Book Tour: The Fall Up By

I wanted to jump.

He made me fall.

As a celebrity, I lived in the public eye, but somewhere along the way, I’d lost myself in the spotlight.

Until he found me.

Sam Rivers was a gorgeous, tattooed stranger who saved my life with nothing more than a simple conversation.

But we were both standing on that bridge for a reason the night we met. The secrets of our pasts brought us together—and then tore us apart.

Could we find a reason to hold on as life constantly pulled us down?

Or maybe there’s only one direction to go when two people fall in love at rock bottom—up.

Maybe there’s only one direction to go when two people fall

in love at rock bottom—up.

It is an amazing thing when you can connect not only with a book, but with a character on a personal level.  I have shared some of my personal life in my reviews before and I am not ashamed that I have.  Sometimes seeing another person going through a situation can help another person.  Am I saying my reviews are life changing?  No I am not, but what I am saying is that sometimes you need that little bit of hope, that you aren’t alone, that someone can connect with you on a level that some of the people closest to you can’t.

The Fall Up is one of the best books I have read this year.  I connected with this book because like Levee I have anxiety and depression.  Right before I started to type this review I got a phone call, I won’t say what it was about but I had been anxious all week, to the point of panic attacks and physically getting sick.  When the phone call came in it made all the anxiety intensify by one hundred and even as I write this I am fighting from letting my world, in my mind at least, just totally fall apart.  I have been where Levee was at and it is a scary place to be.  I have my own Sam, my husband who when I am down reminds me that the only way left to go is up.

Levee and Sam heal each other.  Both are on that bridge for different reasons but they form a connection.  It is what they did with that connection that healed them both.  It wasn’t easy, hell if it was easy then I wouldn’t have loved this book like I do.  Life isn’t easy.  Life with a person with mental illness, whatever that illness may be, is harder.  It is the people like Sam who want to help and reach out that are the real heroes in life.

I understand this review was more of a personal nature and I apologize if that is something you didn’t appreciate.  This book hit home with me and I don’t know if I could do the book justice if I didn’t feel that connection and share with you why I have it.  I do want to say this.  There is no shame in asking for help, there is no shame in having anxiety or depression, and there is no shame in feeling like you r world is ending.  There is shame if people turn their backs on those silent cries for help, there is shame for those you judge others because they do not understand, and there is shame in ever not helping when someone does ask.  The Fall Up will stay in my heart not only for the connection I share but because it is beautifully written, emotional and reminds us to remember even the richest person or the funniest person could be hiding their pain from everyone.

“Thank fuck!” Sam said, swinging the door open before Devon even had the car in park.

“Oh, this isn’t my place. We’re just dropping Devon off. I’m about twenty minutes across town?” I tossed him a sugary smile then boldly shifted my hand into his lap, purposely brushing the bulge under his denim.

Grabbing my wrist, he narrowed his eyes and called out, “Devon, I’m gonna need to borrow a bedroom.”
I burst out laughing as Devon cursed loudly.

“Fine. This is my place. No smoking inside though,” I snipped as I climbed from the SUV.

“You better have some seriously exciting extracurricular activities to keep me distracted, then.”

“I have Ping-Pong!”

“Not exactly what I was thinking.” He mischievously cocked his head. “But I guess paddles and balls are as good a start as any.” Dipping down, he hoisted me over his shoulder. “Point me to the Ping-Pong table, my lady.”

I didn’t. I laughed hysterically as he carried me inside. Then I directed him to my bedroom instead.

I heard Devon locking up the house as Sam deposited me on the bed.

“Jesus. This view.” He pushed the curtains back. “Why the hell would you ever go up to the bridge when you have this here?”
“I don’t know,” I answered, pulling my earrings off and placing them on my nightstand.

Oh, but I knew. It might not have been what had originally sent me up that bridge, but it was why my feet carried me back every night. And that very reason was currently standing in front of me with entirely too much clothing on.

“You want a beer?” I asked, sliding my shoes off.

“Nah, I’m good.” He faced me, and I could tell something was off with his demeanor. He didn’t inch any closer. Instead, his lips were tight and his eyes uncomfortably flashed around the room.

It suddenly didn’t feel like Sam standing in front of me at all.

He felt like a stranger who had just come face-to-face with Levee Williams.

