

2.       How can your readers get in contact with you?
My Facebook page would likely be the easiest.

3.       What inspires you to write?
Anything and everything, really.  Someone cuts me off in traffic.  I see a hot guy in line at the gas station in front of me.  I walk into the mall and a couple of young kids are acting like fools.  So everyday life is what inspires me.

4.       What are some of your favorite authors and/or book series?
Kristen Ashley, of course!  But I fell in love with books by reading Saving Grace by Julie Garwood.  I loved Twilight.  Patricia Briggs.  Jim Butcher.  I’m a little bit of everything type of woman.

5.       Which character or characters have been the easiest for you to write and which ones have been the hardest?
Sam (From Boomtown) was by far my easiest to write.  He’d been in my head for years before I started writing about him.  Hardest….that would be Loki with Keys to My Cuffs.  Why?  I don’t know.  He just was.

6.       What has been the toughest criticism given to you as an author? What has been the best compliment?  When I released my first book ever, I was so very new and unused to the indie game.  So I of course published my book thinking it was edited PERFECTLY only to learn it wasn’t.  And it was formatted horribly.  So I went back and fixed it, but I still had horrible reviews.  And from one of those reviews I got my first beta reader, Tori.  She was brutally honest, and I’ve never been so happy to have her accept my request.  I recently got a 4 star review from her, and it really nearly tipped me over in my chair! The best compliment would be when I had a woman write me and tell me that my books helped her get through her chemo appointments.  Talk about a good feeling!!

7.       What do you feel about all of the author hater drama that is almost a daily occurrence on social media?  I try to stay out of it.  I’m a very shy person, so I try not to stick my nose into other people’s business in fear that someone will see me and single me out.  So I’m all in my own little world and happy about it.  :)  Although I do venture out to say hi to fans.

8.       What advice would you offer someone who was trying to write their first book and has become discouraged?  Keep at it.  You’ll get bad reviews, but you’ll have to just read them and take note of what they’re saying because most of them will always have something that you can improve on.

9.       What does your friends and family think of you being an author?
My mother tells anyone and everyone she can.  It’s truly humbling to see how proud she is of me. My sister loves it, too, as does my mother in law.  We’re all avid readers, so it’s been no hardship for them to read my books.

10.   What is one secret obsession that you have?  Ummmmmm…….hmmmm.  I love watching bikers, firefighters, or military men.  I try not to be conspicuous, but it fascinates me to watch them and get ideas for my books.  It drives my husband crazy!

She sat back in her chair, a smile on her face.  “So you used her for sex?”
I shook my head.  “No.  That’s not what I said.”
“Oh?” She asked.  “Then what did you mean?”
“It means that I was having fun.  She was an amusement, one that might have turned into something more in time, but wore out her welcome when she told me she didn’t like my child,” I said coldly.
I wouldn’t have said it as coldly if I hadn’t seen Lydia stand up in the mirror above Reese’s head.  Just having her anywhere near me set my skin to crawling.  Just as it’d done when I’d left her.
I saw her flinch and turn around, as did Reese, who gave me a sympathetic look.
“You’ve got this twitch…right above your eye,” she said, a grin playing at the corner of her lip.  “I think I really like you.  I didn’t think anyone could be as mean as I could.”
“Are you done yet, or are you just going to play with that straw with your talented tongue some more?”  I asked, exasperated.
She winked.
“What,” she asked, licking the straw completely before sucking it into her mouth.  “Does this bother you?”
She was playing with fire.
“You know,” I said, standing slowly.  “I’ve had one hell of a week.  I’m running on fumes, and you’re getting really close to pushing my last button.”
She stood too, taking the half eaten milkshake with her.
“And what button’s that?” She asked over her shoulder.
I took in the view of her backside.  The tight black pants that molded to her ass perfectly.  Her long hair that just brushed the top of her butt… just begging for me to sink my fingers into it.  A handhold I could pull while I fucked her hard from behind.
“I’m not an easy man.” I said softly behind her.  “I’m rough.  I have a kid. My job’s demanding and I won’t be able to devote a lot of time to you.”
She snorted.  “I’m not an easy woman.  I’m emotional.  I have baggage.  I’m loud.  My kid requires a lot of my attention.  And I PMS once a month.”
In one swift move, I pinned her up against the side of my cruiser.
Her body went limp, and her fingers went to my shirt, clutching it in her fists.
My mouth slammed down on hers.  Weeks of sexual frustration coming out into the kiss.
She tasted like vanilla ice cream.
Soft and smooth, and oh, so sweet.
“You’re so fucking sexy,” I said against her lips.  “When I get you into my bed, I won’t let you up for air for weeks.”
She grinned, pulling in the air I’d just exhaled before saying, “We have kids.  You’ve got until ten A.M.  Tops.”
I leaned forward.  “That’s enough time…for now.”

