Review: Adjournment (Fate Series #1) By Emersyn Vallis

When Sidney Chandler chooses to leave home she walks away from her life as she knows it… her family…

Him…

She stepped back, allowing them all to heal… move on… live without her…

Now at the age of twenty nine and almost a decade behind her, she is a master of disguise. Long gone is the timid girl who lived blinded by the ideas of love.

Until fate decides to intervene and the one man she has struggled to evade at all costs is pushed back into her life. He knows the real girl behind the façade, only he can pull her out of her self-imposed exile… breathing life back into her cold, protected heart.
Fate will do what fate wants and Sidney’s choices are no longer her own… but were they ever really hers to begin with?

Adjournment starts off slowly, I almost put it down because it took me a little while to really get into it but once I did I couldn’t put it down.  Be prepared to go on an emotional rollercoaster ride.  One minute you will be laughing, the next you will wish you could heal past hurts.  There is the perfect balance of everything I love about a book, there was hilarity, angst, a bit of mystery, and of course steamy sex.  That balance is hard to make perfect but the author nailed it.  Simon and Sydney may be the main characters but even the secondary characters have a presence in the book that takes it up a notch.

I am very impressed that this is the author’s first book, it usually takes an author a while before they find the correct formula to paint the picture of the story where the reader is able to easily picture it in their mind.  Emersyn Vallis has impressed me with not just her writing style, but also with her ability to write a story that hooks you and leaves you wanting more.  I think that people won’t be disappointed if they pick up Adjournment, just remember give it a chance, once it gets it’s hooks into you don’t plan on doing anything else but reading until you finish because you will not want to stop for even a minute.
