Review: Plus One by Cristal Ryder

This is a little novella, and it is a really good one!  The buildup to Karen and Rob’s experience is exquisite and the club sounds both intimidating and sinfully delightful.  There’s not only the interaction between Karen and Rob to keep your attention, but some action all around adding to the heated and exciting atmosphere of the book.

Getting to Karen and Rob in particular, they start off in the pool before moving to a room, but this room isn’t very private.  They pass other rooms on their way and one of them gives them some ideas.  In their little room, they explore each other and end up with an audience.  However, part of that audience ends up participating.

There’s no definitive HEA, which I always prefer, but I do get the impression of a HFN at the very least.  I only hope that the author might write more stories about this club for other patrons or something.  Such a great setting that I only wanted to see more of!

Close Contact Spotlight!

Today we have Cristal Ryder back on the blog with Cassandra Carr and Cindy Carr talking about her new anthology that's soon to be released, Close Contact. Please welcome her by leaving a comment!

I'm so happy to be back at My Secret Romance. This time I'm bringing some friends with me. Cassandra Carr and Cindy Carr. I'll let you guys do the math on the same last names ;)

This my second anthology with Cassandra. Our first was Public Displays of Eroticism with Sybarite Seductions and it was received really well. So well, in fact, that we decided to do another. Jami couldn't be with us this time around so Cindy stepped in.

Close Contact is a spin on sports and very sexy. We hope you check it out and enjoy reading it as much as we did writing!

Hard-hitting contact sports don't have the only sexy professional athletes. Does the strength and grace of golf, tennis and fencing instructors extend to lustier activities? Find out as they turn these classic sports into full-contact steamy sessions.

Service Ace by Cassandra Carr
Callum Giovanni's professional tennis career is over. He's trying not to be bitter about it, even though it means teaching women more interested in not messing up their hair and nails than a good service. Then Adriana Macy appears, claiming to be a novice, but Callum knows there's more to her than meets the eye. How far does she want to take their personal match? The ball's in her court.

Up to the Hilt by Cynthia Carr
Olympic fencing wunderkind Sebastian Como is Rina Rogers’ last resort to find someone who can instruct her toward her own Olympic medal. All her other trainers have balked, saying she is too impulsive, too unmanageable, too everything. Sebastian recognizes her talent and tells her he'll take her all the way. But does that include his bed?

Playing Through by Cristal Ryder
A relationship is the last thing Lexie is looking for, especially one with a hot cowboy wanting golf lessons. It's all she can do to keep her focus on the game and off Jay’s hard muscled body and devilishly sexy face. But the more lessons they have, the farther his sexy drawl gets under her skin.

Does he feel the attraction too? Mother Nature forces them to seek shelter as the power of nature lets loose around them. Will they go primal and unleash their attraction for one another amidst the rawness of the Rocky Mountains?

Excerpts:

Cristal Ryder's Playing Through

Get a grip, Lexie. He’s a student.
She bit her lower lip and tried not to let her thoughts go to the erotic, but she feared it was way too late for that. Another quick glance at him, and damn if he wasn’t looking at her. He laid his arm along the back of their seats. Under her pale peach golf shirt, the flesh between her shoulders rippled, anticipating his touch. Would he run his fingers down her spine or up to her neck and into her hair? She felt the presence of his hand at her back as clearly as if he touched her. She willed him to and was disappointed when he didn’t.
The sun went behind a cloud, and she glanced up. Doppler had shown a chance of rain or thunderstorms. Wouldn’t that be great—a crashing storm during the lesson would really screw things up.
“It’s beautiful out here, isn’t it?” His words startled her, but oh how she loved to hear him speak.
Keep talking, cowboy. “Yes, it is.”
“Have you been west before?”
The magic of his voice cast some kind of sexual spell over her until she could barely think straight, let alone form cohesive words. “Ah, no.” Lexie concentrated on her driving and her words, which seemed to vanish on her tongue. “First time.”
“What brought you out here?”
“Fluke, really. They offered me a position and I was ready for a change.”
“Lucky me.”
She glanced at him to see if he was teasing and nearly swallowed her tongue. His dark gaze bored into her. Her intuition screamed he would be receptive if she just said the word.
Word.