Damn it.
“Why are you looking at me like that? Are you about to freak out?” I whispered, nervously moistening my lips.

He shoved his hands into his pockets. “I’m not really sure yet. But I’m gonna need you to stop licking your lips long enough for me to figure it out.” His mouth cracked into a wide grin, and my shoulders relaxed.
Now that was a flash of my Sam.

“Want to tell me what’s going on?” I asked.

“It’s just… I think this is the first time I’ve realized that you’re some big-time celebrity. I might be in over my head here, Designer Shoes.”

“I just make music, Sam.” I returned his smile and very slowly prowled in his direction. “Imagine how I feel though. You’re Samuel Nathan Rivers. A tough, tattooed furniture designer who makes six figures a year but is too afraid to tell his mommy he votes democratic.” I giggled as he frowned humorously. Stopping in front of him, I dragged a fingernail down his chest then teased the waistband of his jeans. “Have you considered that maybe I’m the one who’s in over her head here?” I leaned forward to nip at his lips, but he spun us around.
“Excellent point. I’m going to need you to try really hard to keep it together, Levee. You haven’t even seen my six-pack and huge cock, yet.” He smirked and attempted to return my nip, but I stepped out of his reach.

“You brought beer and chicken?” I feigned excitement.

That one corny joke was all it took to bring my Sam back completely.

With a sexy smile and a coy shrug, he seductively backed me toward the bed. “What can I say? I like to be prepared.”

“Clearly,” I breathed.

He moved in close so his lips were only a centimeter away, but for as much as I wanted him, it was agonizing. “Clearly,” he repeated, his smoky yet sweet breath breezing across my mouth.

His strong arm looped around my waist, tugging me against his chest, while I stared into his hooded eyes, eagerly waiting for him to make a move.

Any move.

Every move.

Blog Tour: Hold On By Kristen Ashley

Since she was young, Cher Rivers knew she was not the kind of girl who got what she wanted. A girl who could hope. A girl who could dream. She knew a happily ever after just wasn't in the cards for her.

In love for years with the last bastion of the 'burg's eligible bachelors, Garrett Merrick, Cher worked hard at making him laugh. Being one of the guys. Having him in her life the only way she could. All this knowing he was in love with another woman.

The Merrick Family is known for loving deep. So when Cecelia Merrick was murdered, it marked the Merricks in a way none of them recovered. Both Cecelia's children found love. Both turned their backs on it. But Garrett "Merry" Merrick knew in his soul the woman he divorced years ago was the one for him.

Until the night when Cher took Garrett's back and things changed. The Merrick family loves deep. They also protect fiercely. And with his eyes finally open, Garrett sees the woman who truly is for him and he goes after her.
It is always an emotional thing when a favorite series comes to an end.  It is even more emotional when the author has the ability to completely draw you into her worlds, make you feel like you are a part of the family, like what you are reading isn’t just words on paper, but that it is real.  Kristen Ashley has been able to do all of those things and more for me ever since I first discovered her books years ago.  When I was told I was selected for an ARC I was at the street fair, so totally something the Queen herself would be doing, I literally danced in the street embarrassing my husband.  He just didn’t understand the excitement I had for Hold On being on my kindle before most of my friends.

Hold On brings us full circle.  We met Cher in For You when she was the girlfriend of the psycho who was after February, we learned then that she had no idea what was going on and her luck with men really sucked.  What we didn’t know was that beneath that tough girl exterior, was someone who had been burned by love more than once that she felt she wasn’t good enough for her own happily ever after.

Garrett, aka Merry we know has gone through his own hurt.  He lost the love of his life when he pushed her away and divorced her.  If you have read Golden Trail you know what happened to cause this but you don’t know it all.  When Merry finds out his ex is moving on for good he doesn’t take it well and ends up at the bar where Cher is tending that night.  He knows his friend will be there for him.  Sometimes though, the person who you thought was the absolute one for you, the only one you would ever want ends up being the wrong person.  It just takes something to happen to open up your eyes to see what is right in front of you.

The first 6% of the book had my feeling so many emotions; I had tears in my eyes for Cher after a certain scene. I wanted to just take her in my arms and say you are worthy of love.  My heart hurt for her, my eyes stung with tears and I wished I could have taken that hit away from her.  I wanted to hate Merry after that, for causing that pain.  I’ve felt pain like that and I never want anyone, even a character in a book, to feel that type of pain.  Merry does redeem himself in my eyes; it actually took me longer than any other of Ms. Ashley’s other males to win me over after they hurt their woman.

