Midnight Heat

16104796
She was the only woman ever to rock his world. But this time he'll have to prove he's offering more than just Midnight Heat. The unconscious man wheeled into Dr. Rebecca Dahlman’s ER is sexy—devilishly sexy—and injured.  This isn’t just any patient in need of medical help. He is the only man she’s ever loved—the one who still haunts her dreams. Black Phoenix bassist Dominic Price made a mistake three years ago when he walked out on Rebecca.  A mistake he plans to rectify.  But first he has to convince her to open her heart to him again. One touch of his calloused hands reignites their passion.  Can they rekindle their trust as easily, or will her fears cause her to lose him again…this time to a man bent on revenge?

Character Interview:

Tell us a little bit about you.
My name is Dominic Price, bassist for the rock band Black Phoenix. Perhaps you’ve heard of us. About ten years ago we topped the Billboard charts—a multi-platinum band whose last album was the most successful of its century. Until the day our drummer overdosed, and my best mate and lead singer, Noah Clark, fell apart, taking down the band with him. I live in London, England, but am currently in California recording our first album after a ten year hiatus. I don’t care much for California—too many memories I just can’t escape.
What did you think the first time you saw your heroine, Rebecca?
The first time I saw Rebecca was three years ago and I was completely gobsmacked. Her hair is like fire and all I could think about is what it would look like draped across my skin. I had to have her, and did—in the back seat of her car. I had a kink in my ass for a week after that first night.
What did you think the first time you saw her again, three years later?
A car accident brought me back to her. The odds that I would end up in her hospital had to be astronomical. Then I opened my eyes and there she was—the only woman ever to rock my world. All I could think about was that I could never have her. I’d hurt her too badly to ever have the hope of making up for past mistakes.
What do you like most about Rebecca?
Her laugh. Becca laughs with her whole body—no holding back. Her face lights up, her eyes soften and she loses her too-focused, always-in-control demeanor. I will do anything to make Becca laugh, it’s that incredible.
If you could change one thing about her, what would it be?

Whatever the power she possesses that makes me so very vulnerable to her. I lose control when she touches me. It’s bloody embarrassing.

What is your biggest fear?

Wow, you go straight for the jugular don’t you? *sigh* That one day she will look at me and wonder what she’s gotten herself into. She could do so much better than me. She’s a card-carrying member of MENSA. I’m just a long-haired, ear-ringed, uneducated musician who came from trash and only excels at two things; playing the bass and pleasing a woman.

EXCERPT:

Dominic’s level of pain could be gauged by the way he held himself, and his careful indrawn breaths. The doctor in her wanted to reach out and comfort. The woman in her wanted to reach out for a completely different reason. She’d never had such an irresistible urge to touch anyone the way she wanted to touch him. It had been there right from the beginning, their first meeting, and was still just as strong now.
She fisted her hands to keep from acting on the impulse.
“Can I come in?”
Definitely not. Even injured and surly, he still emanated so damn much testosterone he made her teeth sweat. Her heart did a little flutter whether she wanted it to or not. “That’s not a good idea.”
“Have dinner with me.” There was the arrogance that had been missing a few moments before. His tone wasn’t commanding, but left no doubt in her mind that for him there was only one answer.
Too bad she couldn’t give it. “I already ate.”
“Tomorrow?”
“No.”
His brow furrowed. “Why the bleedin’ hell not? Are you involved with someone?”
“I’m not seeing anyone, no.”
At her admission, he stepped closer, invading her space. Heat emanated off him, and although he did not touch her, she felt surrounded by him. “Take a drive with me?”
The low, soft timbre of his voice thrilled her, washed over her skin like a caress, and she fought a tremor. The heat of his body warmed her through her clothes. Wanting to step closer, to press against him and inhale his all too familiar scent, Rebecca stepped away. Physically distancing herself from him. She only wished emotional distance was as easily achieved. “Drive where?”
“Does it matter?”
Not really, since there was no way on earth she was getting in a car with him tonight. Not when just the sight of him had her hormones standing at attention, one whiff of him, her body thrumming. Not after spending the entire day thinking about him.
Remembering.
Aching.
Did he still hurt over the loss of what could have been? Did he still dream of her, of them? Had he ever?
Dominic blew out a breath and shook his head, his frustration clear. “It’s just a damn drive, Becca.”
It was so much more. Acceptance would be the first crack in the barrier she’d built around her heart after he’d walked out. With only the smallest encouragement, he would stop by on a regular basis, invite her to spend time with him. Which would, even if she kept her wits about her and turned him down, lead to more heartache. Just seeing him again made her yearn. Spending time with him was not an option.
She didn’t know why he was back in California. The why didn’t matter. What mattered was that he would be gone again soon. Dominic Price wasn’t the type to hang around. And she wasn’t stupid enough to believe she could change him.

