Sophie Garner answered yes in front of the entire world when Josh popped the question and the diamond ring dangled from his title belt, but is she really ready to take the plunge? She’s been a single mother for almost three years, and she’s set in her ways, not used to sharing her life with anyone but her daughter, Charlie. Plus, she doesn’t know that she can ever escape the shadow of a past that still haunts her.
Sophie and Charlie are everything Josh wants in the world – but the heartthrob bachelor is learning that commitment and fatherhood are both tougher than training for the title fight! And even though he’d give his life for either of his girls, he’s not so sure he’s got what it takes to be a husband and daddy.
Will Josh win the roughest fight of his life, or will he go down for the count?
I am sitting here, wondering what I should say about Dare You Forever. I am in a sense torn. I absolutely loved Dare, when we first met Josh and Sophie. I love how Josh was not only the MMA champion
but also Sophie’s. If you remember,
Sophie was running from her ex-husband who threatened both her and her daughter
more than once. He broke Sophie down and
Josh worked hard to not only earn Sophie’s trust and heart but to put her back
together once again.
In Dare You Forever,
they are preparing for their wedding.
Now here is where I am having problems.
I love Josh just as much if not more than I did in Dare; Sophie though, for me she took what could have been a 5 star
book and lowered it to the 3.5 stars that I have rated it. Anyone who has ever been in an abusive
relationship or marriage knows that you will hold scars that may not be visible
but are deep inside of you; I unfortunately have some of these scars myself and
my husband has had his work cut out with me over the years if something
triggers that fear or makes me remember a painful memory. Like Josh, my husband would never hurt me and
has proven that over and over again, but unlike Sophie I haven’t allowed the
painful actions of my ex to almost destroy my relationship with my
husband. Sophie is so close to just
running away again, she drove me insane, I wanted to shake her and scream in
her face “OPEN YOUR EYES! JOSH WILL NEVER HURT YOU OR CHARLIE!” She wouldn’t
talk to Josh, she wouldn’t talk to a therapist, she let that fester inside her
until Josh had to do something to prove he was different, when in reality he
proved that from the very start.
Now don’t get me wrong, just because I am not screaming my
praises for Dare You Forever it does
not mean that I disliked it, because that isn’t it. I did like it, but I almost wish that instead
of a novella that in a sense tainted my memories of the relationship of Josh
and Sophie, we could have read about it in one of the other books as a side
storyline. This author knows how to make
you feel the emotions of the characters, you feel invested so much that you
want them to be happy and get upset if something possibly could ruin that. I am looking forward to the next book in this
series, which I believe will be out later this year.