The epilogue, oh sweet baby Jesus that epilogue.  If you are a fan of her books you know that Kristen Ashley is the queen of writing an epilogue that will not only wrap up the book, but show you that happily ever after does exist, and even after going through pain, that love will heal your wounds and allow you to have a beautiful life.  I loved reading about all of the couples and their children at the end, it almost makes you think you are there for the event (not saying what event either).  It was the perfect way to end a series that will always be a favorite for this reviewer.

Through this, my leg hit an end table and I adjusted. We cleared the couch, I shifted again too soon, both my calves hit the coffee table, and my ass went down on it.
I looked up. Cell flat to the table, I braced my hands to push up, but Merry was there, chin in his throat, eyes on me, and when he spoke again, his mind was clearly on my location.
“Tried to get your mouth on me more than once when we tore at each other up last Friday, but I was in the mood to use mine. Lookin’ forward to learnin’ what you can do with yours, but like I said, baby, right now, don’t got the time.”
My only response that he couldn’t twist was to glare at him, which was what I did.
“But got time before I go for a kiss,” Merry informed me.
“Only kiss I’ll give you is tellin’ you to kiss off,” I informed him.
“Who knew warm brown eyes like the ones you got could spark that kind of fire,” he muttered as if he wasn’t even talking to me.
“Step back,” I demanded.
“No,” he denied.
I continued to glare up at him, then I realized I was not the kind of woman who sat on her ass, glaring up at a man towering over her and pinning her in. So I stood, which put me smack in Merry’s space, my breasts brushing against his abs and up his chest on my way.
They kept brushing when he didn’t move back, but I didn’t attempt escape, even to get away from the shafts of electricity this all caused at my nipples, shafts that headed south.
I glared at him from closer.
He stared into my eyes, his gaze moving down to my mouth then back up as one side of his lips curved.
He was getting off on this.
I didn’t get that and I didn’t want to get that.
I wanted this done.
“In the mood to play, Officer?” I whispered.
“Told you, sweetheart, don’t got the time.”
I shook my head but held his gaze. “Not what I mean. Single mom, all alone. Switch out her storms. Offer info to help her out of a jam. Been a while since I was in the know about these things, so tell me, what’s the price for all that? You mentioned a blowjob. You got stamina, but I got talent. Balance that out, I’m thinkin’ it’ll take more than the usual ten, fifteen minutes. We’ll give it twenty. So I can manage my time, is there more?”
I wasn’t even done talking before I learned his eyes could spark fire too.
I also learned he was in the mood to play, that being, playing me at my own game.
And doing it better.
He dipped his face close, his voice low. “Storms get me the blowjob, brown eyes. I get the intel you need, that buys me sinkin’ deep in wet pussy.”
I felt my nipples get harder at the same time something else happened to me that, if he was of a mind to take his payoff right then, he’d get what he wanted.
I hid this reaction and asked, “You want this all in one go, or you wanna spread payback out for a while?”
“Keep plenty of time open, Cher. I intend to earn a fuckuva lot more and draw it out collecting.”
I nodded, still keeping a lock on his eyes. “I get it. Girl like me, only payback expected for me to be able to give.”
That didn’t get me fire.
That got me ice.
“I hear you talk down about yourself one more time, Cher, shit will get extreme.”
That made me ice over.
“Do not hand me that crap, Merry. You come into my home and got no problem talkin’ about wet pussy right to my face tells me the woman you know me to be.”
He dipped his face even closer, to the point it felt like if I blinked, my lashes would sweep his in a butterfly kiss.
“Do not hand me your shit, Cher,” he growled. “That hang-up is yours, not mine. And how I know that is I made you come just finger fuckin’ you and talkin’ dirty in your ear, and it was the talk and not what my fingers were doin’ that took you there. I like that, a woman who can let go and let me give her that without gettin’ uptight and closin’ down on me. You liked it too, a fuckuva lot more than me. So don’t stand there handin’ me your shit when I know you’re wet for me now and I haven’t fuckin’ touched you.”
I refused to reply to that because he was right and I had no intention of confirming that information.
But it was then he hit me with a verbal blow, the intensity of which, not in my whole shitty-ass life I’d ever received.
“Christ, if I didn’t know you were worth it, I’d walk out the door and this would be done—all we got, over.”
I could stand.
I could stare.
But I couldn’t breathe.
Merry could.
He could also speak.
“Hope like fuck no one takes off with those storms while I’m gone. You think they will, move ’em into garage and leave the key under the mat. I’m switchin’ ’em out, Cher. I come back tonight and they’re done, I’ll find you, and I won’t be collectin’. I’ll be dishin’ it out, but you won’t get it until you beg for it and do that shit for a really long time.”
His words were lost on me.
I continued to stand.
I continued to stare.
But my lungs had started burning.
If I didn’t know you were worth it…
“When’s Ethan’s next sleepover?” Merry bit out.
“Friday,” I whispered. “But his friend’s comin’ here.”
“Fuck,” Merry clipped. “Find a time, babe. You don’t, payback’ll stack up and I’ll have to take personal days and hole up in a hotel with you for a week. And there’s not a doubt that stick-up-her-ass church lady your ex tied his shit to won’t appreciate you bein’ gone from your kid for a weeklong fuckathon.”
That was kind of funny as well as hot.
I still said nothing.
Merry fell silent and stared at me.
Then he dealt the second biggest verbal blow I’d ever received in my life.
“Christ, you’re pretty, even standin’ there plotting my murder.”
After that, he lifted a hand, grabbed me gentle but firm at my neck, yanked me up so my mouth hit his hard but brief, then he let me go.
“Later, babe,” he said, strolling to my door. He stopped in it, turned to me, and bid his farewell by saying, “You touch those storms only to put them in the garage.”
He closed the door on that.
I stood where he left me.
If I didn’t know you were worth it…
What was I worth?
What was I worth to Merry?