Cassandra Carr's Service Ace

Cal and Adriana enjoyed a fun dinner, their flirting progressing as the meal went on. She needed to make her move, especially since Cal seemed to share her interest. He paid for the meal and they left. Once at the car, he handed her in and then got in the other side. Now or never. She reached over the center console and palmed his cock.
“Shite!” He looked over, his eyes wide.
“Look, I’m not normally this forward, but I want you.” Unable to hide a small smile as his cock swelled in her hand, she looked away. “Well, for more than your tennis expertise.”
“Are you sure?”
“Do you often have women who don’t want you for sex stroking your dick?”
“I don’t often have women stroking my dick for any reason.”
She faced him. “Really?”
“Really.” He swallowed.
“I guess it’s both of our lucky days then.”

Cindy Carr's Up to the Hilt

Finally, a man who could be no other than Sebastian Como, dressed in a black velvet warm-up suit, strolled out the door. “Holy shit,” she whispered. He was gorgeous. Sex on a spoon. About six-three with dark, curly hair, brilliant green eyes, and a killer smile. Plus, he appeared to be in his mid-twenties. He was awfully young to be a master fencer with his own academy, but she knew his story. Everyone in the business knew about him—boy genius, Olympic star and all, but the photo in the school's website hadn't done him justice by a long shot.
He needed a new photographer. Badly.
She needed air.
He met her halfway across the floor and shook her hand. Zings of heat flew up her arm.
Man candy. Yum. But she couldn't let anything get in her way of success. His royal hotness would have to be stuck in her back pocket until she had time to explore him. Slowly. Very slowly.
Their gazes collided like lasers. Wars could start that way.

My Review:
I read Public Display of Eroticism a few months ago and found that I really enjoyed considering I'm not a big novella reader. So when Cristal told me she had another one coming out, I agreed to read it. The three spicy sports stories rolled into an anthology makes for fun and erotic reading session!

Cassandra Carr's tennis star, Cal, was forced to retire early from his career because of an injury. He's now teaching at a ritzy sports club giving lessons to snobby woman when a beautiful woman who isn't like the others walks in and catches him off guard. Adriana claims she needs lessons, but her swings are perfect and she nails the ball each time...so what issue is she having?

Cindy Carr's fencing guy, Sebastien, is training Rina, who wants to compete in the Olympics. She's tough and has what it takes. The only problem? She's got a knack for mouthing off which prevents her from getting a real workout in from her past trainers. Well, her new trainer knows exactly what she needs to tame that sassy mouth of hers- him.

Cristal Ryder's sexy golfer, Jay, not only can swing a stick, but he can tie a rope too. He's a cowboy, he's hot and he's taking golf lessons from Lexie, who can't keep her eyes off of him. Ready to end the day and get away from this strong male with a southern accent, a rain storm stops them in their midst and Lexie has no choice but to wait out the storm with Jay.

Who the hell knew fencing, tennis and golf could be so hot? Surely not I!

I was so surprised with this anthology! Two sports I'm not big on are golf and fencing, and after reading those two sports stories made me want to give it a try. The three ladies who are part of this antho had me quite entertained during my quick read. I found myself smiling and breathing heavy- both at the same time! Close Contact is flirtatious and sensual that will satisfy your craving for a quick and sexy read.

Review: Rock-Hard Heat by Cristal Ryder

Rock Hard Heat is my first taste of author Cristal Ryder and boy oh boy was it sweet!

Colorado has a special place in Jenna's heart. She's drawn to the beautiful lush outdoors and the Rockie Mountains. With plans to go to Colorado anyway, she heads there early in hopes of seeing the man who has also anchored her heart to Colorado- sexy cowboy Chet.

Chet is one hellava cowboy! He is undeniably head over heels in love with Jenna. He wants her by his side once and for all and he sets out to prove it to her.

I was quickly drawn to Jenna and Chet's story, they have a chemistry that will make you wish you had one similar to it. This story wrangled me in making me completely forget it was a short story until it ended. It's well written and enough plot for a novella to make it a definite worthy read. I will be looking to get the first book, Elemental Heat, so I can read more about them and how they came to be.

Surprise Giveaway with Cristal Ryder!

While putting this Sweet, Sexy, Scorching Giveaway Hop together, it opened my eyes to new authors. There were many I had never heard of and now I cannot wait to read their books. I just wish I could read all these new books at the same time! *sigh* If only that could happen.