Sarah Grimm is a wife and mother of two—five if you count her much-loved dogs. She resides in beautiful West Michigan, near the white sandy beaches of Lake Michigan.

The youngest of four, Sarah can’t remember a time when she wasn’t writing. In fact, her siblings believe she began writing in utero to pass the time. As a child, Sarah wrote constantly, littering the house with bulging spiral notebooks and ignoring the ribbing of her mother and sister who routinely said romances? in a somewhat scornful tone. Little did they know, Sarah would go on to win a 2011 Readers Favorite Award for her romantic suspense, Not Without Risk, and her interracial contemporary romance, After Midnight would both final in the 2012 Gayle Wilson Award of Excellence, as well as win the 2012 Romance Through the Ages Award.

Vivacious and imaginative, Sarah spends much of her day managing the family marine repair business while listening in on the lives of her characters. In the evening, she writes it all down, weaving the story as she goes. She says this method works well for her, except on the days when her hero and heroine insist on a steamy love scene while she’s answering the telephone or doing the taxes!

When asked what he thinks of her choice of genres, Sarah’s husband grins wickedly and answers, “It makes for interesting evenings.” Hmmm.

Character Interview with Tait and Kellan From Wet For Her Warriors and Cover Reveal

Hi there, everyone! Angel Payne here, so happy to be back with my friends at My Secret Romance! I’m celebrating the release of the newest book in my W.I.L.D. Boys of Special Forces Series, WET FOR HER WARRIORS. As you might be able to tell, this story features not one but TWO gorgeous Special Forces soldiers as its heroes—and they are both jealous that Garrett, Zeke, and Ethan had their “moment in the sun” the last time I was here!

So needless to say, I have a couple of “interview stowaways” with me today. With no further ado, I’d like you to meet—

TAIT BOMMER: *struts in and scowls at Angel* Who you calling a “stowaway”, woman?

KELLAN RUSH: *Comes in after him, gray eyes narrowed, and punches his friend* Hey, asshat. Be nice to the creator.

TAIT: *mumbles* Sorry, Angel. *Beams a beautiful, lopsided smile, exposing his adorable crooked canine tooth* I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night. Somebody *glares at Kell* kept me up with his damn snoring.

KELLAN: *snickers* Somebody kept you “up” last night, all right—and it wasn’t me.

TAIT: *grins wider* Can I help it if Lani likes certain--errrmmm—activities at night, in the rain?

KELLAN: You’re forgetting that I received firsthand knowledge of that fact, right in the course of Angel’s book. *Looks over at Angel* Have I remembered to thank you for that scene sometime within the last hour?

ANGEL: *forgetting to breathe as Kellan takes her hand and kisses it* I think you have, Sergeant Rush; however it never gets too old. Please…go on…you were saying?

TAIT: Kiss-ass.

ANGEL: Okay, boys. The readers are here to learn a little more about you both! Why don’t you share your favorite part about being in WET FOR HER WARRIORS, as well as the first thing you noticed about the mutual love of your lives, the beautiful Hokulani Kail?

KELLAN: I’m not sure Tait “noticed” anything significant at first. He was three sheets to the damn wind when Lani nailed our asses into the sand on that beach.