I’m a married mother of three. My kids are all under 5, so I can assure you that they are a handful. I’ve been with my paramedic husband now for ten years, and we’ve produced three offspring that are nothing like us. I live in the greatest state in the world, Texas.

Blog Tour: Their Virgin Mistress By Shayla Black & Lexi Blake

TourBannerTVM2

TheirVirginMistress_highres
One wild night leads to heartache…
Tori Glen loves her new job as an image consultant for Thurston-Hughes Inc. The trouble is, she’s also in love with the three brothers who own it, Oliver, Rory, and Callum. They’re handsome, successful, aristocratic, and way out of this small-town Texas girl’s league. So she remains a loyal professional—until the night she finds a heartbroken Oliver desperate for someone to love. Tori knows she should resist…but it’s so tempting to give in.
And a desperate plan…
Callum and Rory have denied their desire for Tori, hoping she’ll heal their older brother, who was so brutalized by his late wife’s betrayal. But when Oliver cruelly turns Tori away in the harsh light of day, she tenders her resignation. Rory and Callum realize that to save their brother, they must embrace the unconventional sort of family they’ve always wanted—with Tori at its center. And it all starts with seducing her…
That could lead to happily ever after—or murder.
Isolated with the brothers at an elegant English country manor, they begin awakening Tori to the most sensual of pleasures. But consumed with regret, Oliver won’t be denied the chance to embrace the only woman worth the risk of loving again. What begins as a rivalry veers toward the future they’ve only dared to dream of. But a stranger is watching and waiting for a chance at revenge. Can the brothers come together to embrace the woman they love and defeat a killer?
As I sit down to write this review, even days after finishing Their Virgin Mistress, I am torn about what I feel about the book.  Why am I torn you may ask?  Well it is because I have loved this series since the first book and while I will admit I am a book or two behind this normally is a series that I just automatically know will be super sexy and one that I know I will enjoy.  But this time I loved the suspense, I loved the sex scenes, I loved Oliver, Rory , and Callum, and I loved seeing characters from previous books pop up and play vital parts to the storyline.  What I didn’t like was Tory.  I am used to this series having strong female characters, ones that when they do submit to their Masters it means something more I guess because they aren’t looked at as weak, as Tory for me was extremely weak and massively immature throughout the entire book.  I also felt that it was similar to the first book and not as original as I had hoped.

Now I will warn you to have a change of panties close by when you read this one because it has some panty wetting scenes that fans of this series have come to not just expect but love as well.  Shayla Black and Lexi Blake are two of my must read authors because they know how to write kick ass stories with some extremely hot sex scenes and my opinion of them hasn’t changed.  Will I continue on and not just read the books I missed but future ones as well?  You are damn right I will because even though this particular one wasn’t my favorite I know these two authors will pull me back into the world they are creating and having me wish I was a part of it.