Blog Tour: Bleeding Love By: Harper Sloan

I've loved once. I gave everything that I had to that love. Blindly believing that nothing could ever take that feeling away from me. Away from us. And when my little world of happiness was ripped from my fingers, I felt a loss that still haunts me to this day.
Now I use that lingering grief as a shield to keep my heart from loving again. It's that fear that keeps me from letting anyone, except my daughter, get close enough to make it hurt. To make my heart bleed when I inevitably lose again.
Until the day I met Liam Beckett and everything I thought I had protected myself from was shoved back in my face.
He's on a mission to prove to me that a love worth having is a love worth fighting for.
Would it be wrong and possibly embarrassing to admit that when the ARC of Bleeding Love hit my kindle that I may have screamed like a teenage girl at her favorite boy band concert? Yes? No? Maybe?  Oh well I don’t care because that is exactly what I did when I saw that Liam Beckett was in my dirty minded little hands.  I may have petted my kindle a little and hissed when my husband came near and tried to take it away from me because his words “it’s official she’s lost her damn mind” may have been said as a prayer for patience and sanity. Can you tell that I was excited?

Now you know I love my man Cohen, yes I said my man, I am still trying to work out the visitation schedule with Dani though; but Liam Beckett oh my god he is going to have to share me with Cohen because I want a Liam of my own.  Hmmm... Cohen and Liam fighting over me, give me a second while I picture this… Damn I wish that would happen because Liam Beckett is one hot determined stubborn alpha male that left me changing my panties, remembering what it is to feel loved that you are the most important thing in the world and had me absolutely in love with him.  I never thought that the sons of my favorite Corps Security men would have me loving them more than I did their fathers but it’s true, their sons are even more bad ass, sexier, alpha, panty wetting, and everything we love in our book boyfriends.  I just love them period.

Bleeding Love was emotional, sexy, enthralling, and showed what the love of a good man can do in healing wounds.  I felt so much for Megan, she really broke my heart more than once when we learn of her past.  I loved how her daughter was her world and that while she wanted Liam she wanted to make sure her daughter would accept him, although it is quickly shown that she more than does.  I’m not going to give anything away but make overs, tea parties, and big tough alpha men make for some hilarious moments and sweet memories.  Liam knew he wanted Megan and he waited but when he couldn’t wait any more he still went in gently, well maybe not gently but he made me love him more and more with everything he would do.  He truly loved her.  And he is one smoking hot sexy alpha man, if you think his daddy was determined to win his mom you haven’t seen nothing yet.

