Sick.
That’s what this story did to me.
It made me sick. Not in the I-want-to-hurl-it-was-bad
kind of way. Oh no, not that. Nope.
This story made me sick in that gnawing, gut clenching, I know my heart
is going to get broken kind of way. From
the beginning, the very first line, I knew Kendall Ryan was setting me up to
hurt. But, I went ahead and dived into
the story and got completely caught up in it anyway.
It had been a month since I’d seen him, but my body still knew when he was near.
Emerson, Emmy, Clarke is a twenty-two
year old southern sweetie. She leaves
the comforts and familiarity of Tennessee behind and makes the bold move to New
York to take on the position of assistant to the head of a high profile
modeling management company. Fiona Stone
is a hard-ass, condescending, cold-hearted, manipulative bitch. Seriously!
She’s made my list of characters that disgust me. She treats Emmy like crap, but Emmy refuses
to tuck tail and run. A perk of her job,
as Status Model Management only represents men, is she’s constantly surrounded
by deliciously, hot males. Ben Shaw is
Fiona’s golden boy. He’s hard working,
dedicated, mouth watering hot and he’s into Emmy. He has to tread lightly though because Fiona
has this twisted fixation with him.
Emmy is surrounded by tall, skinny,
beautiful people. She herself is short
and curvy. Being in the industry she’s
in makes her doubt herself at times.
When Ben looks at her though, all he sees is a beautiful, smart, sweet
woman. He makes her feel cherished and
desired. It was fun watching these two
hook up. What started out as flirty,
quickly turned to heated undeniable passion.
Ben tried to keep their relationship light as he doesn’t do commitments,
but Emmy is unlike any woman he’s ever known. She’s caring, nurturing and doesn’t care about
his fame or money. Before long, they
both fall hard for each other. But, there’s
Fiona. Conniving, deceitful Fiona is
always lurking in the background. Her
connection with Ben doesn’t sit well with Emmy; it’s a little too possessive for
a client/manager relationship. She knows
there’s something Ben is keeping from her, but deep down is afraid to know
exactly what it is.
Ugh!
I wanted to scream at times and tell Ben to man the fuck up! Yeah, I get he has history with Fiona, but
that’s what it is. HISTORY! Tell her to take her overbearing, neurotic ass
somewhere else cause you ain’t having it!
By placating her, he risks losing it all with Emmy.
Working It
kept me well enthralled from start to finish.
Keep in mind the story is far from over when you get to the end. While it doesn’t leave off on a huge
cliffhanger, it did leave off frustratingly open for more. I have a feeling things are going to get really good in the next one and I’m sure
it will have me cursing up a storm.
Working it is book 1 in the Love by
Design series.