One author I came across is Cristal Ryder. Not only do her books look sinfully delicious, but she is an extremely sweet woman. I was blind sided by how easy (and willing!) she was to talk to! It was delightful surprise. They way she took the time to answer each question thoroughly makes me want to read her books even more. But it wasn't just the blog hop stuff, it was the genuine kindness in her words that I liked so much.  Below is a guess who snippet from one of her male heroes and an excerpt to her new book Rock-Hard Heat, out today. Enjoy!

Can you figure out who I am? Let’s see if I can stump you. Okay, I’ll give you the first hint, an easy one.  A gimmie for you, I’m a guy that loves women. But I’ve been burned and I’m a little cautious of you gals. You can be so soft and sweet and warm one minute, and then like a spitting cat the next. Totally confusin’. Now to be a bit cryptic – make you think a little *evil smile* I have two items of clothin’ that I wear every day and they do help with what I do. Ride. Oh and one can get slung onto the bedpost. Think about it.
I make my home in the wild and remote west where Mother Nature can be kind or cruel. It tests me and my lovely heroine at one point. There is a little bit of family intrigue that dates way back when and has to do with that fine precious metal – gold. We have to ride into the mountains to see these places my ancestors prospected.
I’m not a fan of talking about how I look, but I’ve been asked. So, all I’ll give ya is I’m tall, fairly athletic and would have no problem lifting my darlin’ into my arms. What I do for a living keeps me fit and muscles toned.
Front of a roarin’ fire or a blanket in the snow. Take your pick. I’ll have no trouble keepin’ ya warm.
Do you know me yet?

Sounds scrumptious, doesn't he? If you want to know more about this hero, check out the  Who Am I ? link.

It had been a glorious couple of days before Chet had to head down and get back to real life. She smiled and enjoyed the heat that bloomed in her belly, remembering their first lovemaking session after being apart for so many months. Desire for her cowboy never failed to heat her blood and she longed for him now. She wanted him with her in the soft mountain water, which caressed her skin so seductively.

The grime and dust of her prospecting activities at Chet’s great-great-uncle Chester’s old claim sluiced off in the creek’s current and left her skin pink and tingly. She wasn’t ready to get out yet and closed her eyes, drifting lazily.

Chet couldn’t confirm when he’d be back and Jenna had gotten used to staying here on her own when he wasn’t with her. At first, he’d been hesitant to leave her, but she insisted and he’d learned a while ago how stubborn she could be. So they compromised. He made sure she was checked on daily by a ranch hand, had taught her to shoot and left the rifle by the door. The radio was primed in case she needed immediate help and his dog Belle stayed with her. All was good with the world.

Letting her legs drop, Jenna curled her toes into the creek bed and stood. The water was deep, just covering her breasts. They bobbed at the surface, buffeted by little eddies of current. She tipped back, ducked her head in the water and swept her long red tresses out of her face. When she stood, it hung to her shoulders and fanned out on the surface of the water like a halo.

A sense of wellbeing filled her and her heart swelled with happiness. Never had such a strong sensation of belonging, being home, been so sharply etched within her. She knew she had been born on the wrong side of the continent. It was here she should have grown up and experienced life, not back east. Jenna inhaled the crisp mountain air and gazed at the bush around her. It was just as beautiful in the summer as in the winter. Her love for this land grew daily and it truly pained her to think of leaving it. And Chet.

She brushed the disturbing thought aside. It was a while before she’d be packing her bags. Jenna’s gaze took in the brand new sluice box. Chet had replaced the broken-down one with a much more modern setup here at the creek and farther up-river where the tree came down. Chester’s old one was being restored and eventually would be donated to a local history museum. She was determined to find his secret claim and Chet had humored her all the way. Jenna smiled and excitement bubbled inside her at the news she had to tell him.

The gurgle of water over the dam of rocks mixed delightfully with the birds singing in the trees. Jenna was at peace. She sighed and shivered with a slight chill from the cool mountain water. Goose bumps rose along her flesh and her nipples hardened, aching with the cold. She cupped her breasts in her palms, the hard nubs pressing against her flesh. This time the shiver that rippled through her wasn’t from being chilled.

