One of my favorite authors is Victoria Vane. I have a deep fondness for historical romances. After all I did cut my romance reading on good old fashioned bodice rippers! Victoria Vane has written a wonderful series that takes place in Georgian England. It's fun, it's erotic, and it's romantic. At the center of it all is the Devil DeVere! He's the original bad boy, the original Jerk of My Dreams. Because let's face it, he's a jerk. He has his reasons, but yeah, he's a jerk. And we love him! Once the obstacles are out of his way, he takes what he wants and loves with all he has!

Review and Giveaway: Jewel of the East by Victoria Vane

I love happy endings. The guy the gets the girl. The girl gets her romantic fairy-tale ending. It’s just what the heart needs. Add into that a wounded warrior and I’m all over it!

Jewel of the East continues the story of friends formed in England in the 1700’s. A group of boys joined forces at their school and have remained friends as they’ve grown older. The exploits are legendary and their prowess as loves is unrivaled. But, just like any bad-boy, when they fall in love, they fall hard.

Simon Singleton is a lover, a poet and as bawdy as they come. His dad, tired of Simon’s antics, purchases a commission for him and sends him off to the army. Little do they know, this will forever alter Simon’s life. And not in a good way.

Simon is thought dead. He’s not. He’s just been held prisoner for six years. Those six years have changed him. Scared him. Those scars are not just on the outside, they’re on the inside as well.

Salime is just as scared. Her story is much more tragic. But she’s a remarkable woman. She’s made the best of her circumstances and has done everything she can to take care of herself. She’s honorable, desirable and beautiful on the inside and the outside.

Together Salime and Simon embark on a journey. She’s there to help Simon. But Simon ends up helping her just as much. Unfortunately things are not always easy. Sometimes they take some effort, a little heartache and whole lot of faith.

I loved this story from beginning to end. It tugged at my heartstrings, it made me believe in love and happily ever afters all over again.  I loved listening to the stories Salime told. Stories of another time, another place. Stories that will bring you to your knees. But the most amazing thing? The most amazing thing was watching what Simon did for Salime. It goes beyond the physical into the emotional.

Jewel of the East is a beautiful story of love and healing.

Review: Rowan's Lady by Suzan Tisdale

Suzan Tisdale is an amazing author who weaves stories that will have you laughing, crying, sitting on the edge of your seat waiting to see what happens next. The intrigue, mystery and romance contained in her pages will keep you up well past your normal bedtime as you can’t stop reading!

We have a “new” series from Suzan with the Clan Graham. Why is new in quotes you ask? Well, we actually met Rowan in the Clan MacDougall series. So, while this is his clan we’re now reading about, he’s not really new to us. We’ve met him before.

And like the Clan MacDougall, Clan Graham are proud and honorable highland warriors.

Rowan has lost his wife. The woman he loved. He lost her to the black death, the plague. He’s been left with a wee bairn to raise and two promises to keep. Promises to Kate, his wife. Promises made on her deathbed. Now, Rowan is an honorable man, but will he be able to keep both promises?

Arline has had a hard life. She’s been married before, yet she’s never felt love. Not the kind of love a man feels for his wife. Her dad is a jerk and uses her for his own gain. She’s alone in the world. But now, she has a purpose. It may be a temporary one, but it’s still a purpose.

I loved Rowan and Arline. I think this one is now my favorite of Suzan Tisdale’s stories.

Rowan is one of those men you hope you meet for your spouse. He’s handsome, fierce when he needs to be, soft and tender when called for, and always a gentleman. He tries to do the right thing, but makes mistakes. He’s strong enough to realize when he’s wrong and he’s not afraid to say I’m sorry.

Arline is the perfect heroine for Rowan. She’s strong willed, fierce when called to be, clever, and willing to learn from her mistakes. She doesn’t always act rationally but she does realize when she’s wrong and face it.

This story pulled at my hearstrings and made me feel like I was falling in love again! I laughed, I cried, I sat on the edge of my seat waiting to see what would happen. We got to see some of our old friends from Clan MacDougall. I loved seeing them again. We also meet some new people that will hopefully be in future stories.

I’m excited about getting more from Clan Graham and can’t wait to read them.

The Viscount's Vow by Collette Cameron

You know, it’s funny. London in the 1800’s is full of polite society. Act this way, be this way, dress this way. Anything that meet with the standards of polite society are shunned, made fun of, gossiped about, in general, thought to be less than everyone else.

Evangeline suffers from that problem. She’s part Roma, or gypsy. As a result those in polite society gossip about her and call her loose. Even though she’s followed all the rules, the men continue to say she loose and the women are just harridans! It’s awful!

Ian has come to London to avenge the death of his brother and father. He’s been told by his step-mother and sister that Evangeline is responsible for their deaths AND she stole away his sister’s beau. Due to his honor, he ends up married to Evangeline and risking everything to protect her.

In many ways Ian was lovable. While I did love him, I also wanted to smack him on the head! He needed a serious wake-up call. He did get that wake-up call unfortunately it came a bit too late. Part of his lovability was his honor. He wanted to believe in the goodness of others. Part of the reason I wanted to smack him upside the head was his ability to believe in the good of others. That ability to believe in the goodness of others cost both Ian and Evangeline.

Evangeline was an interesting character. Her Roma heritage managed to give her a positive outlook when most of us would have only expected the worst. It also gave her the ability to look at what was going on around her and listen with her heart. Unfortunately it also cost her dearly.

Many lessons can be learned from the characters in this book. Look for the good in others. Watch the actions of others to learn their true intent. Forgive each other. Love with your whole heart.

I really enjoyed this story. Collette Cameron has quickly become one of my favorite historical romance authors!

Review: Matthew (The Circle Eight #1) by Emma Lang

Matthew is the oldest of the Graham siblings. After their parents are murdered and the youngest turns up missing, Matthew takes over as head of the family. He’s doing everything he can to keep the family together and ranch going.

One thing Matthew does, is go to Houston to extend the family ranch with a land claim. Only one problem, Matthew has to be married. So, Matthew does what anyone else would do, he lies. He says his wife is Hannah. Now he just has to find a wife, named Hannah and in 30 days. No problem!

This was a fun read. It started off with a bang and kept on going. I was hooked from the first chapter and couldn’t put it down. The romance between Matthew and Hannah was sweet and very realistic to the time they were living in.  

They had to deal with so many things, sibling rivalry, the missing youngest brother, threats on their land, dishonest neighbors, and of course the biggest one of all, getting to know each other.

The suspense in the book was the right amount. It added to the story and didn’t distract from the main focus of the story. The periphery characters were awesome and only added to the story.

I’m looking forward to the others in this series. This is a great historical cowboy romance.
