ARC Review: HIM By Sarina Bowen & Elle Kennedy

They don’t play for the same team. Or do they?

Jamie Canning has never been able to figure out how he lost his closest friend. Four years ago, his tattooed, wise-cracking, rule-breaking roommate cut him off without an explanation. So what if things got a little weird on the last night of hockey camp the summer they were eighteen? It was just a little drunken foolishness. Nobody died.

Ryan Wesley’s biggest regret is coaxing his very straight friend into a bet that pushed the boundaries of their relationship. Now, with their college teams set to face off at the national championship, he’ll finally get a chance to apologize. But all it takes is one look at his longtime crush, and the ache is stronger than ever.

Jamie has waited a long time for answers, but walks away with only more questions—can one night of sex ruin a friendship? If not, how about six more weeks of it? When Wesley turns up to coach alongside Jamie for one more hot summer at camp, Jamie has a few things to discover about his old friend...and a big one to learn about himself.

Warning: contains sexual situations, skinnydipping, shenanigans in an SUV and proof that coming out to your family on social media is a dicey proposition.

I love a great hockey book, I love a great M/M book even more, but what I love even more is when the two genres are combined into one.  HIM had me from the very start, I absolutely loved how we not only got to see Jamie and Ryan’s relationship in the present, but also glimpses at how they were as best friends in the past.  You wanted Jamie and Ryan to not only work through what caused them to drift apart all those years ago but you want these two to be together as a couple; because you can just tell these two are perfect for one another.

Jamie is straight, or is he?  Well he does have a female friend with benefits that I personally wanted to vag punch on more than one occasion.  Why you may ask?  Well it is because I wanted Jamie and Ryan together, even if Jamie didn’t know at first he would be attracted to guys as well, and well she was kind of bordering on pathetic and clingy if you ask me.  Yep he is Bi but once his eyes are opened I don’t see him ever going back to the females.  Ryan is the prankster, the one who you can dare to do just about anything and he would have done it.  He is also the one who I think has the bigger heart of the two, I say this because he is worried that for Jamie it isn’t what it is for him, finally being with the man he has been in love with for years.  I loved not only the chemistry these two shared, but the friendship, the history and the love they had for each other.  And for me that is what will make a relationship stay strong and last, when it is more than just about the sex (oh hush yeah I know I love me some sexy times but I am trying to be serious here people) but about a connection that only grows stronger with time.

The authors did an amazing job in flowing everything so smoothly that you can’t tell that two authors not just one wrote this.  A lot of times you can see the switch up because the styles aren’t the same or their writing style is different but Ms. Bowen and Ms. Kennedy did a beautiful job at writing HIM and making this reviewer fall in love with Jamie and Ryan.  I hope we get to read more of these authors working together in the future because these two ladies are two of my favorites.

Houston Author Event Interview & Giveaways: Day 8 Spotlight on Carey Heywood

I was given the incredible opportunity to sit down and have some one-on-one face time with the attending authors at the recent Houston event. It was a blast! I got to pick their brains for five minutes each. Thanks to all of you who submitted questions, I was armed and prepared. ~Nadine

We’ll be featuring a different author and their interview here for the next several days. Make sure you scroll to the bottom and enter the AMAZING Rafflecopter for your chance to win a SIGNED paperback from each attending author and keep scrolling for another chance to win various swag from the event. If you submitted a question on either My Secret Romance’s Facebook page or Oh Whimsical Me’s Facebook page, you get extra entry points.

Today’s spotlight is Carey Heywood! You asked the questions, she answered them. Enjoy!

Magan Vernon specifically wanted me to ask you…if you will make a Facebook fanpage for your husband?
No! No, I will not! I will not make a Facebook fanpage for my husband because after y’all fan-girled all over him at Savannah he was impossible to freakin’ live with. So, NO, that will not be happening. In fact you may never see him again. I’m not threatening his life, I just may never bring him to another book signing. He. Was. Impossible. To. Live. With. He asked me after the fact if he should look into modeling. And…um…because I love him and I appreciate honesty in people I told him he should first look into a gym membership. You’re allowed to say that to your spouse. (Note: After the interview I asked to see a pic of her hubs. Magan Vernon, where do we start the petition to get that man his fanpage? :D)

What inspired you to start writing?
I’ve always been an avid reader and I started writing my first book after a massive hangover, book hangover not the alcohol like induced kind, of a trilogy I had just finished reading and I went to go buy another book and nothing was speaking to me for whatever reason at that moment. So I just sort of had the idea what if I wrote something that I would like to read. And that’s where I started writing my first book.

What are you planning to do next?
Sawyer Says, a side character spin-off from the Him and Her series comes in May and I’m finishing my first draft of a future series; the first book in a new series that will come out in July.

If you could turn one of your books into a TV series or a movie, which one would you choose?
Better. I think Better would be an amazing movie.

What inspired your characters?
Well one thing, there is a piece of me in every single book. Like, Sarah habitually spins a thumb ring and that is 100% me. Aubrey in Better is a picky eater and does not enjoy shellfish and that is me. And Sawyer is quite hysterical and I assume that’s me cause I like to think I’m quite funny.

Is your husband in any of the books?
Well…you know what there…I could…he is…okay so she read one of my books (looks to her assistant for the day) and um…I’m not going to say that. Never mind, I’m not totally saying that. Stop it! Okay…okay well I’ll say it. She called me out and said Oh My God that’s like from your bedroom and I may or may not when my husband’s about to come tell him to get it get it. (I could not stop laughing!)

Damn those chimes! I was having so much fun and sad to see my time was up. Visit Carey at the links below and check out Sawyer Says coming next month!