I could go on and on about my love for Bleeding Love, Liam Beckett, Harper Sloan and a million other things, but I won’t.  What I will say is this.  This is one of the best books I have read this year, one that I have already reread since getting the ARC, and I can guarantee I will be reading it again in the future.  I love how Harper Sloan has continued the legacy of the Corps Security men that we all fell in love with, with their sons and daughters, and the way she has done it is beautifully.  You do not have to have read the Corps Security series or Unexpected Fate to read Bleeding Love, but I encourage you to do so, just so you get to meet the men we all loved and now their children who once again prove that love can overcome some of the hardest times and deepest pains.

His mouth leaves mine and with his hand still on my leg, he demands, “Dig your heels in deep, baby.”
I give him what he wants, but not because he told me to.  I give him what he wants because when his hand leaves my leg and pushes into the mattress, bringing his body up he goes even deeper into my body and those heels push hard.
Just as he demanded earlier, my hands go to his shoulders on my own accord and as he takes my body hard, my nails dig in with my heels still pushing hard against the small of his back.  Our eyes never leave each other’s probing gaze.  Never once do I take my eyes away from his, so full of lust that I know there isn’t an ounce of control left in his body.
He drops his head and I lift up to meet him in a kiss so sweet it doesn’t match the powerful way that he’s taking my body.  A kiss that gives me more than words ever could at this moment.  His hips slow and as his tongue rolls against mine, his hips start to take me in slow, deep rolls.  He doesn’t pull back, just rocks his hips against mine.
I push up and cry out when he slips even deeper.
His lips come from mine and his hooded eyes open a sliver.  “Feels like heaven,” he says softly.  “Everything, darlin’.  Feels like everything.”

Harper lives in small town Georgia just a short drive from her hometown of Peachtree City. She (and her 3 daughters) enjoy ruling the house they dubbed 'Estrogen Ocean', much to her husband’s chagrin. Harper has a borderline unhealthy obsession with books; you can almost ALWAYS find her with her eReader attached. She enjoys bad reality TV and cheesy romantic flicks. Her favorite kind of hero--the super alpha kind!

Harper started using writing as a way to unwind when the house went to sleep at night; and with a house full of crazy it was the perfect way to just relax. It didn't take long before a head full of very demanding alphas would stop at nothing to have their story told.

Book Tour: Fighting Shadows By: Aly Martinez

I come from a family of fighters. I always thought I’d follow in their shadows, becoming unstoppable in the ring. That changed the day I saved the life of a woman I loved, but could never have.
My brother hailed me as a hero, and my reward was a wheelchair.
Paralyzed, my life became an inescapable nightmare.
 Until I met her.
Ash Mabie had a heart-stopping smile and a laugh that numbed the rage and resentment brewing inside of me. She showed me that even the darkest night still had stars, and it didn’t matter one bit that you had to lie in the weeds to see them.
I was a jaded asshole who fell for a girl with a knack for running away. I couldn’t even walk but I would have spent a lifetime chasing her.
Now, I’m on the ropes during the toughest battles of my life.
Fighting the shadows of our past.
Fighting to reclaim my future.
Fighting for her.

I knew going into Fighting Shadows that this was going to be one that would make me feel all the feels, and I felt them intensely.  I had wanted to read Flint’s book ever since I finished Fighting Silence, but while I knew how emotional this would be I had forgotten how beautifully Ms. Martinez can make you just so invested in the words she writes, and how she can pull the emotions so easily from inside of you that her books find a little spot in your heart and stay there with no chance in ever leaving.  I devoured Fighting Shadows, I couldn’t walk away and I didn’t want to either.

The pain that Flint felt (both emotional and physical), the anger he had festering deep inside and the loss of the use of his legs had me crying for him, had me wanting to smack him when he would be an asshole, and had me laughing when a little of the old Flint would come through.  He had so much going on and no way to really channel all those emotions that he almost allowed that bitterness that was growing inside take over completely.

Ash was living in her own version of pain and hell but the way she wanted to make Flint smile or laugh and worked hard for it to happen showed how deep inside she was just as beautiful on the inside as the outside.  I felt for her past, the pain of what she was forced to do and the shame that followed.  I hated how Flint hurt her when that asshole side would come out.  I loved how she not only healed Flint but healed herself and others as well.  I really just loved Ash period, especially because she loved Flint.

