Review: Disclosure Series by R.E. Hunter

She was running toward her future. He was running from his past. When their worlds collided, nothing could prepare them for what was to come.

Desperate to overcome her painful past, Embry Jacobs searches for a fresh start in law school. A man is the last thing she wants. Or needs. Until she meets Luke Brody.

Luke has demons of his own. He wants nothing more than to move on, but when Embry walks into his life, his mistakes come back to haunt him.

Secrets and lies spiral out of control as they struggle with their forbidden love. When everything comes undone, can the damage be unbroken?

I did not, did NOT, want to put this book down. I was entranced from the start. But of course as in life, I was faced with many interruptions; one being of the six year old variety. So I found myself going to great lengths to find some much needed solitude and finish this book. I even took to hiding in the children's bathtub with the curtain drawn, lights off, and hoping beyond hope they would not spy the glow coming from my phone. Why was I reading on my phone? Because it's easier to conceal in my pocket. Whereas mom walking through the house toting her Kindle is like wearing a neon sign that blares DISTURB ME with an arrow pointing directly at me. So aside from the cold from the tub seeping through my clothes, I settled in to finish reading about hot, sexy, seductive Luke. Professor hot, sexy, seductive Luke and his taboo romance with Bree.

I honestly fell in love with BOTH characters. Embry, Bree, is a twenty-five year old law student. She is dedicated to her future and is constantly working hard to maintain her high GPA and keep her scholarship. She’s smart and strong. Bree may not see the strength in herself, but I could. She’s got a past that has left marks on her emotional well being. But when she meets Luke, he makes her feel safe and secure. She finally takes a chance at a relationship and love again.

Luke, oh my Lord where do I start? He is intense and seductive. I love a man who looks you in the eye while charming the pants off of you. But he’s patient. He doesn’t want to rush things. He wants to take the time to get to know Bree. Luke cares for her and takes care of her. He’s a nurturer with a sexy, southern accent. Seriously, I could go on and on and on and… You get the point.

I could not get enough of these two together. They absolutely fit! But, Luke has kept something from her. It divides them romantically for a while. My heart ached to see them apart. They were hurting, themselves and at some point each other. When they do get back together of course my heart rejoiced. I was elated. We’re on the road to happiness here. But oh no, no no no. R.E. Hunter couldn’t leave it there. Luke has one more secret he’s kept from Bree. A pretty big one. It brought Bree’s world to an absolute halt. My heart split and pieces of it fell into the pit of my stomach. I was literally in tears. As if that wasn’t enough, Ms. Hunter has one more curve ball to throw. The last page in the epilogue…the last two sentences…broke me. I was left an emotional wreck. I was crying for Bree and Luke and the state of their relationship. I was angry at the possibilities over what the last two sentences could bring in the next book. In case you haven’t guessed by now, yes, it’s a cliffhanger ending. But a very, very GOOD cliffhanger. A double cliffhanger! One of the best ones I’ve read.

R.E. Hunter did an amazing job evoking feelings in me, the reader. I felt every sensation there was to feel in this book. Every caress, every heated stare, the frustration and anger; I felt all of it. I love when an author does that to me.

I truly cannot wait for the sequel. Ms. Hunter has made a fan girl out of me.
This is romance at its best. Unbroken is sexy, seductive, love-beats-all, we’re-in-it-together, can’t-be-stopped, heartwarming romance. R.E. Hunter has outdone herself with this sequel. By the time I read the words “The End”, my heart was full and my emotions spent. Dare I say, getting to the end of Luke and Embry’s journey was much like the euphoric release one experiences during the big “O”. The slow burn and seduction of a well told story. The spike in adrenaline during the climactic rise. Then finally, the pay off, the satiated, toe tingling rush coursing through you when reaching that ultimate high. In my head, I was screaming ‘yes, yes, yes!’ These two amazing, strong people held together and as a team confronted and defeated the obstacles in their lives. This is love.

“I don’t work without you, Embry. I never have, and I never will.”

When we last saw Luke and Embry, I had no clue how they were going to recover or which direction their story was going to go. My heart was hurting for them, my mind going crazy with all the possible scenarios. I was ecstatic that we didn’t have to wait long to see them find their way back to each other. That’s not to say that Ms. Hunter didn’t twist me in knots. On the contrary, my stomach and nerves pitched in quite a few places. Embry had to learn to let go of the hurt and decide to trust Luke again. Luke was noticeably sorry for all the pain he caused her and tried his damndest to make it up to her. Then there were the outside forces working against them. Old demons that needed to be dealt with. Her past. His. At one point, my heart was in my throat. Unbroken kept me on edge till the very end.

He’d broken her down, shattered her, then put her back together again.

It is rare when a sequel can surpass the first book, equal footing yes, but to exceed book one doesn’t happen often. R.E. Hunter has accomplished that feat. If you haven't yet picked up this series, what are you waiting for? Get to it!

“My home’s right here, Embry…As long as you’re there, I’m home.”