TAIT: *snorts* Yeah, at least I have the Grey Goose to blame for the fact that a woman dropped my ass like a sack of potatoes. What’s your excuse, Slash-arific?

KELLAN: *Looks at the readers* He calls me that because my radio call-sign for the team is “Slash.” Pretty cool call-sign, yeah?

TAIT: Nice way to dodge the question.

KELLAN: Not dodging. I have a perfectly good excuse for why Lani was able to flip me over like that. I was bowled over by her beauty. And continue to be.

TAIT: Normally, I’d call you on that shit, but you happen to be right. She’s pretty stunning. *Smiles* And she’s all ours.

ANGEL: But she wasn’t always, right? I put you three through quite a journey in this story, and you were all good sports about it.

KELLAN: Well, the setting didn’t suck, Angel. Falling in love on Kaua’i was pretty damn cool.

ANGEL: *Smiles now, too* You still haven’t answered my question about your favorite part of the adventure.

KELLAN: Definitely the first time that T-Bomb and I were able to—ummm—give our goddess a double treat of passion. It was on the couch in Franzen’s living room…

TAIT: But don’t tell him that! Franz can be as vindictive as one of Lani’s pissed-off gods when he wants to be.

ANGEL: *giggling* I think, after this, he might figure it out, anyway.

TAIT: Shit.

KELLAN: Shit.

ANGEL: And Tait? What about you? What part of the book’s adventure did you like the best?

TAIT: *Golden eyes getting misty* That would have to be when we went to the Hindu Monastery, and Lani told us about the voice that spoke to her there.

KELLAN: *putting a reassuring hand on his buddy’s shoulder* That was pretty damn cool.

ANGEL: Well, I think both of you are pretty damn cool, too. I’m really happy that your story is out for the world to see. *Smiles at both the guys* Thank you for joining me. And for the record, you don’t have to sneak into the car next time to do it. Just ask!

TAIT: But it was so much fun to listen to you singing along to the new Katy Perry song!

ANGEL: *with a smoldering glare* Tell anyone else about that and there’s no Chinese takeout for you tonight, Tait Bommer.

KELLAN: *devilish grin* And we all know what comes after Chinese takeout…

ANGEL: Okay, quiet, both of you, and let the readers get to drooling over you in the book, instead!

Thanks for putting up with this pair for a few minutes! As you can tell, they’re a lot of fun to hang out with—and I sure hope you enjoy their adventures in WET FOR HER WARRIORS.

As an extra-added THANK YOU for stopping by, I’m very excited to be presenting the cover for W.I.L.D. Boys #6, HOT FOR HIS HOSTAGE, due out this Summer!!

It’s the layover she’ll never forget.

Stuck in an airport bar with a choice between three drunk roommates or one dark and delicious stranger, Zoe Chestain decides to live dangerously for once, and succumbs to a night of Shay Bommer’s dominant passion. But her cloud of sensual bliss is blown apart the next day, when the Vegas dancer and her friends are taken hostage by the hijackers of their flight home. Zoe’s horror deepens when her kidnapper reveals himself. Shay.

It’s the mission he’ll never give up.

Shay Bommer is one of the Army’s best, a Special Forces soldier who followed in the footsteps of his brother knowing infiltration with the enemy would sometimes be necessary. But this operation, deep under cover with one of the CIA’s most sought-after criminals, has cost him more than the trust of the most breathtaking submissive he’s ever had in his arms. He’s given up the camaraderie of his unit, the protection of his country, and even the esteem of his brother  in the quest to rescue one priceless treasure. His mother.

Can they turn “never” into forever?

Zoe’s danced to some crazy songs in her time, but no wild choreography has prepared her for the adventure of life with Shay—or the return to his bed that means surrendering more than just her body. As they run from the bad guys, the good guys, and everyone in between, she learns about the man behind all his masks, and the Dominant for whom she’s always longed.

When Shay honors his word and unlocks her bonds for good, Zoe must face the truth—that her heart will always be Shay’s willing captive. But staying with him means dying with him. The heat is on. Can Shay and Zoe’s love survive the flames?