I can’t wait for Quarry’s story to come out, I have a feeling that it is going to surpass both Fighting Silence and Fighting Shadows when it comes to the emotions it creates, the tears it will cause to shed, and every other emotion possible.  If you haven’t checked out this series yet please don’t wait because you do not want to miss out on these amazing books.

**Each book in the series can be read as a standalone**
 Excerpt:

“Hey, Flint? What time is it?” Quarry asked.

Ash’s smile actually slipped completely. For the briefest of seconds, she appeared almost ashamed.

I dragged my eyes away from her in order to answer his question, but as I looked at my wrist, I had no answer at all.

“Here,” she said as she pulled my watch from her pocket.

What. The. Fuck?

Quarry howled with laughter, and Ash chewed on her bottom lip.

“Explain,” I demanded, wrapping my watch back around my wrist and shoving my wallet in the front pocket of my hoodie.

Quarry filled in the blank. “She’s a pickpocket, dude. You should have seen her when she fell on your lap. It was so fucking fast. She straight-up stole that shit from you, and you had no fucking clue.”

“I didn’t steal it! I was gonna give it back,” she amended uncomfortably. “It was just a joke.”

A joke.

A. Fucking. Joke.

And just like that, I remembered why I didn’t laugh anymore.

“Was it funny? Stealing from the cripple? You get a good laugh out of that?” I snapped, spinning and rolling myself away. “You know, maybe my judgment of you wasn’t all that off to begin with. Like father, like daughter, I guess.” It was a low blow, but I felt completely betrayed by a woman I didn’t even know.

“Flint, wait. I wasn’t picking on the cripple!”

I fully realized that I had just used the term, but it enraged me that she’d had the audacity to repeat it back to me. Who the hell was this chick? I pushed a hand into my pocket, searching for my keys. Fuck the food. I’d leave her ass there. Hell, Quarry too if he didn’t get his ass to the car.

“Get in the car, Q!” I yelled, only to close my eyes and drop my chin to my chest when my hand never made contact on the keys. “Son of a bitch,” I said as I spun back around.

Quarry was laughing next to her, but Ash’s cheeks were bright red.

“Keys.” I snapped my fingers and opened my hand, palm up.

“Stop being a dick,” Quarry said, casually tossing an arm around Ash’s shoulders.

She didn’t budge as she held my glare.

“Keys,” I repeated, but she remained still.

“It was a joke.” Her chin began to quiver.

For fuck’s sake, I wasn’t in any kind of mood to deal with bullshit from some girl I didn’t even know and was quickly discovering I didn’t care to know, either.

Quarry’s eyes grew wide as she turned to him and buried her cries in his chest.

What the fuck, asshole! Q signed before rubbing his hands over her back.

Her shoulders shook as she let out a loud sob that shocked us both.

“Come on. Let’s sit down.” Q tried to guide her over to an empty table.

Ash refused to look up and tripped over one of the chairs.

“Shit,” Q said, catching her around the waist.

I was just about to roll my eyes when she glanced my way. He was still trying to get her back on her feet and over to a table when her tear-free, bright-blue eyes pointedly glanced in my direction. My head snapped back in surprise, but a smile grew on her face.

Ash was about to put on a show, and with that one look, she had invited me to have a front-row seat.

As she floundered all over Quarry, her hands slid between his pockets and her own. Every noise she made and each time she flailed covered up a jarring movement. She was keeping his mind too busy for it to process all the places she was touching him. Hell, I was only watching her and I could barely keep up.

There was no denying that it was entertaining, but I wasn’t willing to show her that. However, as she accidentally lifted her knee, catching Q in the balls, a laugh erupted from my throat. He cupped his crotch while she apologized profusely and pushed him toward the same chair he’d been dragging her to only seconds before. Just before he sat, Ash swung her arm out, unwinding Q’s belt from around his body before tossing it at me.

“Oh God. I’m so sorry!” she said as Quarry held a finger up to ask for a second to recover. She didn’t wait at all though. Instead, she walked over in my direction; her prideful smile grew with every step.

She pulled my keys out of her pocket and dropped them into my lap. They were quickly followed by Quarry’s phone, wallet, and house keys. Then she snagged his belt off the floor and tossed it over her shoulder.

“It had absolutely nothing to do with you being in a wheelchair. It was a joke and it wasn’t supposed to piss you off.”