button excerpt
“Rory, what are you doing?” she demanded. He was supposed to be the reasonable one, but he’d proven that looks could be deceiving. Rory kicked opened the door to the hallway. Kicked it open. Yeah, nobody noticed that and it certainly didn’t make her ovaries melt at all. Nope. She didn’t like this side of Rory. Well, no part of her except those softening pink bits and maybe her heart. “I’m taking charge.” He strode down the hall. He didn’t pause or hesitate. When he walked past reporters, he didn’t bother to look their way. He was a man on a mission. “Put me down! You can’t carry me off. I thought I was supposed to smile at the press and make my nip slip go away.” Though she’d actually planned to be long gone by now, Tori realized it was too early to leave. “I don’t care about that. Your breast looked stunning. If it ends up on the front page, I’ll make a poster of it. I don’t care what other people think. I’m done with that and you need to be done with it, too.” He stopped when they passed a security station. The guards allowed them into the palace’s private family wing. One even grinned as he opened the door for them. Once the door closed, they were alone in a grand foyer. The heavy portal blocked the sounds of the party. Now that her surroundings were quiet, she could practically hear her heart pounding. Finally, Rory stopped, and she found herself on her feet again. Tori tried to catch her breath as he pressed closer and invaded her space. “This is too fast.” His fingers brushed her jawline. He dipped his head low. “No. We’ve dragged this out for months. I won’t slow down. Now that I’ve made the decision, I can’t wait any longer.” His mouth descended on hers in a slow slide. He clutched her hips, pulling her into the cradle of his muscular thighs. His lips took hold of hers, molding in a dominant glide. Her whole body went soft and she was grateful for his arms around her. They held her up when all she wanted to do was drop to her knees. Rory was kissing her. Finally. Callum had mentioned topping her. She knew what BDSM meant to well-meaning Doms. It meant they cared about her. It meant they protected her and watched over her. She might be naïve, but that was what it meant to her sister and husbands. BDSM didn’t guarantee a happily ever after, but it should mean she got a say in whatever happened. If they were going to this much effort, surely she meant something to them. Tentatively, she let her hands roam Rory’s shoulders and back as his tongue plunged inside her mouth. There was no questioning lick. He dominated, delving deep. His tongue slid along hers, luring and tempting Tori. Every cell in her body seemed to soften, and she felt her pussy growing slick and wet. Heat burned through her flesh, and she slid her left leg against his to get closer. Rory answered with a groan, pressing her against the wall and pushing his erection against her. He felt so big, so hard. Tori writhed against him, trying desperately to rub herself against his cock and satisfy her growing ache. His forehead pressed to hers as he took a long breath, trying to calm himself. “Keep doing that and I’ll prove to you I don’t mind risking a scandal. I’ll pull up this skirt and fuck you right here.” She had to be the sensible one. “I don’t think this will work.” “The sex will be divine. I already know it.” Tori had no doubt of that. “I meant anything more.” “We’ll make it work, sweetheart.” He brushed another kiss against her lips. All the reasons it couldn’t work pressed on her. The Thurston-Hughes brothers were overwhelmingly possessive men. How could they share? They fought. Would they fight over her? She’d seen Callum’s anger at Oliver and she’d wondered… “Why were Oliver and Callum fighting the day the reporter came to the office?” Even as she asked the question, her hands roved over Rory’s hard form. The woman inside her wasn’t sure she wanted the answer right now. That part of her craved what these brothers could give her. She might have been a virgin until Oliver, but she wasn’t stupid. He could offer her more. They all could, and she wanted to feel the pleasure she’d been denied her first time. He kissed the line of her jaw, then his tongue found her pulse point, making her shiver with desire. “You, of course. You didn’t see the very nice punch I landed. We were fighting over you, but that’s not going to happen again. We’ve talked in detail. Now we’re a united front.” For how long? If she only wanted a night, it didn’t matter…but deep down, Tori suspected she wanted far more. Every cell in her body quaked as he kissed her neck. “Rory, I don’t know.” “Yes, you do. You’ve always known.” He took a step back. “But I’m going to give you a choice. If you’re scared, walk back into that ballroom and I’ll consider the matter finished. I’ll talk to Callum and Oliver, and we’ll court you in a more proper fashion. We’ll be polite and escort you out and take turns like gentlemen. But if you walk into that room with me, there won’t be anything polite about the way we take you. I won’t be a gentleman. I’ll be a Dom. Your Dom, and you’ll know what it means to be utterly possessed by three men who can’t breathe without you. We’ll start preparing you because we’re going to take you in every way a man can take a woman. Think about this because you’re selecting the path we travel. Polite and proper? Or as wild as you can handle it? Do you want to know what it means to submit to men who love you?” “Yes.” The word was out before she could think about it. It didn’t matter. Despite all the reasons she shouldn’t do this, she couldn’t walk away. “Then come with me.” He grabbed her hand and strode down the hall. Tori hurried after him, knowing nothing would be the same again.

Book Tour: Until July By Aurora Rose Reynolds

This is a standalone and a spin off of the New York Times best selling Until Series

Wes Silver wasn’t looking for love, but when July Mayson literally knocks him on his ass during their first encounter, his world is turned upside down by the quirky blonde, and every moment with her makes him more determined to protect her.

July Mayson doesn’t understand the pull she feels toward the bad boy biker Wes Silver, but she knows being with him is like nothing she’s ever felt before. Now all she has to do is tell her overprotective father, Asher Mayson, that she’s found her boom.

Move over Asher Mayson because Wes Silver just proved that he is a badass alpha like you, but his sights are set on your daughter, July.  Wes is a sexy, alpha bad boy biker who isn’t afraid of going after the woman he wants and he wants July.  She was nothing like the other women he used to want.  July is a feisty, sexy, smart ass, strong woman and she does not take any of Wes’ shit and I absolutely loved her!  The sexual tension between these two is combustible and when they get together it is explosive, like change your panties or grab your significant other because I wish that was happing to me type of explosive.