“Chet, when are you going to get here?” she whispered to the silence of the surrounding trees.

“What’s the matter, darlin’? Miss me?”

Jenna spun around, sending a splash of water in a sparkling arc. The wonderful, sexy drawl of Chet’s voice slipped around her like hot honey and she warmed under his gaze. He stood on the little rocky beach where they had made love on the bank of chilly snow last winter. She couldn’t help the smile that broke wide on her face when their eyes met.

“Chet.” His name fell from her lips in a breathy sigh.

He had one booted foot propped on a large rock, his elbow rested on his knee. The faded, worn jeans tightened over his muscular thighs and Jenna’s breath snagged in her chest. She let her gaze roam over the typical plaid cowboy shirt which also strained across his powerful chest and shoulders. He poked his cowboy hat back with a finger and winked at her. She knew what lay beneath those clothes and she hungered for him. He was a feast for her eyes and she needed feeding.

“Now then, this sure is a sight to behold. It’s a damn good thing I decided to come myself and not send Blake to check on you.”

“I’d say I have to agree with that, cowboy.”

“Last time I checked we didn’t have mermaids in these parts. Just goes to show you can learn somethin’ new every day.” He straightened and started to unbutton his shirt. “Want some company?”

“I thought you’d never ask.”

Since Rock-Hard Heat was released today, I will being giving away a copy of it from Ellora's Cave! Please fill out the Rafflecopter form. It makes my like much easier when choosing a winner.  The contest will run one week. Thank you and good luck!  a Rafflecopter giveaway

Excerpt from Back to Nature:
We make the short drive to the lake and park the car. Dmitri takes my hand as we stroll around the perimeter.

He soon pulls me out onto one of many scenic points overlooking the lake, and places me in front of him so we’re both facing the pristine, peaceful view. His erection nestles into my bottom as his hands steal underneath my shirt, kneading my breasts. Dmitri pulls the shirt up to expose me and I dart a quick glance around, wondering if the hikers at the other overlooks around the lake can see me. I lean my head back on his shoulder like I know he wants me to as he pinches and tweaks my nipples.

Turning me around, he grabs me and lifts me to his pelvis briefly before setting me back on my feet. He leans down and re-wets the front of my shirt as he sucks on my nipples again. I moan, grabbing Dmitri’s head. A twig snaps and I look around him to see another couple about fifty feet away. They avert their eyes and walk past the overlook. As the exhibitionist in me comes alive, I grin and Dmitri’s head moves to my other breast.

Sweet, Sexy Scorching Giveaway Hop- Cassandra Carr

Untitled-42

Hi ladies, I'm Buffy with My Secret Romance Book Reviews, and I've had the great pleasure of reading your book.  I've read all kinds of romance books and anthologies, but this one took me to new places in the best of ways.  I'm really excited to get to talk to y'all, thanks so much for taking the time to sit and chat with me today!

What inspired a collaborative book about exhibitionism and voyeurism?  Was it one of you that sparked the idea (so I know who exactly to thank from the very start, as well as your wonderful selves)?
Cassandra: Well, I had written Back to Nature, which, funny enough, was titled Public Displays of Eroticism, a while ago. I like to write shorts in between longer stuff. Michele Jensen from Sybarite Seductions read it and mentioned it would be cool if we made it into an anthology. I contacted Jami and Cristal, both of whom are great writers, and asked them if they wanted in.
Jami: Cassandra had already written the first book and asked if we wanted to be in the anthology with her. Originally, we were going to write unrelated stories with public sex. One of us came up with the idea to have them be in the same park at the same time.
Cristal: This is my first anthology and I must say I loved the experience. It was great. As we emailed back and forth the idea seemed to flesh out on its own. I read Cassandra’s story so we knew where it started and then ran with our own versions, intertwining them.

How did the writing work?  All the stories stem from one and in many cases interweave.  Was the consistency of events and all the details difficult to maintain?
Cassandra: We all wrote the stories independently but knew we all wanted to refer to the events in Back to Nature in our stories. Then our wonderful editors, Michele and also Lori, worked their magic to make sure the stories all came together seamlessly.
Jami: Mostly we based the other stories off of the first one, which made it easier. We also agreed on the setting and what types of things were in this park.
Cristal: I think I jumped the gun and answered this question above :) After I mulled it over for a little while I came up with the idea for mine – which I won’t spoil here – but many have said they really enjoyed it and loved the ending. It was loads of fun.