“Hey!” Quarry yelled. “That was messed up. You did not have to knee me in the balls to prove a point to him.”

“Oh, that wasn’t to prove a point. That was for bullshitting me. You knew good and damn well that he wouldn’t find it funny,” she said without ever tearing her gaze from mine. “Look, I’m sorry. I don’t have a lot of friends. And I’ve mentally noted that pickpocketing might not be the best way to make new ones.” She shrugged. “Consider it a lesson learned.”

“Three burgers all the way, onion rings, and a shake?” the guy at the counter called out.

Ash arched an eyebrow. “You want it to go, or are we good?”

I didn’t have to drop my attitude. Sure, she’d apologized, but while I might have had a short fuse, I also had a hell of a long burn. However, as she stood in front of me with her arms crossed over her chest and her blue eyes pleading for forgiveness, it magically fell away.

I swallowed hard. “No. We’re good.”

“You sure?” She leaned in, eyeing me warily, but her smile began to grow.

I swear to God it pulled at my lips as well. I fought it. But the harder I tried to keep it restrained, the bigger Ash’s grew. She was stealing my smile. The chick was good! Finally, with an eye roll, I let out a quiet chuckle, which seemed to appease her.

“Good. Now, help your brother get redressed and I’ll make the fancy sauce.” She waggled her eyebrows.

ARC Review: Ride Steady By Kristen Ashley

The ride of her life . . .
Once upon a time, Carissa Teodoro believed in happy endings. Money, marriage, motherhood: everything came easy---until she woke up to the ugly truth about her Prince Charming. Now a struggling, single mom and stranded by a flat tire, Carissa's pondering her mistakes when a vaguely familiar knight rides to her rescue on a ton of horsepower.

Climb on and hold tight . . . In high school, Carson Steele was a bad boy loner who put Carissa on a pedestal where she stayed far beyond his reach. Today, he's the hard-bodied biker known only as Joker, and from the way Carissa's acting, it's clear she's falling fast. While catching her is irresistible, knowing what to do with her is a different story. A good girl like Carissa is the least likely fit with the Chaos Motorcycle Club. Too bad holding back is so damned hard. Now, as Joker's secrets are revealed and an outside threat endangers the club, Joker must decide whether to ride steady with Carissa---or ride away forever . . .

With every Kristen Ashley book that I read I always walk away with a gift, that gift being a lesson to be learned, a bit of knowledge that I may not have taken the time to time on, and a feeling that even during the dark times in our lives that if we hang on to the hope that we will get through it and come out the other side into the light.  Now that is a lot to just know will happen but if you have read any of her books you know that I speak from my heart when I say that these things are true.  Ride Steady was no exception, like all of her books there is a lesson to be learned and it was one that I will always remember.

Joker’s past is one that could have turned him into a different man, one that would have been completely different than the man he is today.  Let me try to elaborate without giving anything away.  He is not an angel by any means, but what he is, is a man who lived through hell, rose above it, became the man he is today by being who he always was in his heart and isn’t going to apologize for some of the things he has done to become that man.  Joker is talented, smart, has a huge heart, but he is also Chaos which means he is alpha, badass, take no shit type of man, in other words he is a man who is a man and acts like a man.

Clarissa was sweet, at times sassy, and I think the perfect balance of her sweet to Joker’s hard.  Her own life was in turmoil with her ex-husband and trying to take care of her infant son Travis.  She wasn’t weak, she had be beaten down emotionally but fought to pick herself back up to carry on for not just her but her son as well.  When some truths come to light, some women would have just walked away without looking back; but Clarissa made me proud by standing strong and not giving up.  I’m not going to lie I at first wasn’t sure if she was right for Joker, that thought lasted 2 seconds before even just a few pages in I was shown that she was the light Joker needed to his dark.

I loved seeing old friends from other books play a role in Ride Steady, it felt like one big old reunion and for some authors I hate to say it doesn’t tend to work but Kristen Ashley knows how to make her readers feel as if we ourselves are a part of the family and are welcome to join in on the fun.  Ride Steady was written only as Kristen Ashley can write, beautifully with a dash of alpha badass and lessons to be learned.   I can’t personally wait for more of our Chaos men, the women who love them and the lessons we will learn.  Congrats Kristen Ashley on yet another amazing book!
