Both Axel and Isabelle didn’t know the truth behind the circumstances that kept them apart and because of that when they were finally brought together again each believed the worst of the other person.  Isabelle suffered through an abusive marriage because of what she had been led to believe about Axel.  Axel had this hatred for Isabelle because he thought she just never cared and left him.  Two people who honestly loved each other very much were kept apart by evil selfish assholes.

Isabelle was understandably upset when she sees Axel again, hell I personally would have suffered a nervous break down if that had been me, luckily she had good friends to protect her emotionally until she could come to terms with the situation.  Axel may want to choke Isabelle but would never physically harm her in any way, and when he finds out the circumstances behind why he has been called to protect her, his eyes are opened a little.  When the entire truth is revealed, its almost heart breaking because they could have been happy and together this entire time.

Axel is the first book in the Corps Security series.  This series has the potential to be a very good one if done right.  There was a lot going on in this book so at times it made it hard to really get into, but I enjoyed it at the same time.  I loved the introduction to the characters in this series and hope that the remaining books will be able to center more on each of their stories than trying to cram them all into one book.