Do you all have any other similar projects in the near future?  If so, I will personally go line up for it!
Cassandra: Cristal and I, along with my mom, who is also an author, will be doing an anthology tentatively titled Sexy Sports Shorts. I think that’ll come out in November 2012. My story is about a Scottish tennis instructor and his new student.
Jami:  I’m working on another anthology for Sybarite called The Game Plan. These stories revolve around sports heroes and aren’t connected. In the future, I would love to do another anthology with Cristal and Cassandra.
Cristal: Sexy Sport Shorts Anthology was actually my idea and I hope it lives up to Public Displays of Eroticism, which was Cassandra’s baby. I’ve submitted my short story for the anthology. The working title is Sweet Spot and I’m nervous to hear what the editor thinks about it. It’s about a golf pro that gets a hole in one :)  Let’s leave it at that. Oh, and golf CAN be sexy. I have other projects in the works and my fourth release with Ellora’s Cave is due out 08/31.

Cassandra, how did you come up with the first trouble making couple (not that I’m complaining *grin*)?
Cassandra: I love writing BDSM stories. And we have a nature preserve near my house that has a lake with those little overlooks. I thought about how interesting it would be to “get busy” on one of them, and Back to Nature was born!

Do all your stories tend toward some level of BDSM or something just out of the norm?
Cassandra: All of mine? No, not really all BDSM, but I do love me a sexy Alpha male!
Cristal: Three of mine do. Switch Me UP, Being Ariana and Being Bound touch on BDSM and femdom. I’d like to delve a little deeper into it in future stories.

What was your favorite part about writing your two stories for this anthology?
Cassandra: Well, as I said, I wrote Back to Nature a while ago, so it kind of felt like I was more a part of the anthology since I wrote a new story for it as well. Plus, I love the way that one starts. I won’t spoil it, but the opening cracks me up. ;-)

Jami, your two stories are the closest related, as both couple know each other and begin at the same point.  What inspired you to write about two playboys who change their tune for two special women?
Jami: I love to write about sports romance heroes because I love sports so it was a no-brainer to pick a couple hot football players. I also liked the idea that they met each year, same place, same time, and spent a night together.

How do you balance such a high level of emotional conflict and heat?
Jami: That’s part of my writing process. I do all the physical stuff in the first draft. Then I go back through twice more and add the emotional, including the thoughts and feelings of the characters. I think the most effective sex scenes focus on how the characters are feeling, not on part A goes in part B.

Which of your stories was the most fun for you to write?
Jami: Actually, I loved them both because the heroines were so different. If I had to choose, I’d pick Jaid’s story, In the Open. Jaid is a different kind of heroine than I normally write. She’s older, experienced, a successful attorney, and she has the hots for a younger man. Alex is a young football player on the verge of being a starter. They’re both daring and adventurous when it comes to sex. I love how Alex shows Jaid what she means to him.

Cristal, your story had a certain level of humor that matched the emotion and heat.  Part of that was due to the connection to the couple that Cassandra introduced that got the whole park in a frenzy.  What made you tie the two so close?  Especially at the end (loved that btw)!
Cristal: LOL – me? Humour? (Cassandra ed note: Cristal is Canadian so she spells things funny) I didn’t realize it was in there. I’m flattered you saw it and always wished I could write funny :)  Well, I’m a pantser and never really know where things are going it was fun too. The end seemed to pop into my mind and I think it was a nice little shock. I adore surprises and trying to keep the reader guessing.

Do your other works have that same dynamic of equal levels of heat, humor, and love?
Cristal: Love? Always love – except for Switch Me Up which is more of a one night stand. Heat?  I think so.  Hope so! I like to write hot and try for as much realism and feeling as I can dish up. Humor, I’m not so sure because I’ve never looked at it from that perspective. I’d love to be able to weave humour in my writing. You seeing it in there has really made my day.

What was the most memorable part of your involvement in this anthology?
Cristal: Working with Cassandra and Jami and meeting Michele and Lori. It was really treat to work with everyone. The edits were in depth and I learned a lot, which I’m appreciative for. I think our blending was perfect and it really showed in the stories. I look forward to working with everyone again.
