I was given the incredible opportunity
to sit down and have some one-on-one face time with the attending authors at
the recent Houston event. It was a blast! I got to pick their brains for five

Today’s spotlight is Rebecca Donovan! You asked the
questions, she answered them. Enjoy!
What
inspired you to start writing?
I’ve always been a writer. I had a
winter off and decided to take a chance and write. Things just lined up and it
was a whim. I messed with it for a year and half before I self published.
What
are you planning to do next?
I just finished the stand alone book
called What If. I just submitted to a publisher who I’m signing with. It will
be out this fall. Then I’m going to start Jonathan’s trilogy it’s called The
Burning series. It’s the spinoff character from Barely Breathing. It’s going to
be a dark, violent, awful book. It’s not a love story, at all. Be afraid.
*insert laughter*
If
you could turn one of your books into a TV series or a movie, which one would
you choose?
I’m working with a production company.

Do
you have a dream cast?
I’d like it to be a fresh face where
that character is only attached to that actor.
What
inspired your characters?
I worked with teens, troubled teens,
out of college. I have a degree in Psychology. That’s where the abuse side of
it came from.
My characters are a little bit of me.
It’s easier if I write them this way. So a little bit of Emma is in me. A
little bit of Sarah is in me. But, I have to know my character before I get
started, so I develop their personalities. I have to know them inside and out,
their motives and personality before I can touch the paper. For example like
with What If I started developing the characters right when I got done with Out
of Breath like last July and I didn’t start writing it till September and I
still didn’t get it right till like December.
Do
you write every aspect down for them?
No, it’s all in my head. It’s in my
head. I plot things on a calendar, like the major points what’s going to happen,
so it’s chronological. It’s in pencil so I can erase things. Then I can connect
those organically.
I actually wrote What If out of order.
I’ve never written that way before. It was very intimidating to me cause I’m
very organized. What If is a completely different experience than writing the
Breathing series. I had to write from a twenty year old male’s point of view.
It was counter intuitive cause I’m a female. I wanted it to feel authentic.
Who
do you fangirl over?
I don’t. I let people live their life.
I can appreciate their product and what they do. Especially musicians. But, I
kind of just let them be. I’m afraid of what if I don’t like them. It’s very
cool when I do get to meet people. I just try to let them be.

Optimism seeps from every pore of my body. I truly believe what’s

and thorns in order to experience the beauty and intrigue others often pass by.