I wasn’t sure how this would stand up next to the Until series, because spin offs can be tricky but Aurora Rose Reynolds nailed it.  From the first sentence until the last I couldn’t get enough of Wes and July.  There is just something, at least for me that is, about a bad boy falling for the one woman who can knock him on his ass instantly.  Maybe it is the allure of the bad boy, or maybe it’s the promise of something beautiful that has me loving these books but whatever it may be I hope that Ms. Reynolds can continue to produce such an addicting read like she has so far.  I am anxiously awaiting for more of not just the Until Her series but I want to see what she has in store for us with Until Jax as well.

Excerpt:

I sit up when I see a few bikes in the distance. I don’t recognize their patches, but that doesn’t surprise me. Tennessee has a huge MC community, and there are always new clubs popping up all over the state. I slow down as I close the distance between us.
The closer I get, the more details I can make out. The group of about five bikes in front of me are all Harleys, all ranging in colors from almost purple to black. None of the men are wearing helmets, which is the complete opposite of me, who is covered from head to toe in black leather. Even my helmet is all black, with leather piping.
I take the men in, noticing they are all well-built, their leather cuts displaying a large eagle, with its wings spread wide like it’s midflight. The talons of the bird are carrying a long stem rose, with petals falling off it onto their club name, The Broken Eagles. I begin to speed up and pass them one by one, thankful for the security of my helmet, the black visor making it impossible to see me.
I keep my head straight until the last guy, the one who is at the front of the group, catches my attention. From the back, his hair is the first thing I notice. It’s slightly long on top and buzzed on the sides. My eyes move to the expanse of his back, the wide set of his shoulders, and the tan skin covering his lean muscles. His bike is low to the ground, and the bars are in front of him in a way that he has to stretch his arms straight out, causing every muscle to flex and move, making it look like the tattoos are alive and dancing.
My eyes skim farther down over his chest, which is covered in a white tank top tucked into a pair of light jeans, and around his waist is a black belt with a large silver buckle. I continue to pass him, my eyes shifting from the road to him and back again. This time when I look over, his head is turned towards me, and if I didn’t know any better, I would have swear he is looking directly into my soul.
“Holy shit,” I whisper, taking in his hair, the set of his jaw that is covered in days of stubble, and a pair of light eyes I can’t quite make out through the tint of my helmet. He is seriously hot, but equally scary-looking. I look from him back to the road. It must not have been even a second, but when my eyes go to the asphalt in front of me, I see a bird that is trying to make its way across the road, its wing hanging in an awkward position. I swerve to the right just in time to miss the poor animal.
“What the fuck?” I hear roared, and I look over my shoulder at the man who is now coming up quick on my right side. I yell an apology over the sound of my engine and his pipes. Do a quick wave and take off, lowering my body and pulling back the throttle, wanting to get away from them. Dude looks seriously pissed off, and even though I hate leaving the bird behind without helping it, I would like to live to see my next birthday.
I think I’m in the clear, but then the sound of pipes fills my ears, and I don’t even know how it happens, but they all catch up with me, surrounding my bike. I can’t make out what they’re saying, but my stomach starts to roll at the sound of their voices. I feel my side to make sure I have the Taser my dad insisted I carry.
I see a clearing and pull my bike off to the side of the road. I know this is probably one of the stupidest things I have ever done, but if they keep chasing me like they have been, we could all end up seriously hurt. I pull over and don’t even shut down my bike. I just lower my kickstand as my heart, which was already beating hard, begins to bang violently against my ribcage as they surround me.
“What the fuck is wrong with you?” the guy who was at the head of the group asks, stepping in front of my bike.
I shake my head as my words get lodged in my throat.
He pulls me off my bike, and the men who are with him begin yelling obscenities as well.
“Sorry,” I croak out, and I don’t even know if he hears me as his hand goes to the collar of my leather jacket, where he shakes me hard. My hand accidently presses down on the button that ignites the Taser. The loud crack fills the air, and his eyes go wide then he falls to the ground, and I fall on my ass and crabwalk backwards. I look up when I hit something, only to meet the eyes of another man, who looks pissed.
“Get up,” he growls, picking me up. My feet flail under me as I’m lifted off the ground with my hands restrained behind my back.
“Hold him still,” the guy who I had tasered growls in front of me as I try to get away from the anger I feel coming off him. His hands go to my head and he rips my helmet off, causing my hair to float down around me.
Complete silence descends. I swear no one even takes a breath.
