Review: Glamour: Contemporary Fairytale Retellings - In A Stranger's Bed by Sophie Jordan

In A Stranger’s Bed is a modern retelling of Goldilocks with a very naughty twist.

Thea finds herself lost and alone in the highlands of Scotland after being accidentally left behind by her tour bus. Caught up in a torrential downpour, she comes across a lone house at the top of a hill. And in true Goldilocks fashion, Thea enters the empty house and quickly makes herself at home.

This story may be short, but Sophie Jordan does not cut corners. We get steam, the pit in your stomach moments, romance, and the sexy—a whole lot of sexy. Holy hotness this was sexy. Our bear equivalent in this story is Niall, a gruff, hot, dirty talking, Scottish sheep farmer whose peaceful solitude is shattered by the intruding Thea. And his hot factor does not go unnoticed.

I loved reading this reimagining. Niall and Thea are good for each other. He awakens a side of her she never knew existed, and likewise she ignites a part of him he thought long gone. Topping the many things I really liked, was the way Ms. Jordan interwove snippets from the classic tale, drawing the connection to her telling. Something so simple, but it brought it all together.

“Face to face with the bear, Goldilocks had never seen so fierce a creature.
His hungry eyes, his snapping teeth, his dark pelt…”
